Field Support (Roguish Archetype)

Sometimes your party run short of healing, sometimes it lacks a player that is prone to the needs of a decent cleric in your ranks. Or, eventually, your healing source has simply been knocked out of combat in the early rounds of a battle. If being a Rogue does'nt make You a selfish one by default, this archetype is what You're looking for: the D&D 5th edition fantasy version of the Field Support Medic in modern warfare.

Archetype Features

The following table summarize the features offered to the character who adopt this archetype upon reaching 3rd level.

Field Support
Level Features
3rd On Your Side, Feel the Heat
9th Elusive Abusive
13th Adrenaline Surge
17th Quicksilver

On your side (Bonus Action)

As a bonus action, You get the option to choose from the following:

  • Use a healer's kit
  • Get one up from prone
  • Do the Help action.

Notice: This feature adds additional flavour and options to the standard Cunning Action available to every Rogue upon reaching 2nd level.

Feel the Heat (Reaction)

As a reaction, You can detect who is in the worst danger in the immediate future.

With a DC 10 Wisdom (Perception) check, You can detect the dangers to those You can see. As part of your reaction, You can move half your speed towards the one in the most danger.

With a DC 10 Dex (Acrobatics) check, this move does not provoke opportunity attacks. If failed, You fall prone next to your starting position and opportunity attacks have advantage.

Elusive Abusive (Action)

Upon reaching 9th level, as an action, You can Disengage and attack once, if You move no more than half your speed.

You can make a single ranged attack against the target You were in reach of before moving. If this attack hits, the target has disadvantage on its next attack roll.

Adrenaline Surge (Action)

Upon reaching 13th level, as an action, You can pick up a prone friendly creature, regardless of weight, and carry it away, using any of your available movement options.

Combining this action with your normal move (as per a Dash action), can deliver your carried companion well far away from the combat area.

At the end of your turn, You must drop the carried creature in any space of your choice adjacent to your final position.

Quicksilver (Action)

Upon reaching 17th level, as an action, You can stop the flow of time and take 3 turns, as per Time Stop spell (PHB 283).

Unlike the spell, this effect ends when You are more than 3 times your speed away from an ally. Also unlike the spell, You can affect other friendly creatures during each turn, and this does not end this effect.

Using this ability gives You a level of exhaustion. You can use this feature again after a short rest. Cumulative usages of this feature without having a long rest, increment by 1 your exaustion level.

About the Author

I'm playing D&D since 1985. I've authored many campaigns and adventures, mainly for the italian community events in late 90's. Since then I dedicated all my spare time to expand the universe of D&D for my Homebrew Campaigns, primarily in the 3.x/PF and 5th edition systems. I skipped the 4th edition as a DM because I already played WoW for 10 years and I really did'nt felt the need of another offline MMORPG...!
