Physical
"People think I'm dead. Not that I faked my death, more that I look like a corpse. Well, I am a corpse, but nobody knows that. It's part of my little deal with the devil, so to speak.
"Some people have a hot temper. Normally, I'd say I'm fairly calm in tense situations but, since I've died some terrific things have started to happen. Like when I can't control my new powers and people find themselves exploding. That's my kind of temper. You can tell when it's starting when shadowy feathers start to crawl over me bit by bit. People think it's spooky but I think it adds to my charm."
Social
"Attachment isn't something that people feel with others where I come from. In the Capital, everyone is a cutthroat. So that means anyone you meet, anyone you care about, could die tomorrow. So I just stopped caring.
"I find myself having trouble with lying. No, honestly, it's the truth. It's not that enjoy being honest, it's just that I can come up with terrible lies. Not like it's done me much good to lie anyway, what with my stunning good looks."
Secret
"As I already wrote, I'm a corpse. I don't know why I'm a corpse, but I'm a corpse. I remember everything, more or less, but that's not the problem. The problem is I don't know why I died, how I died, where I died or who did it. I sure as hell don't know how I'm writing any of this if I died, either. I have some ideas but I'm no investigator."

Ambitious Self She thinks about the big picture. She's not often willing to stomp over other people to reach her ambitions, Evyrless is smart enough to know that she needs friends to get what she wants. However, she doesn't always have the cunning to reach these goals.

Questionnaire

I had questions, now I have answers.

1) Why do you adventure? If you weren't an adventurer, what would you do?

"I suppose now I adventure to investigate my own murder. It's not like I can go back to my job, everyone thinks I'm dead! If you're wondering about before my little 'accident' then I suppose it was for the money. So I can be better than everyone else at what I do. For the shits and giggles. As for what would happen if I quit, well, I don't think I would. I've had years of chances to lead a normal life and I passed them all by without looking back."

2) Do you have any nicknames? Did you have any while growing up? Why were you given these nicknames?

"Now why does that matter? Any of those names would be gone anyway. Might as well call me 'maggotbrain' at this point. Though, I do suppose there was one, if you count my alias. People called me the Whistling Rat at my old job because I'd sneak into people's houses and give a whistle to signal when I escaped. It's not very clever, but it beats telling them my real name."

3) What inspires your choice of clothing?

"Sneaking. Not being naked. Looking damn good while doing it. The simple things."

4) Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

"The Great Capital City of Qarn, where you go get rich, get enemies and get your throat slit. I'm more keen on the getting rich part, but I suppose I got the latter. It's a big place that holds host to the world's longest brawl, figuratively speaking. Everyone here is in it for the competition since it's where all the power is. Big church, big market, big castle, it's the trifecta of power. What sense would it make if all three of them weren't at each other's throats?"

5) Who were your parents - do you even know? Are they still alive? If not, what became of them? If so, do you get along with them? Are you yourself a parent? Have you ever been? Are you married?

"I'm the youngest of three daughters and I was raised in great, big house. Both parents are still around. My dad's a skinny little Lord's son with half the spine for his position. He was married off to my mother, a business baroness of sorts, as a political move for his family. He was never intimidating, but she surely was. She's pulled more strings in this city than hundreds of noblemen, clergymen and businessmen could ever dream of. With all the work she gets done around here, I wonder if I haven't worked for her without knowing about it."

6) What training do you have? Were you an apprentice? A student? Self-taught? When and how did you first learn you could do what you do?

"As far as the freaky kind of magic I can use, I have no clue what I'm doing. As far as my trade, I learned from the best. I've always been a sneaky girl, my parents could never keep my locked up in my room for long, but I didn't know a thing about getting in to houses until I met Ashre.

"Ashre was a gutter rat from Ularn who fled to the Capital to make it big, like anyone else. He was so good at stealing that he snuck into the Queen's bedchamber and stole her knickers without anyone noticing. A talent like that would only wind up in three places: a jail cell, a grave, or the thieves' guild. He joined the latter, so I joined the latter. And everything was peachy."

7) What other jobs have you had?

"I used to be a burglar for hire. Not necessarily to steal shiny things like a thug, rather people wanted a certain edge over other people. Sometimes it meant stealing valuables, stealing documents, stealing people. I never asked why, I only asked how much. Now I find myself asking a lot of 'why's and 'who's. I don't imagine my old bosses would like to hear about that."

8) What are the important moments of your life?

"Meeting Ashre. Joining the Guild. Laying with a man. Did that once. Laying with a woman. Did that a lot. Leaving the Guild to go freelance with my own crew. Stealing the Queen's knickers like Ashre. Stealing the Archbishop's stupid hat. Getting killed. Nothing unusual."

9) Do you have any likes? Dislikes? Hobbies? Goals? Especially goals. Have they changed over the years?

"What's there to ask? I like stealing, I like money, I like being damn good, I like looking damn good and I don't like dying. Though I suppose I do like little animals. Not the cute ones, the sneaky ones. Rats, crows, alley cats. They remind me of me, and I like me. My off time used to be hitting up the town with my crew but I lost contact with them when I died. Now I spend that time fiddling with the purple stuff that comes out of my fingers when I shout nasty curses at people."

10) Who/what is your most valued person? Possession? Concept? Have they changed over the years?

"Person: Ashre. Possession: The Queen's knickers. Concept: Success."

11) Why is that your ideal?

"Because I owe everything to that man."

12) Is there a line you won't cross, no matter what?

"I don't steal from poor people. I don't go hooding and steal for them, but I'll never steal from them."

13) What is your greatest fear? What would make you happiest?

"To not be the very best that I can be. To die covered in all of the riches of the entire Capital with a smug smile on my face."

14) What is your stance on the new technologies of clockwork and firearms?

"More valuables to steal, more challenge involved in stealing those valuables."

Physical
You know? I have never really been that big for my age, people picked on my dick (FINE, THE GM MAY HAVE EDITED THIS FOR HUMOR- "people picked on me, dicks"). So maybe I am a little skinny, underfed, and maybe a little twitchy. You would be too if you had to eat dusty old fruit all the time! Anyway, short hair is better than long, can’t get grabbed like that. I can’t grow a beard either. I mean, i WOULD, but, I guess I didn’t get that from my da. I always felt like a wizard should have a HUGE beard. I tried out the whole robes thing, but, yuck. I’ll just stick to some pants, boots, and a shirt, thanks.
Social
Honesty is stupid. I mean, oh no! This kid was a street kid and didn’t have a ma or da, blah blah blah. No, I’m a powerful wizard from a long line of wizards, sent here by Elorgoreth the God of Knowing Everything to save the world! Well, I mean, have you ever gotten away with a really good lie? It’s awesome! I like talking to people, they all have so many great stories to take!
Secret
So, okay, I didn’t ACTUALLY get taught in a school full of mages and I’m not actually from a line of wizards. I kinda stole pretty much all the stuff I have now. Oh man, actually now that I think about it, this staff is worth a lot of gold. Uh-oh, i hope no one misses it.

Questionnaire

I had questions, now I have answers

1) Why do you adventure? If you weren't an adventurer, what would you do? Is this your first adventure? What do you think of the non-adventuring life of most people?

"Why do I adventure? That’s kind of a stupid question, isn’t it? I mean, have you seen the places I lived? It’s terrible. Plus! You can’t become a legend if you don’t go out and do some legendary things!

"I might be new to this whole adventuring business but I think I got a knack for it. Everyone not doing what I am doing is jealous they aren’t. No one tells stories about that one baker from that one place."

2) Do you have any nicknames? Did you have any while growing up? Why were you given these nicknames?

"Oh yeah! People love to give kids like me nicknames. They are all mean and nasty though. I don’t want any of those to pop up, don’t need people knowing what bullies and shopkeepers used to yell at me. Let’s stick with Jazo the Magnificent."

3) What inspires your choice of clothing?

"Uhhhh, clothes are to keep you warm, dry, and safe. I don’t really know what you mean."

4) Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? (keep in mind, you're making up places for this)

"I grew up in the outer city of Ularn! Nice enough place I guess, if you like smoke, soot, and people trying to steal from you. At least there were lots of little nooks to sleep in.You know, you don’t really know what it is like to camp out until you are huddled under an awning in a thunderstorm."

5) Who were your parents - do you even know? Are they still alive? If not, what became of them? If so, do you get along with them? Are you yourself a parent? Have you ever been? Are you married?

"I don’t know who my da was, could be you for all I know and care. My ma was a whore named Gillie. I mean, that probably wasn’t her real name, but, I was born a boy so the brothel didn’t have much use for me really. Plus, I was never good at working around the place and cleaning up. There was a lot of sticky stuff all over the floor, gross.

"I don’t have any kids, least, I don’t think so. I mean, I did have this one girl I did stuff with but we did it when it was raining, so, no babies."

6) What training do you have? Were you an apprentice? A student? Self-taught? When and how did you first learn you could do what you do?

"Hahah! No one trains street kids! I mean, I did spend some time in a factory because I could fit in the little spots and unjam the gears. I didn’t stay there long. One of the other kids got crushed when he fixed something. No thanks. Jazo would like to stay uncrushed.

"I did learn how to find food and places to sleep in the city though. That was what life was all about! Plus, you figure out quick who you can steal from and who you can’t pretty quick."

7) What other jobs have you had?

Factory kid, street kid, thief kid. Now, now I am WIZARD KID!

8) What are the important moments of your life?

"I don’t really like talking about what happened to me when I was younger. That kind of is the past that I don’t tell people. There was hard times and good times, but, now I have a new past. Ever since I found that back way into the magical tower place I am Jazo The Magnificent! I got a bunch of books and the first one I lucked into was all about how to know things you shouldn't know, that made the rest really easy. Haha! Stupid mages, spend all their time studying when they could just know stuff."

9) Do you have any likes? Dislikes? Hobbies? Goals? Especially goals. Have they changed over the years?

"I like lots of stuff! Beer, beer is great! It doesn’t taste very good but once you have some it isn’t so bad. Then you get to feel all floaty and fun, everyone should feel like that all the time. I also really like plants. I didn’t get to see them much until I started to look in the magic books and sneak around the inner city. There are so many different kinds of plants! It’s crazy.

"I really like flying. Like, really like it. You should try it, I’ll fly you with me! I have lots of dislikes too. I guess I don’t like most of the stuff people don’t like. I don’t like rotten food, mean people, getting hurt, rats, snakes, and smoke. Being away from Ularn has made me realize just how bad the air was there.

"My goal is simple. I wanna make everyone know who I am, well, who I am now! Jazo The Magnificent will be a legendary figure. They tell stories about all kinds of heroes and stuff, I wanna be one! There is also so much more magic out there to learn. I mean, the number of books in the tower alone was crazy."

10) Who/what is your most valued person? Possession? Concept? Have they changed over the years?

"I have the books and the staff with me. That reminds me of what I did to change my whole life. If I can work to get this then more people can. More legends, more awesome! The books make sure I can keep learning and the staff I need to be a wizard. I mean, I can use magic without it, but, a wizard needs a staff."

11) Why is that your ideal?

"Isn’t that really everyone’s? I think most people want to have people sing their praises and tell stories about them, well, they are going to sing about me."

12) Is there a line you won't cross, no matter what? "

"I think pretty much everything has a reason when you look into it. Like, I was left on the street because I wouldn’t clean. I stole from my friends because I needed to eat. I don’t have to do things like that anymore though. Now I don’t want to steal from or hurt my friends anymore. They are awesome too and they are my companions. Every good legend needs supporting characters. I would be a really bad leader if I treated them like crap."

13) What is your greatest fear? What would make you happiest?

"I never want to lose my magic. I don’t know if that can happen but I am not planning on finding out. I was just a skinny kid, now I am amazing. I can’t go back to the way things were, never, never, never, never, never, never. If I ever heard a song about me I would pay the band to play it over and over again. I know I am not the most special guy around but I love it when you inspire people to make something about you. That’s awesome!"

14) What is your stance on the new technologies of clockwork and firearms?

"Are there people who don’t like them? I mean, they are all over Ularn. The factories and cannery, all over. Heck, even most of the gangsters had pistols and rifles. I mean, are there really people who don’t like them? Who are they? Have they even seen a cannery? Do they really think things are good without clockworks? Are they real?"

[GM Note: Firearms may seem common within Ularn (they're not, really), but elsewhere it's next to impossible to find them]

Questionnaire

I had questions, and now I have answers.

1) Why do you adventure? If you weren't an adventurer, what would you do? Is this your first adventure? What do you think of the non-adventuring life of most people?

Well... long story short, I kinda had to leave home in a hurry. I didn't really know where I was going, but I know I'll find my twin sister Mara again. I wish I didn't have to leave. The world is big and scary by yourself. Anyone who can stay home is blessed.

2) Do you have any nicknames? Did you have any while growing up? Why were you given these nicknames?

Not really. Liri is a short enough name that most nicknames end up being longer. I'll answer to just about whatever Mara calls me though.

3) What inspires your choice of clothing?

Don't you like it? I thought this was super cute. Mara and I got matching outfits! I had to work hard to convince her to buy hers when I got mine. She was in a Fiery mood that day.

4) Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

We were both born in the Chuci childrens' village. Most of us are born there. We grew up there together until puberty where we grew into our adult genders. From there, we moved to Iblis, which is a city-state populated by Chuci women.

5) Who were your parents - do you even know? Are they still alive? If not, what became of them? If so, do you get along with them? Are you yourself a parent? Have you ever been? Are you married?

Well... I dunno about parents. Chuci are kinda all raised together by the village. You should ask Mara; I think she was looking into it some. As for me, I've never had a real boyfriend, let along get married or have kids. Maybe one day!

6) What training do you have? Were you an apprentice? A student? Self-taught? When and how did you first learn you could do what you do?

A lot of Chuci are good with elemental magic from child-age. My sister and I both were naturals, able to control fire and air from really young ages. Along with most Chuci, we've had training in the temples. It's an awe-inspiring sensation, moving the energy through your body to affect everything else. My sister even has a pretty bracelet that helps her out!

7) What other jobs have you had?.

Hehe, we're not really old enough to have had much working experience! I guess we've helped out here and there running errands for various stores, but the whole village helps out. It's not really a job. But now we're going adventuring! Maybe we'll get some really neat stuff!

8) What are the important moments of your life?

Coming of age is something I'll never forget. It's... indescribable. I don't know as if I would try to describe it if I could. The whole experience from beginning to end is so personal. It makes you really feel in touch with the gods.

9) Do you have any likes? Dislikes? Hobbies? Goals? Especially goals. Have they changed over the years?

Oh there's so much I like to do! With air magic, you can shape the sounds you make to do so many interesting things with singing. I love art in all forms, although I'm not very good at it. I also like helping out my friends and family.

My biggest goal is to find a place where Mara and I can be free without having to worry about our village. It's a nice place, but there are a lot of really strict rules about certain things. I just want everyone to live peacefully,

10) Who/what is your most valued person? Possession? Concept? Have they changed over the years?

My most valued ideal? Well, asides from Mara, I would have to say my magic. I love being able to move energy around and let it flow. From the warmth of fire to the chill of ice, the strength of stone and the freedom of air... everything is beautifully harmonious. Really, the balance of nature would have to be my greatest ideal.

11) Why is that your ideal?

When nature is balanced, everything is peaceful. You hear birds happy, water giggling, air whispering. I love lying on the ground with nothing but nature around me. But when nature is unbalanced, it is one of the scariest things. Howling hurricanes, fierce firestorms, rolling mudslides, driving rain. If you make nature angry, you will never find peace.

12) Is there a line you won't cross, no matter what?

I will never harm my friends and family. They are everything important to me. Asides from that, I try my best to leave nature as I found it. Starting a forest fire might give you a tactical advantage today, but you lose so much tomorrow.

13) What is your greatest fear? What would make you happiest?

Losing Mara forever is my greatest fear. I don't know what I would do... I might just die. But if I could be with her forever, that would be perfect. I love my sister almost as much as air itself, even though she talks back more than the elements do.

14) What is your stance on the new technologies of clockwork and firearms?

As with many things, my stance on these new technologies really depends more on the ones using them. Clockwork can make lives so much easier. Or it can be used to create gruesome machines that have no respect for nature. The same with firearms. Gunpowder could be used for many positive and helpful things, but it seems most people care only about destruction.

1) Why do you adventure? If you weren't an adventurer, what would you do? Is this your first adventure? What do you think of the non-adventuring life of most people?

I've always been a wanderer. It's part of who I am. Adventure is part of my blood. I would never survive in a tiny house.

2) Do you have any nicknames? Did you have any while growing up? Why were you given these nicknames?

My friends call me Mal. My enemies scream in terror.

3) What inspires your choice of clothing?

I have studied the arts of fashion, and have impeccable sense in style when it comes to loincloths. Just like every goliath. What kind of question is this?

4) Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

I dunno. Never been too good with maps. Probably someplace with the letter B.

5) Who were your parents - do you even know? Are they still alive? If not, what became of them? If so, do you get along with them? Are you yourself a parent? Have you ever been? Are you married?

You don't know much about goliaths, do ya? The whole herd of us is family. But I ain't seen the herd in months.

6) What training do you have? Were you an apprentice? A student? Self-taught? When and how did you first learn you could do what you do?

Is learning to kill, rape, pillage, and steal with your good ol mommy and daddy "training"? Other than that, got tricked into runnin errands for a weaponsmith for a while. For free.

7) What other jobs have you had?.

Yo. Goliath here. I would like to apply fer a job. Maybe pettin kittens? Would you hire me? Yeah, thought as much.

8) What are the important moments of your life?

When I left. An' that's all ya need to know.

9) Do you have any likes? Dislikes? Hobbies? Goals? Especially goals. Have they changed over the years?

I protect the Cute things. Anything that threatens that will die. I sometimes paint... I painted my shield. As for goals... I unno... maybe open a flower shop.... Also, stars are really pretty.

10) Who/what is your most valued person? Possession? Concept? Have they changed over the years?

I have nothing. If you have nothing, no one can take it from you. But cuteness... the Cute is forever.

11) Why is that your ideal?

WHY IS IT NOT YOURS?!

12) Is there a line you won't cross, no matter what?

I will protect the Cute. Nothing shall harm the Cute.

13) What is your greatest fear? What would make you happiest?

I fear nothing! Except perhaps my family. They're pretty scary. But I can be scarier with enough cute behind me! Happiness is a pile of puppies.

14) What is your stance on the new technologies of clockwork and firearms?

Fiery arms sound kinda cool. Might hurt a bit though.

Background

-Born in family tent.

-Left to die on a hillside by birth parents, foster parents in a different herd raised him.

-At a young age, because of curiosity about religions, is indoctrinated into goliath faith. Goliath religions tend to glorify the vilest of brutalities from vicious murders to rape.

-At 11, served the weaponsmith of his herd because of a complicated (for a goliath) wager. Assisted her/him for 6 years. For free.

-At 13, survived a deadly encounter with a powerful monster.

-At 17, was kicked out of herd for attempting to save a young girl from a painful death. Met Wren soon after.

-At 19, picked up an interest in studying astronomy ("stars are really pretty")

Looks just like Liri, only cuter. Because she is obviously the cuter twin. Even if she has breath matching whatever spirit is possessing her. Frost breath is cute, okay?!
Mara's left ear flops over, a mirror image to Liri's right ear.
Social
Lets Liri call her little sister because she was born "later" and is smaller. Her twin needs a victory or two. (This applies to any situation in which she knows she's more successful, not just with Liri).
Mara never parts from Liri.

Questionnaire

I had questions, and now I have answers.

1) Why do you adventure? If you weren't an adventurer, what would you do? Is this your first adventure? What do you think of the non-adventuring life of most people?

"Fun? I guess. I've been adventuring with my twin practically my whole life. Not counting when I was a kid, of course. Once I reached the stage of my life where I became a woman. Not like the human term. We don't bleed, we just don't have bits down there before our equivalent of puberty."

2) Do you have any nicknames? Did you have any while growing up? Why were you given these nicknames?

"Other than "Little Sister" from Liri, I've got nothing. Mara's easy. Most of our generation's names are. Something about our history. I mean, there's a reason Goliaths talk the way they do. I'm honestly a little surprised we don't have the most complicated naming ever. So why bother with nicknames?

"Do other people do that? 'Hi, I'm Bob, but my friends call me Cu Chulainn.' Yeah. I don't see the point either."

3) What inspires your choice of clothing?

"My people dress like this. Chu got a problem with that, esse?"

4) Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

"Liri and I were raised in the lady-city-state of Iblis. It's the swampy portion of our people's earthquake-ridden lands, so thankfully it's pretty safe. Probably explains its size. I'll never understand our mountain tribes. As for where we were born, it was the children's village. It doesn't have a formal name, it's just where kids are born and raised until we get to that age."

5) Who were your parents - do you even know? Are they still alive? If not, what became of them? If so, do you get along with them? Are you yourself a parent? Have you ever been? Are you married?

"Parents...what a luxury. We were raised communally, so I guess we have a lot of parents. As for who did the act, so to speak, we are...not entirely sure. I have a general idea. Would be a nice thing to know. Not a passion of mine. They're no more my parents than anyone else.

"I can see myself as a parent one day, but that day is not today. Nor have I really tried too hard. I've got my twin to worry about."

6) What training do you have? Were you an apprentice? A student? Self-taught? When and how did you first learn you could do what you do?

"The same kind as Liri and pretty much every other Chuci. Temples are our schools, teaching us to attune with our own personal collection of spirits. It's how our goddess likes to handle us, so it's how we do it. They do a better job than those stupid human ones that live in the sky and do nothing all day.

"Plus, I have the...opportunity to use a spirit-binding bracelet, a task reserved for those who favor more martial pursuits. Can't take the damn thing off, but at least I don't have to deal with decision-making as much. My spirits just cooperate and tell me how to live my life on any particular day. Easy peasy.

"Okay, so it's not only for martial pursuits. Some days, it just makes me perky. There are a lot of things today is not, like Liri's and my birthday, and today is not one of those perky days. Unless you're reading this when it is."

7) What other jobs have you had?

"We don't have much experience in the way of jobs. We all just kind of help out in our villages. Our people know how to make things work, and the smartest of us lead and deal with the boring stuff. We just adventure. Because reasons."

8) What are the important moments of your life?

"Other than our little send-off ceremony from the children's village, our life has been fairly uneventful. I mean, the process of becoming a woman is of itself the most personal thing ever, and it is almost fun, and it's not even just the great sensations we never felt before, nor is it just the connection to our spirits. It's...indescribable. There's no way to know what it's like unless your core spirit is moved into the body of one of our newborns."

9) Do you have any likes? Dislikes? Hobbies? Goals? Especially goals. Have they changed over the years?

"I like a lot of things. Dislike a lot of things. Don't have many hobbies. Currently, my only goal is to find wherever Liri's gone off to, maybe get this bracelet off...though I actually kind of enjoy the bracelet, so that's a much, much lower priority. Plus, it makes quiet chiming noises if you listen hard enough!"

10) Who/what is your most valued person? Possession? Concept? Have they changed over the years?

"Liri is more important to me than anything else in the world, and no possession is as valued. As a concept, I have to say I value love of all kinds, and maybe, one day, I'll have the love of someone who isn't...Liri. Sure, that's changed. Off and on. I wanted to be an adult. I became an adult. I don't always value Liri as much as I know I should. I'm working on that. But sometimes, it's not me deciding that, so it's not like I have any reason to take the blame for it."

11) Why is that your ideal?

"Mister, are you stupid? I think you probably are. Seriously. Or you're a terrible person. Either way, could you just stop asking questions?"

12) Is there a line you won't cross, no matter what?

"No. Especially if Liri is involved. See what I did there? Still answering. Because this is a more reasonable question."

13) What is your greatest fear? What would make you happiest?

"The obvious: something happening to my twin. Same as any other twin's greatest fear. But the less obvious? Also related to my twin. That Liri's secret is found out and made public among our city-state, or among our entire country.

"What would make me happiest? Not sure I know. Any number of things could make me happy for a while. Don't think I have anything I work toward."

14) What is your stance on the new technologies of clockwork and firearms?

"They're...things. Okayish. Useful, I guess? Not really sure they're necessary most of the time. They save a lot of people a lot of work, but also cause just as many problems as they fix. Maybe more. But eh, it's the same with everything else. Silly humans and gnomes and whoever else makes them. Especially gnomes. Seriously, what's up with those guys?"

Spirit-Binding Bracelet

Mara cannot remove this item, not even with strong protection magic, as it has bound itself to her. Each day, it changes what her Attribute Substitution II (Energy > Might) feat applies to (instead of, but possibly as, Might). Each day, she rolls a 1d4. On a 1, a Fire spirit possesses her, and she gains fiery "wings" from her now red eyes, and the feat applies to Agility. On a 2, it is a water spirit, giving her frosty breath and white eyes, and the feat applies to Might. On a 3, she has flowing tattoos and blue eyes from an air elemental, and the feat applies to Influence. Finally, a 4 results in an Earth spirit giving her green inner irises and rocky hands and feet, applying the feat to Fortitude.

In terms of flavor, this is where BOTH her attribute substitution feats come from.

Air. Energy > Influence. Blue eyes. Swirling tattoos.

Earth. Energy > Fortitude. Toughness + Energy, HP + 2 x Energy. Green eyes. Rocky hands and feet.

Fire. Energy > Agility. Guard + Energy. Red eyes. Fire from eyes.

Water. Energy > Might. Guard + Energy. White eyes. Frosty breath.

1) Why do you adventure? If you weren't an adventurer, what would you do? Is this your first adventure? What do you think of the non-adventuring life of most people?

"I adventure to find answers of my most interesting thing I need to know, how to uncurse my family the Blightflower family, and while I am looking for these answers I am going to try to help out anyone in need.

"If I wasn’t an adventurer I would probably be within the Blackened Holy Castle with the Cleric Sect of Mishakal to stay helping the people of Blightwater Village. This is my first adventure and I am quite scared of the dark. I envy them, they are allowed to stay in their safe homes while the adventurers are out of their safe space and having to find things out."

2) Do you have any nicknames? Did you have any while growing up? Why were you given these nicknames?

"I have a nickname, it is called Angel, I got this when I was in the The Cleric Sect of Mishakal by the previous leader, Cindi H. Calis-Darkener, whose younger brother took over the sect. I had no nicknames while growing up since I was very uninterested in making friends back in the day. Why I was given Angel as my nickname was mostly because of my grand kindness towards the less fortunate but I was hiding a dark secret that I didn’t even tell Cindi, the previous leader of the Sect."

3) What inspires your choice of clothing?

"What inspires my choice of clothing is to remind me of better times living with my mother and father, before my mother went into a coma. I wear vibrant colors to keep the dangers of my mind wandering from my innocence. The centerpiece of my outfit is The Blightflower’s Necklace that is a flower of untold danger and enigmatic behavior, and if saw you will go into a coma."

4) Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

"I was born in the fields of Blightwater, in the Blightflower Manor it was a very great place to live but there was terrible evils everywhere, to the north was Dreaded Death Pass, and to the south was the Blightflower Graveyard, and to the East was Blighted Hills. While the West of my home was the only salvation since it lead to a Obsidian Castle called Blackened Holy Castle, which allowed anyone from Blightwater to join their Cleric Sect; it was also on a plateau.

"I grew up in the Blightflower Manor with my mother Winter Rain Blightflower, my father Scott Derrick Blightflower, and my older brothers Jonathan Silver Blightflower and Barrick Gold Blightflower. The Blightflower Manor was the biggest house within the Blightwater Village since it was mostly a place for farmers and other people but the Blightflowers were renowned Witch Hunters, who hunted everything and purified the Blackened Unholy Castle to the Blackened Holy Castle.

"Where I live now is mostly on the road, wherever it takes me I’ve been staying in a rustic town called Fallen Hope, it is pretty far from my home of Blightwater Village. Fallen Hope needed a new cleric since the last one died of unknown wounds and bites so I decided to go there since I was tasked by the Cleric Sect of Blackened Holy Castle.

5) Who were your parents - do you even know? Are they still alive? If not, what became of them? If so, do you get along with them? Are you yourself a parent? Have you ever been? Are you married?

"Winter is my mother and Scott is my father and I love them both, while I wish I could forget my older brothers since they terrified me as a kid, who are named Barrick and Jonathan respectably. My entire family is still alive within the Blightwater Manor. I got really well with my parents, my mother especially since she taught me everything I knew about being a cleric while my father was trying to force me to become a Witch Hunter. I am not a mother yet but I wish to be one of these days. No I have never been a mother since I was the youngest out of all my family. I am not married mostly because I haven’t found my true love yet but I have no idea, who that could be I haven’t really thought much into which gender I like more."

6) What training do you have? Were you an apprentice? A student? Self-taught? When and how did you first learn you could do what you do?

"I have Clerical Training from my mother and the Cleric Sect. I was a student to Cindi H. Calis-Darkener, when I was in the Cleric Sect and she gave me tons of pointers about the way I act around people and how innocent I look around them. The first thing I learned was how to use a healing spell on a weak and injured peasant from Blightwater and she was healed fully from more or less death."

7) What other jobs have you had?

"I had to help a innkeeper, to watch her inn and I ran that business for a bit. I might retire one of these days and become an Innkeeper for people who wants to rest and relax. As well, I was a traveling singer as well, who sang songs that the people wanted to hear and sometimes they allowed me to sing a song about my horrible life. I enjoy singing a lot."

8) What are the important moments of your life?

"The most important moment in my life was when my mother fell into a coma and couldn’t be awoken by any normal means because of the curse on us. She was the only shining angel and beacon in my life and when she fell into a coma, my heart sank. The other was when a Terrifying beast paid me a visit and told me the only way to get back your angel is to do the unthinkable, the opposite of what your core is. I told the beast no, and the beast just laughed in my face."

9) Do you have any likes? Dislikes? Hobbies? Goals? Especially goals. Have they changed over the years?

"I like the finer details of life, mostly in the case of writing and reading books and talking to people who can lead me in the right direction. My dislikes are getting harassed by people who want to take my dreams away and my family heirloom. My hobbies are writing, painting, and singing for anyone who wants to listen to my sad tale through song.

"My goal is to make a living while trying to free my family of the curse they are afflicted with and I like worshiping a certain Mishakal, the goddess of healing. My goals haven’t changed and I will not stop worshiping the Goddess of healing since that’s where I get my healing magic from."

10) Who/what is your most valued person? Possession? Concept? Have they changed over the years?

"My mother, Winter R. Blightflower is my angel compared to the other demons in my life. My mother’s necklace the Blightflower’s Dancing Necklace, I will cherish this possession for all my life. Freeing my entire family from a grand curse from a millennia ago, which causes anyone who lives near another Blightflower to slowly go evil and cause great pain and suffering of others. The concept has changed, it was only to free myself and my mother from the curse but I decided to free the entire family."

11) Why is that your ideal?

"My family was cursed along time ago by a terrible evil and I want to free them from it. It is a noble concept, ideal but it is much more to that to me. All that matters is the destruction of that curse."

12) Is there a line you won't cross, no matter what?

"The line I won’t cross is becoming a kinslayer, since my forefathers have done that and killed one of their own for the greater good of the world since the curse slowly turns us all evil or I have been told by generational logs of the Blightflower Family as a whole."

13) What is your greatest fear? What would make you happiest?

"My greatest fear is the dark, I have always had a big fear of that ever since I was a child and my older brother scared me shitless by using the darkness to his advantage. I would be happy if I could get rid of the curse on my family, which was terrible and evil. I want to free my mother from it the most since she’s the only shining angel in my life."

14) What is your stance on the new technologies of clockwork and firearms?

"My stance on technology is somewhat of a mixed bag, the Blightflowers were quite famous for their clockwork and firearms since my family was a long line of Witch hunters. However, I disliked that way so I just more or less decided against using what my forefathers used before and decided to become a Cleric."

Questionnaire

I had questions, and now I have answers.

1) Why do you adventure? If you weren't an adventurer, what would you do? Is this your first adventure? What do you think of the non-adventuring life of most people?

"I adventure as a means to escape...or so I tell myself. Really, it's for the Order of the Crimson Raven. They never give explicit instructions, but do reward me from time to time for things I've done. Tends to work out, getting rewarded for doing things I feel like doing.

"I never had the luxury of finding out what it's like to not have this life. I was raised into the Crimson Raven. I have always served them since my parents gave me up at 6 years old. The ritual to become what I am, however...was not pleasant. There are many, much more pleasant ways to get someone to be an adventurer.

"There aren't a lot of jobs out there for cannibals, after all."

2) Do you have any nicknames? Did you have any while growing up? Why were you given these nicknames?

"Quite an assortment, but none need be repeated. They no longer call me by any such names, but call me Countess in jest, as I am no longer beholden to that title, or indeed my name. Even the name I use now is a gift from them."

3) What inspires your choice of clothing?

"The Order's uniform. It's also enchanted to some degree, allowing me to change it to look like any outfit of similar quality. I often make my clothes look like those of other girls my age, based on what I see in any given setting. Not to blend in, just to fit in for once."

4) Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

"I was born in Castle Umberlin and lived there until the Order claimed me. Or should I say, I was given to the Order by my parents. Supposedly, it's an honor to be degraded, defiled with the blood of monsters in my stomach and veins, raped, and forced to serve the whims of a cult. Sure.

"I was "raised" by them in their stronghold, but was regifted Castle Umberlin like it was something they owed me. Which they did. But not...no. Not that I care that it's mine now; I don't live there or anything. I live on the grounds, with Mal."

5) Who were your parents - do you even know? Are they still alive? If not, what became of them? If so, do you get along with them? Are you yourself a parent? Have you ever been? Are you married?

"Ndugu and Reiko Umberlin, Count Umberlin. They no longer live. Neither does anyone else in my family, so the title no longer exists. No one will argue with the Order to say the castle's not mine now, not even the lord who betrayed my family.

6) What training do you have? Were you an apprentice? A student? Self-taught? When and how did you first learn you could do what you do?

"Fuck you."

7) What other jobs have you had?

"No, seriously. Fuck. You."

8) What are the important moments of your life?

"Nothing I haven't already said. Next question."

9) Do you have any likes? Dislikes? Hobbies? Goals? Especially goals. Have they changed over the years?

"Really? That's where you're going to go next? Fine. Alright. I can work with this.

"I like butterflies? I love my guns, I hate the Order.

"For funsies, I like to...I don't know. Whatever's an option. I prefer not to get bored.

"For goals? Freeing myself from the Crimson Raven might be nice, but I've already lost any chance of being normal. Thanks, guys."

10) Who/what is your most valued person? Possession? Concept? Have they changed over the years?

"I most value my lover within the Order, taken the same time I was, and subjected to the same torture. We got really close in that time. Definite bonding moments. Mal's pretty great, too, and around much more often.

"She gave me a locket once we had our false freedom. She even commissioned a master painter to paint tiny, tiny portraits of us inside. They're beautifully detailed.

"She is of course the more attractive of the two of us, but that locket...I would do anything if it were taken away from me to get it back.

11) Why is that your ideal?

"Freedom? Isn't it obvious?"

12) Is there a line you won't cross, no matter what?

"There aren't that many lines. I mean, I eat dead people."

13) What is your greatest fear? What would make you happiest?

"I live in fear. It's just my life. But being alone would be worst of all. What would make me happiest? I bet you can figure it out."

14) What is your stance on the new technologies of clockwork and firearms?

"I think the answer to the second part should be obvious." she draws one of her pepperboxes. "As for clockwork, if it's just there to be pretty, it should be scrapped for parts."

Note

Wren can currently not use supernatural abilities of these forms, so her fox stats in order are Agility, Might, Perception, and Will; her tiger is unchanged; and her raven only has Fortitude and Will.

Additionally, her raven form requires her to use the boon at 5th level (DC20), and her fox form requires at least 2nd level (DC 14).

Her animal forms all have antlers. Just 'cause.

Optional Rules In Place

Lethal Damage

Normally, damage dealt in combat is healed immediately after combat ends - hit points are the will to fight more than how many hits you can take or whatever. This is still true. But on a critical hit (if you roll a 20), exploding dice rolls for that d20 are lethal damage, which does not immediately heal. Lethal damage reduces your maximum HP until it is healed.

Damage outside of combat is considered lethal, such as springing a trap or falling 10 or more feet.

Lethal damage is healed at a rate of your Fortitude score per day. Medical assistance adds the "doctor's" Creation, Learning, or Presence. Only one "doctor" can add at a time (recommend the bestest one).

Custom Weapon Properties

Bloodied. This weapon deals 1 lethal damage to its user each time it is used. This property reduces the Wealth Level of a weapon by 1.

Switch. This is applied to two weapons (or one weapon that is collapsible). Switching between weapons is a separate minor action from retrieve/stow. There is no WL increase, but the minimum WL of the final weapons is 2. The weapons take up one inventory slot, but otherwise count as two separate weapons for all purposes (except the Disarmed bane).

Time to Drop Knowledge

Let's say you are attacked by a gobbo because you're an asshole and invading their lands and killing their people. The gobbo rolls a 20 and a 6 for damage. The d20 "explodes", so I roll again for the gobbo. Damage on this die is lethal damage. That little badass!

World Stuff

Gods

Mishakal

Mishakal is the goddess of healing.

Her holy place is the Blackened Holy Castle.

Yog-Sothoth

"Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod earth's fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread." ─ H.P. Lovecraft, "The Dunwich Horror"

Yog-Sothoth is our stand-in for a "god" of forbidden knowledge. It is a genderless, writhing, tentacled mass, with many eyes that appear and disappear within its form. Its followers collect information in hopes of gaining information themselves.

There are no formal temples to Yog-Sothoth, but followers usually have vast libraries of their own to perform rituals and "prayers."

Groups

The Blightflower Family

The members of the Blightflower family. Or at least the ones in Blightflower Manor in Blightwater.

Scott Derrick Blightflower. Stacey's Father.

Winter Rain Blightflower. Stacey's Mom (has got it goin' on).

Barrick Gold Blightflower. Stacey's Eldest Brother. Kind of a dick. Uses shadows to his advantage.

Jonathan Silver Blightflower. Stacey's Elder Brother. Kind of a dick.

The Cleric Sect of Mishakal

A group of clerics? They follow Mishakal, goddess of healing. Their main holy place (to the best of my knowledge) is the Blackened Holy Castle.

Cindi H. Calis-Darkener. Previous leader. Retired.

Gerrick H. Calis-Darkener. Current leader.

The Order of the Crimson Raven

Cannibals. Monster Hunters. Torturers. Mercenaries. Saviors of nations. Destroyers of demons. They eat the flesh of the those they kill to absorb their memories, as a mercy from death; they believe that those who die go on to a "Mother of Monsters" to be eaten and turned into monsters.

Their members are given clothing that changes appearance between their "work uniform" and any clothing of equal quality (which is pretty high). They are also given a pair of pepperboxes to hunt monsters.

The Order is technically a cult, though they don't worship the Mother of Monsters as much as they hate her and try to deny her more souls.

The Order takes children (often freely given by their parents), tortures them, makes them drink a strange concoction of bloods, herbs, and other mysterious substances, and sets them free.

They do have "quests" for their members, but they don't inform them of what they are, so at times, it seems they've been rewarded for no reason. Most members have no idea what their ultimate goal is for the tasks they are asked to do, because they're seemingly random and give far too large of rewards for them, such as "enter the dungeon and place this empty backpack against the first wall to your right after the main hallway."

Places

Blackened Holy Castle

Cleric Sect of Mishakal holy place. Located on a plateau to the west of Blightwater. This castle is made of lightened obsidian.

Blighted Hills

East of Blightwater Village.

Blightflower Graveyard

South of Blightwater Village.

Blightwater Village

Home of the Blightflowers, revered witch hunters living in Blightflower Manor, the largest home in the farming village.

Castle Umberlin

Former home of Count and Countess Umberlin. The castle itself is empty, the lands belong to the Order now, and the title no longer exists. Wren was left in charge in name.

Dreaded Death Pass.

North of Blightwater Village.

Fallen Hope

Rustic town pretty far from Blightwater Village, at least according to Stacey. Could be a mile. Could be hundreds. It was short a cleric before Stacey was tasked to go there.

The Frostkiln

A mountain keep to the east of the Summerless Isles.

Goodburg

Home of most Goodburgers. They are happy to take orders. (THIS IS NOT A REAL PLACE IN-GAME).

Qarn

The Great Capital City of Qarn, where you go get rich, get enemies and get your throat slit. I'm more keen on the getting rich part, but I suppose I got the latter. It's a big place that holds host to the world's longest brawl, figuratively speaking. Everyone here is in it for the competition since it's where all the power is. Big church, big market, big castle, it's the trifecta of power. What sense would it make if all three of them weren't at each other's throats?

Summerless Isles

Islands far to the north. There is a portion of this kingdom that isn't on the islands itself (in fact, most isn't, if you go by square footage, but all the islands together are the largest kingdom in the world by length of coastlines). It's pretty much all tundra, though, and spends most of the year in winter.

Ularn

Manufacturing capital of the world! It’s a whole bunch of really tight alleyways, cobbled streets covered in soot from the non-stop chugging of factories, making everything from wagon wheels to pistols, and even has a cannery.

The city is run by a counsel of Merchant Nobles, mostly factory owners. In Ularn, money talks and the closer to get to the inner city, the nicer everything becomes.

In the middle is a massive spire that houses the government, as well as a huge library of magical tomes - and mages themselves, obviously. The mages there are hired on by the Golden Counsel and work to find new ways to improve production and draw in students to keep that research going.

Most people in Ularn work in factories, and their families do the same. There is a healthy population of gangs that function as the police for the outer city. No need to waste guards in the soot-stained streets. Violence is common, and plenty of children grow up scrounging for their daily disgusting meals.

In general though, if you have the money to live in the inner city, life is good. You have access to the top notch tech of the day and plenty of people to feel superior to.

Versalais

A forested kingdom south of the Summerless Isles.

Races

Aasimar

Humans with some angel blood. Most of the time, they somehow manage to blend in with human society.

Chuci

Pronounced "tshu-shih."

They are tiny creatures that are able to hover in place with flight, and have tall ears and an excellent sense of smell. They are also racially attuned to the elements.

Their society is split by gender - males and females are separate cultures. They change gender as they age, beginning monogendered, before being sent to live with the females, or continue to live with the males.

As a people, they are generally good at cryptography. They use cosmetics extensively for cultural reasons. They are noted for their archives, armor, and gambling houses, but are famous for their theaters.

They worship a single hermaphroditic deity who works with a host of created sub-deities that are also worshiped, though these gods are alien and unheard of by others. Most religious observation is personal and intimate.

Their government is a functional technocracy. Once slaves, they overthrew their masters, the goliaths centuries ago, and rule their realm now. It's a wonder goliaths managed to survive so long without them...

They completely control a land that is prone to earthquakes, divided into city-states. One of these city-states is in a swamp known for its exotic animal life.

Goliath

Super tall dudes. Their bodies look like they are carved from mountain stone. Generally nomadic, it is rare that one develops a lasting bond with anything.

Goliaths roam around all the open areas near mountains, but especially on the mountains themselves. They murder, pillage, and rape for fun most of the time, and have a bad habit of killing people, too. So that's fun. But they thankfully don't stay in a place too long.

A common joke about why they are referred to as "herds" is that they either chew cud or do other unspeakable things to cows. Not really as much of a joke as it would seem, but it's not entirely true, either. Because, you know, there's no alcohol in cud.

Oh. And they all do the same things to other herds they find that they do to other people.

Goliath herds tend not to be devotees of the Cute due to something that happened when they were allied with the Chuci and were betrayed and forced from their homeland to a life of wandering.

Human

Humans are humans. Humans are scary, scary monsters that poison themselves for fun, and to build tolerance to poisons and diseases. They can hunt by just following something until it dies of exhaustion. Scary motherfuckers, right here.

Ilfan

Ilfan appear like halflings, but with features of many other races. They are not a true race, but a subrace of halflings with a rich racial heritage. Universally cute, but not necessarily to levels that would affect others in a positive way, and occasionally even quite the opposite. They mature slightly faster than humans, but have similar lifespans. They tend to keep a childish appearance.

Psychopomp

Semi-corporeal deliverers of the dead to other realms. They, however, used to be alive, but are now difficult to kill and are denied access to higher or lower realms.

Tiefling

Humans with some demon blood. They are not generally accepted in society, and are not particularly common.

Fighters and Fightables

Apparently, monsters aren't something they thought of including yet. To be fair, the game's not technically complete yet, but not the point! I'll make some sample monsters. That'll show 'em. Grrr. Stupid, sexy Matt Mercer. >< Stop being so cute and start making monsters for everyone.

Also, there are NPCs here. Some may be fought. Some may fight alongside us.
