Kittling

"When you think about a mighty warrior, what is it you see? I obviously think of that clean shaven, armor clad human figure with a mighty sword and a dented shield, eyes weary from countless battles. But warriors, mighty and strong, don't have to come in such obvious packages. Sometimes mighty warriors can be two and a half feet tall, fuzzy, and would prefer nothing more than to curl up next to the fireplace and take a long nap."

-Thalamus Eraldee, A Lifetime of Meetings

Preface

Have you wanted to play as a cat? I'm not talking about the half-man, half-cat creatures you often see poluting modern fantasy. I'm talking about an honest to goodness Mister Whiskers type characters, the innately curious, tree-climbing, life-loving type cat. Well, so did we. That's why we created the Kittling.

Harsh Enviroments, Good Company

The homeland of the Kittling, Wadapp, is a cold, harsh land where only danger resides. Food sources are scarce and warm places even more so. Yet, to the perceptive observer, tunnels can be found leading from the surface to the deepest, oldest layers of snow. There you can find the homes of the Kittling, small, comfortable, and tightknit borrows where these small creatures gather. Kittlings vary from two feet to three feet tall, and are covered head to toe with a layer of fur. That fur varies in color from orange, brown, white, black, spotted, and so on. They have big, feline eyes that glow in the dark, a wet, triangular nose that connects to their upper lip with a philtrum, and whiskers that permeate around their cheeks and nose.

Short and Sweet

Kittling's live to be around 45 to 60 years, or in Kittling years, up to 255 years old. During their first year of life, the Kittling expiriences 15 birthdays, and then four birthdays every consecutive year. This means that parties are numerous in Kittling culture, and they live in a state of eternal bliss, so long as food sources remain plentiful. Kittlings don't see much outside of their small holes in the ground, so an adventuring Kittling can often be caught up in a whirlwind of new expiriences, which can often get them into trouble, especially if they're the curious sort.

Because of their of short lives, the Kittling is known for having big families with many brothers and sisters. Once a year, if the Kittling is the stay at home sort, they all gather in the Kittling capital of Kogtetki, where they usually find potential mates with which to spend the rest of their days. With their charisma, Kittlings are able to find friends with most all races, and can often be found in parties with a wide variety of characters.

A magic weilding Kittling is a rare thing to find, as Kittlings' themselves have no magical affinity. When it comes to magic, a Kittling will likely instead turn to alchemy or simply become booksmart. If you do find a Kittling immersed in the arcane arts, they will likely be a sorcerer, as the time it takes to become a wizard is ususally too much for the Kittling's short lifespan.

Kittling Names

Kittlings recieve their names quickly from their birthparents, with usually not much thought given to them. Despite this, a Kittling is proud of his or her given name in almost all cases. Occasionally, they will recieve a nickname based on their full name, because the full names can sometimes be a mouthful.

Kittling Traits

The Kittling has a lot in its kit, most notably a boosted movespeed, invaluable for a creature of their size.

Ability Score Increase: Your Dexterity score increased by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age: An adventuring Kittling will likely be between the ages of 10 and 20, ten being considered mature for their kind. The oldest a Kittling can be is 60.

Alignment: Kittlings are usually chaotic in nature, and usually take a nuetral stance in conflicts. They have been known to harbor true heroes, and there is, of course, the occasional bad apple among them.

Size: Kittings are usually 2 to 3 feet tall, and weigh 40 to 80 pounds at adulthood. Your size is small.

Fur: As a Kittling, your fur can be a range of muted colors, such as brown, black, white, beige, and even occasionally orange. You are also bound to have splotches in your fur.

Speed: Your base walking speed is 35 feet.

Darkvision: You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Snow Tunneling: Kittings, when above snow, can optionally tunnel below it at the speed of 15 feet, and can always tell how deep under the snow they are.

Catlike Nimbleness: You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.

Kittling Weapon Training: You can use a shovel as a simple melee weapon, and you have always have proficiency in it. A shovel deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage, plus your stregnth modifier.
