Warlock Pact

An attempt at adding a risk management feature to a warlock using mostly existing mechanics.

Pact of the Channeler

When you take this pact, select 2 Cleric Domains that can be reasonably associated with your patron. Partial examples of "reasonable" domains are listed below if desired.

You may Invoke your Patron's might, performing one of the level 2 Channel Divinity effects your selected Domains have access to. The action required as well as any effects are as described in the appropriate Channel Divinity. Replace references of "Holy Symbol" with "Arcane Focus" and "Cleric Level" with "Warlock Level."

After the effect has been fully resolved, you must pass a Constitution Saving Throw or suffer a level of Exhaustion. The DC for this saving throw starts at 13 for the first test, but increases by 5 for every time past that. It resets to 13 upon completion of a Short or Long Rest.

Invoking your patron's might requires you be neither gagged nor bound; some rough arm movement and speaking is involved.

When you reach the seventh level in the Warlock class, you may instead invoke any level 6 Channel Divinity effects offered in your available Domains.

Additionally, when you take this pact you gain the ability to Disengage as a bonus action as you channel a limited amount of your patrons power and ward off convenient blows.

Example Domains

A few quick examples of what domains may be associated with a patron. These could further change depending on the specific patron - not all Archfey are the same, for example.

  • Archfey: Knowledge, Nature, Tempest, Trickery
  • Fiend: War, Death, Arcana, Trickery
  • Great Old One: Knowledge, Arcana, Death, Trickery
  • The Undying: Death, Arcana, Life, Knowledge

Invocations

New invocations to supplement a Channeler Warlock.

Awesome Channeler

Prerequisite: 5th level, Pact of the Channeler feature

You may add half your Charisma Modifier (rounded up) to your Constitution check for Channeling.

Save it for Later...Probably

Prerequisite: 7th level, Pact of the Channeler feature

You may automatically pass a Constitution check for Channeling. However, the next time you make such a check it is with Disadvantage. You escape this retribution if you undergo a Long Rest between then and now.

You may not use this feature if the Constitution check should be made at Disadvantage due to a previous use of this ability.

A Burning Intensity

Prerequisite: 9th level, Pact of the Channeler feature

Rather than make a Constitution Check you may instead take an amount of force damage equal to the DC that the check would be. This damage ignores resistances and immunities.
