Knight Ferrous

By JMCampbell

Every warrior forms a close attachment to their weapon but for the Knight Ferrous it is more than that. They build a bond with their weapon and through it they can speak to all the metal around them. This fighter archetype uses its unique talent to become truly deadly swordsmen.

Skilled Metalworker

When you choose this archetype, you gain proficiency with smith's tools. If you already have proficiency in smith's tools, you may choose to gain proficiency with another set of artisan's tools, vehicle, musical instrument, or gaming set.

Bonded Weapon

Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you build a bond with the weapons you wield.

After you have spent an hour with a metal weapon, it will fold itself to your will. As a bonus action, you can change the type of damage your melee weapon deals to blunt, slashing, or piercing. At 5th level, your weapon counts as a magic weapon for purposes of resistance as long as you wield it.

Metal Senses

Starting at 7th level, you can sense metal around you. By spending one uninterrupted moment in concentration, you can tell roughly the amount of metal around you and what type. Also if you can not see, enemies with metal weapons or armor do not gain advantage when attacking you nor do you suffer disadvantage when attacking them.

Twisting Metal

At 7th level, by focusing on a piece of metal you can get small pieces to move on their own or work large pieces of metal by hand.

You must take a long rest before you can use this ability again. At 15th level, this ability recharges after a short or long rest.

If using the variant rule for encumbrance, at 7th level metal items you carry count as half their normal weight.

How to Twist Metal.

Twisting Metal is intentionally left vague so that you and your Dungeon Master can work out what exactly this power can do in your campaign based on the power level of your game. Some suggested uses might be:

  • Allow you to open a simple lock just by touching it.
  • Give you advantage when trying break metal items.
  • Allow you to attempt to break down metal doors that are usually impassible.
  • Make a buckle unbuckle itself by staring at it.

While this power allows you to effect any metal, The DM may want to ask for a smithing skill check when working with rare or well crafted metals, such as mythral.

Flash of Steel

At 10th level, metal becomes part of you hardening your skin and learns to react to your thoughts faster than your body naturally could. You add your proficiency bonus to your initiative.

Also, twice per long rest, when you miss with an attack you may add 1d10 to your attack roll as your blade twists and contorts to bypass your enemies weapons and strike home.

Perfectly Honed

At 15th level, any metal weapon you wield strengthens itself and hones itself to a perfect edge. You deal an additional 2 points of damage with any metal weapon you wield and score a critical hit on a roll of 19-20.

Perfect Defense

At 18th level, you gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical weapons.

You also gain advantage on all constitution saves as metal has become part of every cell of your body.
