The notion of a person's close friend actually being a changeling is rarely a pleasant thought. The notion of a person needing to disguise themselves on a regular basis can certainly be offputting. Still, some find utilty in them.

Those that are able to embrace the positive traits that a changeling can bring along to a particular task can find ways to get the job done, even if it is with an unfamiliar face.

Changeling Traits

Changelings are subtle shapeshifters capable of disguising their apperance. Their ability to adopt other creatures' guises makes them consummate spies and criminals.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity and Charisma increase by 1.

Age. Changelings reach maturity at 15 and live as long as humans do.

Alignment.

Size. Changelings are built much like humans, but a little leaner. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Duplicity. You gain proficiency in the Deception skill

Shapechanger. As an action, you can polymorph into any humanoid of your size that you have seen, or back into your true form. However, your equipment does not change with you. If you die, you revert to your natural appearance.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.

Guises. While changelings of all walks can very naturally change their appearance to match other races, some have slightly different takes on the best way to integrate within their respective roles. When you make a changeling, choose a guise under which you operate.

Actor

You are more adept at adopting a variety of roles to fit your porpose.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma increases further by 1.

Adept Linguist. You gain two bonus languages of your choice. In addition, you can reliably adjust any language you know to convincingly pull of a regional dialect you've already heard.

Ready for the Center Stage. You gain proficiency in the Performance skill.

Becomer

Instead of imposing as a wider range of races, you are particularly adept at appearing like a specific race.

Ability Score Increase. You increase one ability score of your choice by 1, including either Charisma or Dexterity.

Perfected Presence. Choose a humanoid race of medium size. When making Charsima (Deception) checks to avoid others seeing through your disguise, you can use double your proficiency bonus instead of the regular proficiency bonus.

Racial Specialist. Your practice at working within your chosen race gives you an added benefit of your choice, as a representation of your deeper knowledge of the given race.


Choose one feature from the following:

Minor Darkvision. You gain darkvision up to 30 feet.

Combat Mimickry. You gain proficiency with one weapon from Dwarven, Elf, or Drow weapon training lists.

Trained Resistance. Choose either Fire, Acid, Lightning, Poison, or Cold damage, representative of your chosen race. If you are subject to damage of that damage type, you can use your reaction to gain resistance to that damage type until the start of your next turn.

You cannot use this feature again until you finish a short rest or long rest.

Deeper Immersion. You gain a bonus skill or tool proficiency and a bonus language from your associated race.

Shaper

Your practice has allowed you to shift your body in more exotic ways, whether to impose as a wider range of shapes, or for protection purposes.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution increases by 1.

Adept Shifting. Your Shapechanger ability expands to being able to impose as small or large humanoid creatures.

Instinctive Defense. If you are struck by an attack that does Slashing, Bludgeoning, or Piercing damage, you can use your reaction to gain resistance to that damage until the end of the current turn.

You cannot use this feature again until you finish a short rest or a long rest.
