Martial Archetype

Different fighters choose different approaches to perfecting their fighting prowess. The martial archetype you choose to emulate reflects your approach.

Psychic Warrior

While other fighter archetypes focus on external forces, from spells to controlling the battlefield, the psychic warrior focuses the power of his mind to devastating effect.

Psionics

As a student of psionics, you can master and use psionic talents and disciplines, the rules for which appear at the end of Unearthed Arcana: The Mystic Class web document. Psionics is a special form of magic use, distinct from spellcasting.

Psionic Talents

A psionic talent is a minor psionic effect you have mastered. At 3rd level, you know one psionic talent of your choice. You learn additional talents of your choice at higher levels. The Talents Known column of the Psychic Warrior table shows the total number of talents you know at each level; when that number goes up for you choose a new talent.

Psi Points

You have an internal reservoir of energy that can be devoted to psionic disciplines you know. This energy is represented by psi points. Each psionic discipline describes effects you can create with it by spending a certain number of psi points. A psionic talent requires no psi points.

The number of psi points you have is based on your mystic level, as shown in the Psi Points column of the Psychic Warrior table. The number shown for your level is your psi point maximum. Your psi point total returns to its maximum when you finish a long rest. The number of psi points you have can’t go below 0 or over your maximum.

Psionic Disciplines

A psionic discipline is a rigid set of mental exercises that allows a psychic warrior to manifest psionic power. A psychic warrior masters only a few disciplines at a time.

At 3rd level, you know one psionic discipline of your choice from the Order of the Avatar or the Order of the Immortal. The Disciplines Known column of the Psychic Warrior table shows the total number of disciplines you know at each level; when that number goes up for you, choose a new discipline. As a student of psionics, you can master and use psionic talents

and disciplines. Psionics is a special form of magic use, distinct from spellcasting, the rules for which appear at the end of Unearthed Arcana: The Mystic Class web document.

In addition, whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one discipline you know with a different one of your choice from the appropriate disciplines.

Combat and Manifesting

If a psionic discipline applies to a psychic warrior's attack, the warrior may only use a single attack when using that discipline. If a discipline's description specifically applies to more than one attack, a psychic warrior still only applies that discipline's powers to one singular attack.

Psi Limit

Though you have access to a potent amount of psionic energy, it takes training and practice to channel that energy. There is a limit on the number of psi points you can spend to activate a psionic discipline. The limit is based on your psychic warrior level, as shown in the Psi Limit column of the Psychic Warrior table. For example, as a 10th-level psychic warrior, you can spend no more than 2 psi points on a discipline each time you use it, no matter how many psi points you have.

Psychic Focus

You can focus psionic energy on one of your psionic disciplines to draw ongoing benefits from it. As a bonus action, you can choose one of your
psionic disciplines and gain its psychic
focus benefit, which is detailed in that
discipline’s description. The benefit lasts
until you are incapacitated or until you
use another bonus action to choose a
different focus benefit. You can have only
one psychic focus benefit at a time, and
using the psychic focus of one discipline
doesn’t limit your ability to use other
disciplines.

Psionic Ability

Wisdom is your psionic ability
for your psionic disciplines. You
use your Wisdom modifier when
setting the saving throw DC for a
psionic discipline or when making
an attack roll with one.

Discipline save DC  = 8 + your
proficiency bonus + your Wisdom
modifier

Discipline attack modifier =
your proficiency bonus + Wisdom

Psychic Resonance

Just as you have harnessed the
powers of the mind, you have also
learned to absorb the energy of
both magical and physical
attacks. At 3rd level, when you
take damage from any attack,
you add 1 temporary psi point
to your psi pool. Unspent psi
points dissipate at the end of a
short rest.

Adaptive Will

You have learned through battles of both mind and body that mental fortitude can win the day just as often as physical might. At 7th level, after a rest, you may change your proficiency with Strength saving throws to Wisdom saving throws. Additionally, you have advantage on skill checks associated with your chosen ability.

Psychic Charge

You have learned to implant psychic energy within your weapon giving it pseudomagical properties. At 10th level you may expend 1 psi point to implant a psychic charge within your weapon giving it a +1 to attack and damage. This charge lasts for 1 minute or until you release it with a damaging attack dealing an extra 1d6 psychic damage. You can charge your weapon with additional psychic charges to a maximum amount equal to your psi limit.

Psionic Brawn

By harnessing your telekinetic power you are able to            carry more weight than what your natural              strength would allow. At 15th level, treat your                  Size as being one category larger for the                      purposes of lifting and carrying. See page                            176 of the Player's Handbook for the                               rules for lifting and carrying.

Weapons made for your size                                   are augmented under this ability.                                     Refer to the table for a list of                                     changes. The weapon's damage                                     stays the same.

                               Perpetual Motion

After many years of meditation                                     and inner reflection, you have                              mastered the ability to tap into your                               own body's kinetic energy. At 18th                               level, at the end of a short rest, you                             may use the roll from one of your                             fighter hit dice to replensish your                              psi pool, and, forever more, your                              maximum Psi Point total is                             increased by your Wisdom modifier.
