Runic Bear

Twisted by dark magic and tormented into an endless rage, this monstrous bear wreaks havoc on its would-be hunters, turning prey into predator with a quick snap of its jaw

Runic Corruption

The runes covering its body are not for decoration: they are the corrupt source of this bear's power. Forced upon it by unknown dark forces, the runes have corrupted this otherwise normal bear, forcing it to grow far beyond its normal size and giving it a few terrifying abilities

Behavior

Despite the immense power contained within the runes on its body, the bear still behaves similarly to its former self. That being said, it will not hesitate to claw at or bite anyone or anything it deems to be a threat (or easy prey)

Rune Targeting

The Runic Bear initially has seven runes, one on the exterior of each leg, one on the stomach, back, and forehead. Each rune has its own HP and AC (as listed below). Note: If the bear is standing on its hind legs, -2 to stomach AC, and -4 to back AC

Corruption. This bear has been enlarged through absorbing some of the magical energy from runes placed on its body

Runic Counterplay. When attacking the bear, if the roll to hit (plus modifiers) reaches or exceeds the AC of the rune facing closest to the attacker, deal damage to that rune as well as the bear

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5ft., one target. Hit 8 (1d8 + 4) piercing damage. Can be used to grapple (with +5 to check)

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10ft., one target. Hit 7 (1d6 + 4) slashing damage

Runic Rage. Action: Consume 1 rune, heal self for 12 (2d8+4). For the next 12 seconds, go on a magic induced rampage, using two attacks per turn (two claws or one claw and one bite). Also gain +10ft base movespeed for the duration

Corrupt Intervention. Reaction: If the bear reaches 0 HP or lower, and has at least 1 rune left, activate Runic Rage, consuming 2 runes (if possible) for double the healing effect

Feral Roar. Reaction: When all runes are destroyed and/or consumed, the bear lets out a demonic roar, fearing all creatues that can hear it within 80 feet (wisdom saving throw to avoid, DC 13) for 30 seconds. Also, as the bear roars, the destroyed runes explode, lighting the beast on fire (in the color of the runes). At the start of the bears next turn, all creatues within 20 feet must make a dexterity saving throw (DC 10). Those who fail take 2d4 fire damage, those who save take half as much. At the start of the bears next turn, this effect repeats. The effect stops if the bear is slain
