Bard College: College of the Dance

Bards of the College of the Dance are called Dervish, and they are masters of the deadly Dervish Dance. Dervish are expert dancers who wield scimitars and a myriad of brightly colored streamers. While performing a Dervish Dance, the bard becomes a whirlwind of color and blades, a formidable combination in combat. Using their dance to mesmerize foes, a Dervish is often a difficult target to hit, and even more dangerous to approach.

Many Dervish earn a living as street performers or members of a traveling troupe. Some Dervish are daring enough to venture out with parties of adventurers, becoming a deadly display on the battlefield in addition to lending support through their bardic skills and arcane training.

Some of the less scrupulous Dervish make a living by more scandalous means, using their dance as a distraction to cover up the works of their mischevious partners in crime.

Whatever the moral leaning of a Dervish, they are sought out as valuable allies by adventuring parties for their versatility in and out of combat.

Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of the Dance at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Scimitars and the Two Weapon Fighting Style.

Dervish Dance

Also at 3rd level you learn to implement your Dervish Dance in combat, provided that you are wielding at least one scimitar and aren't wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield. It graces you with supernatural speed, agility, and focus. You can use a bonus action to start the Dervish Dance, which lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are incapacitated, if you don medium or heavy armor or a shield, or if you use any weapon other than a scimitar. You can also dismiss the Dervish Dance at any time you choose (no action required).

While your Dervish Dance is active, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain a bonus to your AC equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of+ 1).
  • Your walking speed increases by 10 feet.
  • You do not provoke opportunity attacks from a creature that you hit with a melee attack for the rest of your turn.
  • You may roll a Performance check opposed by your target's AC to hit with your melee weapon attacks in combat

You can use this feature twice. You regain all expended uses of it when you finish a short or long rest.

Extra Attack

Starting at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

Devestating Dance

Starting at 14th level, you add your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1) to the damage of your melee weapon attacks while your Dervish Dance is active.
