Sacred Oath: Oath of Silence

Words are at times powerful. Words can save or end lives. Words can fabricate lies or slice through them. Words can soothe. Words can hurt. Words can pass memories for generations. Words can make magic through powerful and eloquent incantations. Words can uncover things best not known.

But some wish for these words not to be heard.

Tenets of Silence

The Oath of Silence is sworn by those who vow to keep dangerous secrets. Whether guarding the true names of archdevils, or the means of destroying a lich's phylactery, these shadowy warriors relentlessly hunt down and destroy any witness or evidence of the secret they guard.

Forever-Stilled Tongue. The words of your sworn secret may never pass from your lips.

Snuff Out the Truth. Those who know your secret shall be hunted down and slain.

Hide All Trace. Leave no hint of the truth uncleansed from the world.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Shush. As an action, you can touch a creature, using your Channel Divinity to seal their lips. The creature must make a Charisma saving throw or become unable to speak or make any verbal sounds for 10 minutes or until you lose your concentration (as if concentrating on a spell). As a bonus action, you may end the effect.

Divinus Versa. As a reaction when targeted by divination magic, you whisper a prayer of protection, using your Channel Divinity and engaging the spellcaster in a Charisma contest. If you win the contest, the spellcaster takes psychic damage equal to your Charisma modifier and the divination fails. If you lose the contest, the divination works as normal.

Deceptive Nature

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the Deception and Stealth skills.


Wraith Form

Starting at 7th level, you gain the ability to become one with shadow. As an action, you can dissolve into a smokelike, shadowy cloud. While in wraith form, attack rolls made against are made with disadvantage. In addition, you have a flying speed of 30 feet and can move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain, but cannot end your turn in such a space. While in an area of darkness, you have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks. You cannot take the Attack action or cast spells while in wraith form. As an action, you may revert to your normal form.

Phantom Mind

At 15th level, you are permanantly under the effects of the mind blank spell. In addition, you are not affected by zone of truth spells or similar magic.

Lord of Secrets

At 20th level, as an action, you can assume a ghastly, spectral form. For 1 minute, an aura of dark energy pulsates out of you in a 15-foot radius, granting the following benefits:

  • Creatures that start their turn within the radius have disadvantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws.
  • Your weapon attacks deal an extra 3d6 psychic damage.

  • Divination magic targeting you automatically fails.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
