Vax'ildan

Never entirely welcome in the company of elves or men, Vax'ildan learned at a young age to skip past formality, preferring instead to invite himself in your door. Along with twin sister Vex'ahlia, Vax was born by a chance encounter between elven royalty and human peasantry. Raised by their mother in their early years, the twins were eventually sent off to their father in the elven capital of Syngorn. But their cool reception among the elves there never warmed, and their time in the capital didn't last. The siblings stole away one autumn night and set out on the open road.

After a few years of wandering, they eventually decided to return to their mother, and journeyed back to the lands of their youth. But instead of finding their childhood home, they returned to a pile of rubble. Their mother was gone, their home burned to ash. Pressing the townspeople for answers, they learned of the day the dragon came.

With their ties all severed, Vax'ildan and his sister set out to find their fortune together in Tal'Dorei. An outsider since birth, Vax quickly learned to solve life's challenges in his own particular way, often by sidestepping them entirely. And when his knack for circumventing adversity isn't enough, the way of blades the elves schooled him in more than makes up the difference."

Expertise

Vax'ildan has honed his skills as a thief and doubles his Perception, Acrobatics, Stealth and Thief's tools profficiency bonus.

Cunning Action

Vax'ildan's quick thinking and agility allow him to move and act quickly. As a bonus action on his turn he can hide, dash, or disengage.

Thieves Cant

As a rogue Vax'ildan understands a secret language of the thiefs guild.

Uncanny Dodge

When Vax'ildan has an attacker that he can see hits him with an attack, he can use his reaction to halve the attack’s damage against him.

Sneak Attack

Once per turn, Vax'ildan can deal an extra 7d6 damage to one creature he hits with an attack if he has advantage on the attack roll. The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon. He doesn’t need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn’t incapacitated, and he doesn’t have disadvantage on the attack roll.

Rogue Archtype: Assassin

Vax'ildan gains a number of skills from his Assassin Archtype.

Bonus profeciencies: Disguise Kit, Poisoners Kit

Assassinate: Gives Vax'ildan advantage on attacks against enemies who havent had a turn in combat yet. All hits against surprised creatures are criticals.

Infiltration Expertise Vax'ildan can create fals identities for himself.

Imposter Vax'ildan can mimic another persons speech, writing, and behavior.

Evasion

Vax'ildan's extraordinary abilities allow him to leap or twist out of the way. If subjected to an attack that allows a Reflex save for half damage, Vax'ildan uses evasion and takes no damage on a successful save. As with a Reflex save for any creature, Vax'ildan must have room to move in order to evade. If he is bound or squeezing through an area he cannot use evasion. As with a Reflex save for any creature, evasion is a reflexive ability. Vax'ildan need not know that the attack is coming to use evasion.

Reliable Talent

When Vax'ildan makes an ability check that lets him add his proficiency bonus, he treats a d20 roll of 9 or lower as a 10.

Divine Sense

The presence of strong evil registers on his senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in his ears. As an action, he can open his awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of his next turn, he knows the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of him that is not behind total cover. He knows the type (celestial, fiend, or undead) of any being whose presence he senses, but not its identity. He can use this feature 3 times. When you finish a long rest, you regain all expended uses.

Divine Smite

When Vax hits a creature with a melee weapon attack, he can expend one spell slot to deal radiant damage to the target, in addition to the weapon’s damage. The extra damage is 2d8 for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d8 for each spell level higher than 1st, to a maximum of 5d8. The damage increases by 1d8 if the target is an undead or a fiend.
