College of the Skalds

Skalds are poets, historians, and keepers of lore who use their gifts for oration and song to inspire allies into a frenzied rage. They balance a violent spirit with the veneer of civilization, recording events such as heroic battles and the deeds of great leaders, enhancing these stories.

Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of the Skalds at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with medium armor, shields, and martial weapons.

Incite Rage

Also at 3rd level, you can sing songs of valor that incite a battle rage in the hearts of those who hear it.

As a bonus action, you can expend a use of your bardic inspiration to incite yourself, or an ally that can see and hear you, into a rage. Additionally, the creature gains temporary hit points equal to your bardic inspiration die.

Alternatively, you may use this feature to incite an enemy creature into a rage. The creature must make a Charisma saving throw equal to your spell save DC, or enter a rage.

A creature incited to rage must take a long rest before they can be incited again.

Rage

While raging, you gain the following benefits if you aren't wearing heavy armor:

  • You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
  • When you make a melee weapon attack using Strength, you gain a +2 bonus to the damage roll.
  • You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.

If you are able to cast spells, you can't cast them or concentrate on them while raging.

Your rage lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you haven't attacked a hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then. You can also end your rage on your turn as a bonus action.

Extra Attack

Starting at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

Baleful Ballad

Beginning at 14th level, you have learned to incite a rage that lingers in the hearts of those effected.

You may use your Incite Rage feature on a creature twice before they need to take a long rest.

In addition, when you enter a rage from your Incite Rage feature, you can maintain concentration on a spell.
