Warforged

Built as mindless machines to fight in the Last War, the warforged developed sentience as a side effect of the arcane experiments that sought to make them the ultimate weapons of destruction. With each successive model that emerged from the creation forges of House Cannith, the warforged evolved until they became a new kind of creature—living constructs. Warforged are renowned for their combat prowess, their size, and their single-minded focus. They make steadfast allies and fearsome enemies. Earlier warforged models are true constructs; some of these remnants of the Last War appear in monstrous varieties, such as the warforged titan

Warforged Traits

Your Warforged character has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase: Your Constitution score increases by 2.

Age: A warforged is built complete and considered fully developed after construction, at least physically. They do not age, though no one is certain how long they can live for, they are believed to be immortal.

Alignment: Warforged are generally neutral. Though they are perfectly capable of independent thought and understanding of morality, most choose not to wrestle with ethical ideals.

Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Integrated Armor: You can integrate armor on to your body as long as you are proficient with it. Donning and Doffing integrated armor is done over a period of short or long rest. Integrated armor does not count towards your carrying capacity and you can recharge normally whitout removing it.

Living Construct: Even though you were constructed, you are a living creature. You are immune to disease. You do not need to eat or breathe, but you can ingest food and drink if you wish.

Recharge: A warforged doesn't need to sleep, but instead must spend a short period of time each day allowing their core to recharge. Instead of the usual long rest of 8 hours, a warforged must instead deactivate itself for 4 hours a day to recharge. During this time they are incapable of taking any action and cannot be woken by any means until their recharge is complete. They count as being Petrified for the purpose of taking actions, being targeted etc.

If magic puts you to sleep, instead it deactivates you. When you are deactivated in this way, everything that would normally wake up a human, activates you.

Languages: You can speak, read, and write Common, and one extra language of your choice. Warforged typically learn the language of their creators.

Creator preferences: All Warforgeds are created using a common blueprint, but each creator usually modifies the standard according to their own preferences. Choose one aspect from each of the Chasis, Power Core, Countermeasures and Internal Functions and add them to your traits.

Chasis

The chassis is the basic form with which you were built

Compact: You stand between 2'6 and 4' feet tall and weigh between 50 and 200 pounds. Your Size is Small.

Regular: You stands between 5 and 7 feet tall and weighs between 200 and 400 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Power Core

Power core is the center piece that distributes the magic that animates your body. Your power core works with a strange energy that shines when its exposed (it is only visible when you take out your integrated armor)

Red: The energy that animates you shines red, and gives your movements firmness and power. Your Strength Score increments by 1

Green: The energy that animates you shines green, and gives your movements grace and precision. Your Dexterity Score increments by 1

Countermeasures

The countermeasures are the security measures that your creators included in your construction.

Biohazard: You have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage.

Psychohazard: You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and you have resistance against psychic damage.

Power Backup: You remain conscious and aware of your surroundings when you are recharging, and can reactivate yourself even if you are not completely recharged. If you are reactivated in this way, you can not take bonus actions or reactions until you restart and finish your recharge. You can use this feature once per long rest.

Internal Functions

The Internal Functions are passive improvements to your body.

Darkvision: You have enhanced optics that allows you to see in dark and dim Conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in Darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in Darkness, only shades of gray.

Self-Stabilizing: At the beginning of your turn, if you are about to make a death saving throw, this feature is activated and you have advantage on death saving throws until you are stable. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Flexible Joints: Your body is prepared for more complex movements that any normal humanoid. Difficult terrain and stand up does not cost any extra movement. You can pass through the enemy space in combat, but moving 1 foot of enemy space cost 2 feet of speed. It still provokes opportunity attacks.

Playtest Material

This race was created thinking of both, the distinction that always characterized the Warforged, and simplicity when playing.
