Trickster Patron

You have made a pact with a powerful trickster, be it a fiend, fey, or god who revels in others’ confusion. Such beings live only to see others fall to their tricks, and are as likely to play tricks on you as you are on your enemies. Powerful tricksters include Loki, Scanlan, Dionysus, etc.

Expanded Spell List

The Trickster lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Spell Level Spell Name
1st Dissonant Whispers, Tasha’s Hideous Laughter
2nd Levitate, Phantasmal Force
3rd Bestow Curse, Blink
4th Confusion, Greater Invisibility
5th Dominate Person, Seeming

Eldritch Mockery

Starting at 1st level, you automatically learn the cantrip vicious mockery and it is added to the warlock spell list for you. Furthermore, any eldritch invocations you learn that would normally affect eldritch blast will now instead affect vicious mockery, and no longer affect eldritch blast. Your save DC when using vicious mockery increases by 2.

Cutting Words

Starting at 6th level, when a creature within 30 ft is targeted by an attack, you may attempt to distract the attacker as a reaction. Roll 1d8 and subtract that from the attack roll. You can choose to use this feature after the creature makes its roll, but before the DM determines whether the attack roll succeeds or not. The creature is immune if it can’t hear you or if it’s immune to being charmed. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum once). You regain all uses on a short or long rest.

Phantom Pain

Starting at 10th level, whenever a creature is hit by or fails a save against any illusion spell you cast, you may immediately target them with vicious mockery as a bonus action. The creature believes the illusion is the source of the damage, not you. You may repeat this ability every turn that the creature is under the illusion’s effect as a bonus action.

Enhanced Mockery

Starting at 14th level, the damage dice used for vicious mockery increases to a d10. In addition, once per round when you deal damage with vicious mockery, you may immediately teleport 20 ft without using an action, disappearing in a puff of violet smoke.

Trickster Eldritch Invocations

In addition to Eldritch Invocations granted by the PHB and other approved sources, the Trickster gains the following options:

Aspect of the Moon

Prerequisites: Trickster Patron lvl 5 or Archfey Patron lvl 2

You have gained the Maiden of the Moon’s favor. You no longer need to sleep and can’t be forced to sleep by any means. To gain the benefits of a long rest, you can spend all 8 hours doing light activity, such as reading and keeping watch.

Caiphon’s Beacon

Prerequisites: Trickster or Great Old One Patron

The purple star Caiphon is the doom of inexperienced mariners. Those who use its deceptive light to guide their travels invariably come to ruin. You gain proficiency in the Deception and Stealth skills, and you have advantage on attack rolls against charmed creatures.

Insult to Injury

Prerequisites: 9th level, Trickster Patron, Pact of the Chain feature

When you use vicious mockery as an action, you may direct your familiar to use its attack as a bonus action. The familiar must attack the same enemy targeted by vicious mockery.

Whispering Echoes

Prerequisites: 5th level, Trickster Patron

Your mockery summons forth a gateway between dimensions. When you successfully deal damage with the vicious mockery cantrip, you can cast hunger of hadar as a bonus action using a spell slot. However, this spell must be centered on the target of your vicious mockery attack.
