The Scepter of fallen stars.

In times long past in a world that no longer exists, there was a following, not of gods, but of their servants. The legends of these beings would become taboo with time and their worship made secretive to avoid persecution but with the laws of ancient kings as dust in the wind their are remains none who know the reasons the tools of these converts were so ferverently forbidden.

History

Legend tells of a conclave of powerful divine beings known only as the Stars. These creatures served a goddess of great wisdom and benevolence. This now forgotten goddess served as a being of justice and guidance for her worshippers and her clerics followed any path that would lead them to offer counsel; it was in this effort that the Stars served, each star was given to an area of expertise and when clerics prayed to their goddess it was these beings that answered their call on her behalf.

The beings were impeccable judges in each of their own domains and for ages the worshippers were able to rely on them for truthful and wise answers. Over time however, going unchallenged in their fields took a toll on the Stars. The Stars began to lie, offering answers based on their own agendas and views of how the flock should act rather than truth, knowing full well that not even their bretheren would question whatever answers each put forth.

Over time the corruption of the stars grew more absolute and eventually each had left behind the responsibilities of advisor and took the mantles of judges, shaping the world and it's peoples as they saw fit. When the goddess realized this deception she banished her Stars from the realms and stripped them of what righteous powers she could but since their assignment they had grown and developed powers beyond her manipulation and soon sought to form their own following using these powers.

This scepter is a not only a holy relic of these would-be gods, but perhaps the first their order ever created. It is said that each of the gods in turn blessed this tool and gave it the most minute fragment of their powers.

Appearance

This two and a half foot long scepter is dark as pitch and the gold laid within glimmers with a queer sheen in the light. The metal swoops and curves in a way that brings to mind the heavenly bodies of an umbral night and the motif on the disc atop the end is writ in strange, unfamilliar symbols.
