Pan

Pan is a faerie dragon, and Lyra's familiar. He was a gift to Lyra from her Archfey Patron Lord Hyrsam to seal their Pact. He is a cat-sized dragon with butterfly wings. He wears a sharp-toothed grin and expresses its delight by the twitching of his tail, his merriment fading only if he is attacked.

Invisible Trickster. The only warning of Pan's presence is a stifled giggle. He stays out of sight, watching invisibly as his victims contend with his pranks. When his fun is done, Pan might reveal himself, depending on the disposition of his "prey."

Friendly and Bright. Pan has a sharp
mind, a fondness for treasure and good company, and a puckish sense of humor. Characters can play to his draconic nature by offering him "treasure" in the form of sweets, baked goods, and baubles in exchange for information or safe passage.

The Colors of Age. Pan's scales change hue as he ages, moving through all the colors of the rainbow.

Superior Invisibility. As a bonus action, Pan can magically turn invisible until his concentration ends (as if concentrating on a spell). Any equipment he wears or carries is invisible with him.

Limited Telepathy. Using telepathy, Pan can magically communicate with any other faerie dragon within 60 feet of him.

Magic Resistance. Pan has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects. While Pan is within 10 feet of Lyra, she shares Pan's Magic Resistance trait.

Familiar. Pan can deliver touch spells as a reaction when within 100 ft of Lyra.


Voice of the Chain Master. Pan and Lyra can communicate telepathically with each other, and Lyra can perceive through Pan's senses as long as they are on the same plane of existence. Additionally, while perceiving through Pan's senses, Lyra can also speak through Pan in her own voice.

Pact of the Chain. When Lyra takes the Attack action, she can forgo one of her own attacks to allow Pan to allow Pan to make one attack of his own.

Innate Spellcasting. Pan's innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 14). He can innately cast the following spells once per day, requiring no material components: dancing lights, mage hand, minor illusion, color spray, mirror image.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5ft., one target. Hit 1 piercing damage.

Euphoria Breath (1/short rest). Pan exhales a puff of euphoria gas at one creature within 5 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw, or for 1 minute, the target can't take reactions and must roll a d6 at the start of each of its turns to determine its behavior during the turn:

  • 1-4. The target takes no action or bonus action and uses all of its movement to move in a random direction.
  • 5-6. The target doesn't move, and the only thing it can do on its turn is make a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Unfamiliar familiar

Pan is not a normal familiar, in two ways.

Firstly, due to the Pact of The Chain Warlock class feature he can attack in place of Lyra, and due to the Voice of the Chain Master Warlock invocation their telepathic link has unlimited range.

Secondly, he is a real flesh and blood faerie dragon that was gifted to Lyra from her Patron, rather than a magically summoned construct. As such, he is a bit tougher than normal familiars, but he cannot be dismissed to/from a pocket dimension, and if killed, cannot simply be re-conjured.

Pan is treated like a PC when it come to death and dying, and makes death saving throws as normal. If he does die, all is not lost however, as the magic of Lyra's Pact with her Patron will restore him in time.

To summon a resurrected Pan back from the Feywilde, Lyra must perform a ritual casting of Find Familiar at midnight, and beseech her Patron to return her beloved Pan to her. She can make a Charisma check, the DC equal to 20 minus the number of days Pan has been dead for. If the check is not successful, then Lyra can try again the following midnight. If the check is succesful, Pan is summoned back to the material plane. There is a cost to pay for his death, however, as he loses a level (see Pan's Level section).


Pan's Level

Pan has levels, like a PC, but they are based on Lyra's class level. Every time Lyra gains a Warlock level, Pan gains a level. However, every time Pan dies, when he returns, he has lost a level.
