Rogue Archetype: Malvole

Through cruel twists of fate, you have lost everything, and a greater power has seen fit to grant you means beyond mortal ability — what you do with it is up to you. The greater power may be a trickster deity, an Archfey, or the inscrutable machinations of a Great Old One.

Malvole Rogue Features

Spellcasting

When you choose this archetype at level three, you gain access to magical power; a boon granted by your benefactor.

Silent, Still, Empty Handed

In casting a spell you may choose to forego one of Verbal, Somatic, or Material components which are not consumed.

What was that Noise?

When you use your spellcasting to cause a distraction, you gain advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks. This includes using the Misty Vision invocation, casting Minor Image or casting Dancing Lights, making a door slam with Thaumaturgy, or setting a fire with Produce flame.

Cunning Caster

You may cast Cantrips or use Eldrich Invocations as part of your Cunning Action feature.

Cantrips

At third level, you learn one of Produce Flame, Thaumaturgy, or True Strike. You learn additional Malvole Cantrips of your choice at higher levels, as shown in the Malvole Spellcasting table. Every time you gain another Cantrip, you may also swap one Cantrip you know for one from the Malvole spell list.

Spells Known of 1st Level or Higher

At third level, you know three 1st level spells from the Malvole spell list. Consult the Malvole Spellcasting table for information on when, how many, and what the maximum allowed level is

Each time you level up you may swap a spell you know for another spell you can cast on the Malvole spell list.

Spell Slots

All your spell slots are of the same level, as indicated by the Spell Slot Level column of the Malvole Spellcasting table. You regain all spent spell slots when you finish a short or long rest.

Spellcasting Ability

Charisma is your spellcasting ability for the Malvole Rogue Archetype.

Spell save DC = 8 + your charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus
Spell attack modifier = your charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus

Eldrich Invocations

You learn the Ghostly Leap invocation at level three, and additional invocations at higher levels as indicated by the Malvole Spellcasting table

You have access to the following Eldrich invocations which are also available to the warlock class:

  • Armor of Shadows
  • Ascendant Step*
  • Beast Speech
  • Devil's Sight
  • Eldritch Sight
  • Fiedish Vigor
  • Mask of Many Faces*
  • Misty Visions*
  • One With Shadows
  • Otherworldly Leap*
  • Visions of Distant Realms
  • Whispers of the Grave

* Requires level 9   † Requires level 13   ‡ Requires level 17

Each time you level up, you may choose to swap an Eldrich invocation you know for one from the above or below list, which you fulfill the requirements for.

Lack of Features?

The Malvole archetype derives all its power from spellcasting. Whereas other rogue archetypes gain features at levels 9, 13, and 17, the Malvole simply gains more Cantrips, spell slots, spells known, and evocations.
