Session Zero Notes

Below are the parameters which need to be established in Session Zero. Replace the question-asking text under each heading as that topic is addressed.

Campaign Type

Notes about the type and style of the game.

Primary Structure

Chapter-based, include backgrounds, building up links/threads over time (Blue Sun, etc). Not too sandboxy, clear paths to pursue, but with options available. "Hook menu".

Theming

Mini-themes or temporary themes preferred. Maybe avoid seafaring, not too many HP-sack monsters, include some encounters that could be talked out of.

Style

At least one true dungeon crawl, maybe a variety otherwise. Pretty open on that.

Tone

Start kind of neutral, feel it out as we go. Not sure how much heroism or "hard choices" we might want to go for, so we'll wing it.

Starting in northern Esbiva.

Boundaries

Notes about what is and is not off-limits.

Content Limits

(I won't include any sexual violence.) Avoid excessively graphic violence. Brothels and other sexytimes are fade-to-fireplace.

Player versus Player

Flavor level, nothing too serious, take it on a case-by-case basis, always including player consent.

Subgroups, where some PCs already know each other, then the campaign brings the 2-3 groups together into a single party.

The Player Characters

And here is the party:

Rachel: PP 12 Niefta (High Elf Wiz/BARB sage) Grew up in Damprock, Tomodur then traveled to Wotto to join magic academy, then got kicked out. Pacifist when possible. Headed to Esbiva in hopes of joining a different school, freelances in scholastic fields. Went to school with Enoch in Wotto.

Will: PP 13 Lifter (Human Fighter/ROGUE criminal) His halfling mother died in childbirth. Father eaten by a dire catfish. Traveling north with [BRAD] from a larger city in southern Esbiva.

Terry: PP 11 Enoch Root (Dwarf Bard archaeologist) From Kern, Tomodur, where he's associated with a university of some sort. Supremely curious, especially about the past. Traveled to Esbiva to do research on ancient gnomes (personal research for a book). Went to school with Niefta in Wotto.

Brad: PP 14 Finley DeBasher (Bugbear Fighter criminal) Originally from Esbiva, traveling north from a larger city with Hale to flee some minor trouble. Mercenary and gambler.

Josh: PP 10 Kelzar (Triton Hexblade/BARD entertainer) In Esbiva as a traveling showman (sword juggling, stunts).

Chris: PP 9/13 Huck (Gnome wizard guild artisan) Inquisitive, wants to be a detective, is from Bengolyn in Esbiva. Family is respectable merchants.
