Birchblossom Arrows

Centuries ago a hunter roamed the lands of Barovia fighting neither for nor against the Devil Strahd, working only for himself and striking deals with whomever was necessary for his survival. These arrows were the product of one such deal with the ancestors of the druids of Yester Hill.

Appearance

These magic arrows are made of a durable yet brittle material similar in texture to porcelain that is icy cold to the touch. Aside from the bizarre substance it's constructed from the arrows seem perfectly mundane when handled outside of a combat situation, however upon being drawn with intent to kill their magical nature is revealed. Upon being unsheathed with a violent thought in the wielder's mind it begins to draw energy from the land around it wilting all mundane vegetation within five feet of the user.

Capabilities

When a target is hit by this arrow the spell triggers causing the subject's bones to grow thick thorn-like protrusions dealing an extra 3d6 piercing damage and paralyzing the target for 1 minute. At the beginning of the target's turn they may choose to make a DC 15 constitution saving throw, on a successful save the target is no longer paralyzed but takes 3d12 bludgeoning damage as it snaps the protrusions. If the effect ends naturally the target takes no damage. A target cannot be affected by two of these arrows at the same time. Creatures without bones are unaffected by the special effects of this weapon.
