In the world of Reannus, the elves are creatures that have an innate connection to the flow of magic. Meanwhile, humans are mostly unaffected by magic as the magic mostly flows around them. This means that when the traits of a Human and Elf are combined, they create a being whose existence disrupts the flow of magic. For this reason Half Elves are widely hated among the elvish communities for their “disruption of the natural order”.
In addition to this, their ancestry often tends to leave a mark on a half-elf. This mark has lead to them widely being referred to as the Branded in Reannus. A Branded's mark varies widely between individual but it is usually related to the magic in the place where they were born. Most Branded take care to hide their brand as showing it to another can often lead to a Branded's death. Being able to see the mark of a branded is a true sign of trust among the individuals.
Humans, due to their lack of innate connection to magic, do not mind them as much as the elves do. Human spellcasters often dislike them as they make it more difficult to cast magic but the hatred does not extend to full on persecution and witch-hunts. For this reason most Half- Elves who live within society live in areas that are mostly populated by humans. However many hide their identities as branded for fear of persecution should spellcasters or elves happen upon the area.
Though not widely known (for obvious reasons) settlements of Branded do exist. They are usually in discrete locations and keep to themselves. However a terrible fate awates those in these settlements should elves come to find them. For these reasons, many branded take up the lifestyle of adventurers out of necessity and not out of desire.
Elves despise Branded and believe them to be the source of many misfortunes. For these reasons, Branded who make themselves known to Elves often find themselves persecuted and even put to death.
Because of their lack of an innate connection to magic, most Humans cannot detect the identity of a half elf mearly by their precense alone. However many of them are still weary of them and so Branded will often make an effort to hide their identities in Human Society
Dwarves are not very fond of magic and as such many Branded can often find refuge in Dwarven Societies. The typical response a Branded hears from a Dwarf regarding their heritage is defined by apathy.
While other races may dislike or not care about the Branded, Tieflings tend to sympathise with the Branded due to their similar histories. For this reason many Branded find Sanctuary in Esilia.

The branded mature about as fast as humans and reach adulthood around the age of 20. They live much longer than humans, however, often exceeding 180 years should they be allowed to live for such a time.
Branded tend more towards the chaotic end of the chart due to their widespread persecution in lawful society. However there is no innate preference to good versus evil.
