# Way of the Thunderous Fist
Monks of the Way of the Thunderous Fist use their ki to channel the power of the storm within them. Though this storm is wild and unpredictable, these monks are able to temper that chaos and empower a punch with the force of a thunderclap and move with the speed of a lightning bolt. The training necessary to do so is rigorous, more so than any other martial art. Due to the immense physical strain typical of this training, monks that follow this path tend to favor brawn over finesse.

### Hardened Physique Compared to the hardships you endured in your training, your enemies’ blows are like the bite of a flea. When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you may add your Strength modifier in place of your Dexterity modifier for your AC and Deflect Blows feature. You only gain this benefit while not wearing armor or using a shield. ### Booming Fist Also at 3rd level, you can, as a bonus action, spend 1 ki point to have your next punch send out a powerful shockwave. The next time you hit a creature with an unarmed attack, each creature within 10ft of you must make a Constitution saving throw. The creature, along with any creature that failed the save, takes 3d4 thunder damage. This damage increases as your Martial Arts die increases. ### Surging lariat Starting at 6th level, you move with lightning speed, mowing down any in your path. When you take the Dash action, you can choose to forgoe the extra movement that the action gives you. Until the end of your turn, oportunity attacks made against you have disadvantage, and you can move through the space of another creature as if it were difficult terrain. Any creature whose space you move through must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone. ### Static Shield Beginning at 11th level, you have resistance to lightning and thunder damage. Additionally, you can send out small waves of ki to counteract the force of your opponent's attacks. As a reaction to being hit with a melee attack, you can spend ki points to reduce the damage of the attack by one martial arts die for each point spent. You can spend a maximum number of ki points equal to your proficiency bonus. ### Master of The Storm You have absolute control over the raging storm within you, and can call upon it's unabated power. At 17th level, you gain the following benefits: - When a creature makes a saving throw against your Booming Fist or Surging Lariat features, you can spend an additional ki point to impose disadvantage on the saving throw - Any creature that fails the saving throw of your Surging Lariat takes 4d10 lightning damage, or half damage on a success. - When you use your Static Shield feature to reduce the damage of a melee attack, the attacker takes lightning damage equal to the amount of damage reduced.
