# Weavedancer A muscular tiefling flips and pirouettes across the dance floor of a nobleman’s ballroom, spewing gouts of flame into the air as he whirls a staff overhead, holding the small party of private diners spellbound while his allies sneak through the manor. In the midst of a raucous party, a laughing dwarf twirls in place, whipping her elaborate braids about her in a blur, their tips tugging an illusory spell from the fabric of the Weave. As an approaching hobgoblin army crests a nearby hill, a towering silver dragonborn performs the war dance of their clan, freezing the air along the threads of the Weave until they coalesce into a roaring storm riddled with deadly shards of ice. Whether for entertainment, enchantment, or embattlement, weavedancers couple the intense study of ancient arcane dances with the precision and dedicated practice necessary to execute their movements, manipulating the Weave itself to shape the world around them. ### Magical Movements Though there are myriad forms of dance in the world, and countless performers of those styles, few among them can boast the knowledge, power, and precision of Weavedancers. While common practitioners of the art of dance can be found luxuriating in the bars and bedrooms of their admirers after a performance, a weavedancer spends their free moments with their nose in a book or practicing their steps before a mirror, or otherwise sitting back with needle and thread in hand, idly picking threads from the Weave. A weavedancer combines peerless quickness and grace with strong connections to the Weave, augmenting their physical prowess and drawing magic from the world around them through elaborate waltzes, foxtrots, and sambas. Lithe and agile, they skip across the battlefield wielding whips, sickles, or quarterstaffs, relying on their quickness and grace to elude the blows of their foes. But when more is required, they draw on their bonds with the Weave to perform incredible feats. Though knowledge is key to the work of all weavedancers, the true art lies in the execution. Hours of study mean nothing without honing one’s mind and body to an edge fine enough to perform the complicated maneuvers necessary to extract magic from the Weave. Coupled with the requisite confidence to toy with the Weave in the first place, plunging into the unknown where others refrain, weavedancers cut a bold figure in many arenas. ### Wreathed in the Weave Weavedancers outfit themselves in the Weave, spending long hours perfecting their touch with their weaver’s tools. Through this practice, they sew threads of the Weave into the fabric of their clothing and equipment, costuming themselves in arcane energy that they can call on when they most need it. ___ ``` ```

These bonds require expert artisanship and frequent maintenance, often unraveling after a particularly taxing encounter. As they grow more comfortable working with the substance of the Weave, they’re able to don and swap between their arcane costumes with ease, shifting between three established styles of dance — Boa, Fan, and Pole — each flavored with flourishes called Weavesteps. Weavedancers can be found at the heart of the entertainment scene in sprawling metropolises, or marching in the ranks of an army, weaving through the battlefield, or practicing in the hallowed halls of magic academies, or, in many cases, dancing into the hearts of a band of adventurers destined for glory. ### Creating a Weavedancer Weavedancers are naturally drawn to adventuring, as traveling and immersing themselves in new cultures and civilizations is one of the most fruitful ways to discover new styles of dance.

When you create your weavedancer, think about what dancing means to your character and how that manifestation relates to their personality. Are you a master of sultry, measured movements? Do you dazzle onlookers with amazing acrobatic maneuvers akin to breakdancing? Or can you be found leading a line dance with a smile on your face? Are you from a culture that practices dances of war, of weather, or of spirituality? Are you constantly striking poses, or is your calling given away only by the subtle pep in your step? Think about how you use your abilities beyond the scope of dancing itself. Do you dance to win over the crowd in an upscale social club, or to intimidate ruffians with the quickness of your movements? Or do you keep them hidden, preferring nondescript composure to flamboyance? #### Quick Build You can make a weavedancer quickly by following these suggestions. First, Charisma and Dexterity should be your highest ability scores, followed by Constitution or Intelligence. \page ### Dancer's Finesse While you are wearing no armor and not wielding a shield, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Charisma modifier. ___ In addition, your natural grace coupled with countless hours of practice grants you the ability to wield certain weapons with uncanny agility. Sickles have the finesse property when you wield them, provided that you are wielding a separate sickle in each hand, and quarterstaffs have the finesse property when you wield them, provided you are wielding it with both hands. ### Weavedance In battle, you wrap yourself in the threads of the Weave, granting you unmatched grace and agility. On your turn, you can begin a Dance as a bonus action, provided that you aren't wearing armor or using a shield. Your Dance lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are incapacitated, if you don armor or a shield, or if your turn ends and your speed has been 0 since the end of your last turn. You can also end your Dance at any time you choose (no action required). While Dancing, you gain the following benefits: - You have advantage on Dexterity checks and Dexterity saving throws. - When you make a melee weapon attack with a weapon that has the finesse property, you gain a bonus to the damage roll that increases as you gain levels as a weavedancer, as shown in the Dance Damage column of the Weavedancer table. You can use this feature twice. You regain all expended uses of it when you finish a short or long rest. ### Expertise At 2nd level, choose two of your skill proficiencies, or your proficiency in the disguise kit or weaver's tools. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses either of the chosen proficiencies. At 10th level, you can choose two more of your proficiencies (in skills or with the disguise kit or weaver's tools) to gain this benefit. ### Dancing Style When you reach 3rd level, you master a dancing style: Boa Dancing, Fan Dancing, or Pole Dancing, all detailed later in the class description. Each dancing style gains features at 3rd level that grow in power at 6th, 11th, and 17th level. When you gain the Costume Change feature at 5th level, you will be able to make use of more than one Dancing Style. ### Weavesteps Also at 3rd level, your study of the arcane and your mastery of movement grants you new insight into the nature of the Weave, allowing you to perform precise flourishes that manipulate the Weave around you. ``` ``` > ##### Weavesteps, Dancing Styles, and Costume Change > Getting the most out of your weavedancer requires an understanding of how these three features — Weavesteps, Dancing Styles, and Costume Change — work in tandem. > > When you gain new Weavesteps for your current Dancing Style, you will want to note your choices for the other two styles as well, so that you can shift between them with ease and get back into the action. > > For example, a 5th-level weavedancer, on learning the Costume Change feature, might denote their Weavesteps and Dancing Styles as: > > - **Boa Dancer:** Dance of the Dead, Shadow Dance > - **Fan Dancer:** Temporal Twist, Warden's Waltz > - **Pole Dancer:** Electric Slide, Fabric Fandango > Then, on gaining a third Weavestep at 7th level, they might decide that they enjoy Temporal Twist so much that they wish to add it to their other two Dancing Styles, then select another option for Fan Dancer, like so: > - **Boa Dancer:** Dance of the Dead, Shadow Dance, Temporal Twist > - **Fan Dancer:** Temporal Twist, Warden's Waltz, Seismic Stomp > - **Pole Dancer:** Electric Slide, Fabric Fandango, Temporal Twist You gain two Weavesteps of your choice for each of your Dancing Styles (Boa, Fan, and Pole) from the options detailed at the end of the class description. When you gain certain weavedancer levels, you gain additional Weavesteps of your choice for each of your Dancing Styles, as shown in the Weavesteps Per Style column of the weavedancer table. Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the Weavesteps you know and replace it with another for each of your Dancing Styles. #### Step Points Many of the flourishes contained within Weavesteps require you to expend considerable physical and mental energy, represented by a number of Step Points. Your weavedancer level determines the number of points you have, as shown in the Step Points column of the weavedancer table. When you expend a Step Point, it is unavailable until you finish a short or long rest. You must spend at least 30 minutes of the rest mending your connection to the Weave with your weaver's tools to regain your Step Points. > ##### Spellcasting & Material Components > **No Material Components Required.** Spells gained from this class do not require material components to cast; your meticulous mending of your connection to the Weave allows you to pull magic directly from the source.

\page Some of your features require your target to make a saving throw, or require you to make a spell attack. The saving throw DC and spell attack modifier are calculated as follows: ___ **Step Save DC** = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier ___ **Spell attack modifier** = your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier ___ **Empowered Steps.** Once you reach 5th level in this class, you can spend additional Step Points to increase the level of a spell you cast with one of your Weavesteps, provided that the spell has an enhanced effect at a higher level. The spell’s level increases by 1 for each additional Step Point you spend. The maximum Step Points you can spend to cast a spell in this way (including its base Step Point cost and any additional Step Points you spend to increase its level or otherwise alter it, as in your One with the Weave feature) is determined by your Dancer level, as shown in the Spells and Step Points table below. ##### Spells and Step Points | Weavedancer Levels | Maximum Step Points for a Spell | |:----:|:------------:| | 5th-8th | 3 | | 9th-12th | 4 | | 13th-16th | 5 | | 17th-20th | 6 | ### Ability Score Improvement When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th, and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature. ``` ``` ### Costume Change Starting at 5th level, you gain the ability to shift from your current Dancing Style to another. When you take a long rest, you may spend 1 hour during the rest adjusting your connections to the Weave, allowing you to change from your current Dancing Style to one of the other Dancing Styles available to you. You can also draw on your knowledge of the Weave to rapidly change Dancing Styles. As an action, you can shift from one Dancing Style to another. You can do this a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus. At 13th level, you can change Dancing Styles during a short rest, or as an action a number of times per day equal to your Performance modifier. At 18th level, you can change Dancing Styles an unlimited number of times per day, and you can do so as a bonus action. #### Costume Change and Dancing Styles When you shift from one Dancing Style to another with Costume Change, you immediately lose all benefits from your current Dancing Style and lose access to its corresponding Weavesteps, replacing them with the benefits and known Weavesteps of your new Dancing Style. If you are Dancing when you use your Costume Change, your weapon shifts to take the form appropriate to your new Dancing Style. In addition, using Costume Change does not cancel the effects of any spells cast from your previous Dancing Style, nor does it break your concentration. ### Evasion At 7th level, your instinctive agility lets you dodge out of the way of certain area effects, such as a blue dragon's lightning breath or a *fireball* spell. When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail.

\page ### Fluid Movement Starting at 9th level, you can attempt to escape from a grapple effect as a bonus action, and you have advantage on ability checks made to do so. In addition, creatures have disadvantage on attempts to grapple you, including attacks that automatically grapple a creature on a hit. While Dancing, you ignore difficult terrain and can pass through the space of hostile creatures. You must end your turn in an unoccupied space. ### One with the Weave By 10th level, your body and mind are inextricably linked to the Weave. When you cast a spell while Dancing that has a casting time of 1 action, you can expend additional Step Points (1 for a cantrip, 2 for a spell of 1st level or higher) to change the casting time to 1 bonus action for this casting. Step Points spent in this way contribute to the maximum number of Step Points you can spend in a single casting as determined by the Spells and Step Points table earlier in this class description. ___ In addition, when you are targeted by a spell while Dancing that affects only you and requires a saving throw, you can expend a number of Step Points equal to half the level of the spell (rounded down) to give yourself advantage on the saving throw. On a successful save, you can redirect the spell as a reaction. You suffer none of the spell’s effects, and you can select a new target within 60 feet of you, using your Step Save DC. ### Unyielding Grace By 14th level, you are the picture of physical and social grace. Whenever you make a Dexterity or Charisma ability check, you can treat a d20 roll of 9 or lower as a 10. ### Dancing Master Starting at 20th level, you can Dance an unlimited number of times per day, and when you roll initiative and have no Step Points remaining, you regain 4 Step Points. ## Dancing Styles Unlike most adventurers, weavedancers do not specialize in a chosen path, school, college, or the like. Rather, all weavedancers can expect to learn and utilize the three most common dancing styles — Boa, Fan, and Pole — though they may develop a preference for one over the others. Via their Costume Change feature, weavedancers learn early in their careers how to determine and deploy the best dancing style for a given scenario. ### Boa Dancing Weavedancers who favor the Boa Style are often skilled with a whip and tend to keep their distance in combat, baiting their opponents into disadvantageous positions. They decorate themselves and their equipment with bejeweled garments, brilliant jewelry, and many-hued fringes. Many fashion their whips out of the tails of exotic creatures, from chimeras and manticores to dragon wyrmlings and fiends. Others seek even more creative materials, such as beholder eyestalks or the tentacles of foul aberrations. ___ #### Weave Whip At 3rd level, you learn how to pull a magical whip from the Weave while you are Dancing in this style, provided that you are wielding a finesse weapon in one hand and no other weapons at the beginning and for the duration of your Dance. When you begin Dancing, your weapon takes on the form and properties of a magical *+1 whip*, retaining any magical properties from the original weapon. If your original weapon has a +1, +2, or +3 bonus when it takes the form of your magical whip, use whichever bonus is higher. Starting at 11th level, your Weave Whip becomes a magical *+2 whip*, and at 17th level, it becomes a magical *+3 whip*. #### Striker's Strut Also at 3rd level, you master a boa dance known as the Striker's Strut. You know the *thorn whip* cantrip and you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *ensnaring strike*. In addition, when you hit a creature with an attack with your whip while Dancing, you can expend 1 Step Point to attempt to perform one of the following maneuvers: - **Disarming Attack.** You attempt to disarm the target. It must make a Strength saving throw or drop the object you choose. The object lands at its feet. - **Distracting Strike.** You distract the target. The next attack roll against it by an attacker other than you has advantage if the attack is made before the start of your next turn. - **Goading Attack.** You attempt to goad the target. It must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the target has disadvantage on all attack rolls against targets other than you until the end of your next turn. - **Trip Attack.** You attempt to knock down a Large or smaller target. It must make a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. #### Extra Attack Beginning at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. ### Fan Dancing Weavedancers who favor the Fan Style tend to carry two weapons, often a pair of sickles, but sometimes shortswords, scimitars, daggers, or other light weapons. They decorate these weapons with feathers plucked from roosters, turkeys, or ostriches, striving over the course of their careers for more and more exotic feathers. Stories even exist of legendary Weavedancers wielding fans with feathers of roc, angel, cockatrice, and couatl. #### Bladed Fans At 3rd level, you learn how to pull a magical pair of elegant, bladed fans from the Weave while you are Dancing in this style, provided that you are wielding two separate one-handed weapons at the beginning and for the duration of your Dance.

\page When you begin Dancing, your weapons take on the form and properties of a pair of magical fans, retaining any magical properties from the original weapon(s). Your Bladed Fans weigh 3 lbs apiece, they have the light and finesse properties, and they deal 1d6 slashing damage on a hit. If the damage dice of your original weapons is higher, use that instead. At 6th level, the damage dice of your fans increases to 1d8. At 11th level, they increase to 1d10, and at 17th level, they increases to 1d12. #### Fanblade Foxtrot Also at 3rd level, you master a fan dance known as the Fanblade Foxtrot. You know the *sword burst* cantrip and you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *thunderwave*. In addition, when you begin Dancing, you can expend 1 Step Point to gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed for the duration of the Dance. If you end your turn in the air while flying, you descend as if affected by the *feather fall* spell. #### Two-Weapon Fighting Style Starting at 6th level, when you engage in two-weapon fighting, you can add your ability modifier to the damage of the second attack. ### Pole Dancing Weavedancers who favor the Pole Style tend to put on the most athletic displays of their cohort, leaping incredible distances with the aid of their sturdy quarterstaffs. They pine after staffs made from the rarest materials, hunting the multiverse for beautiful, impressive horns, teeth, and claws. Unicorn horns are a particular delight, as are the horns of fiends and dragons. #### Extendable Staff At 3rd level, you learn how to pull a magical quarterstaff from the Weave while you are Dancing in this style, provided that you are wielding a versatile weapon in both hands at the beginning and for the duration of your Dance. When you begin Dancing, your weapon takes on the form and properties of a magical quarterstaff, retaining any magical properties from the original weapon. The reach of your Extendable Quarterstaff is 10 feet. At 11th level, its reach increases to 20 feet, and at 17th level, its reach increases to 30 feet. #### Pole Vault Polka Also at 3rd level, you master a pole dance known as the Pole Vault Polka. You know the *shillelagh* cantrip and you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *jump* on yourself. In addition, when you begin Dancing, you can expend 1 Step Point to greatly increase your jump distance. For the duration of the Dance, your jump distance is determined by your Charisma score rather than your Strength score, and that distance is doubled as long as you are wielding a versatile weapon with both hands. #### Extra Attack Beginning at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. ``` ``` ## Weavesteps #### Arctic Allemande You know the *frostbite* cantrip. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 3rd level, you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *ice knife*. At 13th level, you can expend 4 Step Points to cast *ice storm*, and at 17th level, you can end your Dance early and expend 6 Step Points to cast *investiture of ice*. #### Dance of the Dead You know the *chill touch* cantrip. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 3rd level, you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *false life*, at 10th level, you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *animate dead*, and at 17th level, you can end your Dance early and spend 6 Step Points to cast *create undead*. When you use Costume Change to shift to a Dancing Style without this Weavestep, any undead under your control immediately become hostile toward you and your allies. #### Electric Slide You know the *lightning lure* cantrip. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 3rd level, you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *witch bolt*, at 10th level, you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *lightning bolt*, and at 17th level, you can end your Dance early and expend 6 Step Points to cast *chain lightning*. #### Fabric Fandango You gain proficiency in the Arcana skill. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast expend 1 Step Point to cast *detect magic*, and at 10th level you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *counterspell* or *dispel magic*. #### Flaming Flamenco You know the *produce flame* cantrip. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 3rd level, you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *burning hands*, at 10th level, you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *fireball*, and at 17th level, you can end your Dance early and expend 6 Step Points to cast *investiture of flame*. #### Flighty Freestyle You know the *gust* cantrip. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 7th level, you can expend 2 Step Points to cast *gust of wind*, at 10th level, you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *fly* on yourself, and at 17th level, you can end your Dance early and expend 6 Step Points to cast *investiture of wind*. #### Seismic Stomp You know the *magic stone* and *mold earth* cantrips. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 3rd level, you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *earth tremor*, at 10th level, you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *erupting earth*, and at 17th level, you can end your Dance early and expend 6 Step Points to cast *investiture of stone*.

\page #### Shadow Dance You gain proficiency in the Stealth skill. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. You double your proficiency bonus in the Stealth skill, you can Hide as a bonus action, and starting at 7th level, you can expend 2 Step Points to cast *invisibility* on yourself. #### Slippery Samba When you make your first attack on your turn, you can choose to attack cautiously. Doing so gives you disadvantage on melee weapon attack rolls during this turn, but attack rolls against you have disadvantage until the start of your next turn. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 7th level, you can expend 2 Step Points to cast *mirror image*, and at 10th level, you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *blur*. #### Suggestive Samba You gain proficiency in the Deception and Persuasion skills. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 7th level, you can expend 2 Step Points to cast *enthrall* or *suggestion*, and at 10th level you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *hypnotic pattern*. #### Temporal Twist You add your Charisma bonus to your Initiative rolls. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 3rd level, you can Dash as a bonus action, you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *longstrider* on yourself, and at 10th level, you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *haste* on yourself. #### Traveler’s Trot Your movement speed increases by 10 feet. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 7th level, you can expend 2 Step Points to cast *pass without trace*, at 13th level, you can expend 4 Step Points to cast *freedom of movement*, and at 15th level, you can expend 5 Step Points to cast *passwall*. #### Warden’s Waltz You know the *blade ward* cantrip. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits. Starting at 3rd level, you can expend 1 Step Point to cast *shield*, at 7th level, you can expend 3 Step Points to cast *warding wind*, and at 13th level, you can expend 4 Step Points to cast *stoneskin* on yourself. #### Weaving Waltz You can Disengage as a bonus action. While Dancing, you gain additional benefits.
