\page # The United Territories of Cartuccia ## Far to the west... So far that one would think they would fall off the edge of the material plane, lays a large continent. Nearly six hundred years ago it was discovered by chance of a supernatural hurricane blowing a tribe of Aarakocra far across the Sea of Swords and the Trackless Sea. Eventually settled, **Cartuccia** as it would come to be named, is now a land brimming with magic and wonder, where the rich and headstrong gamble their fortunes to pull ahead. The Central Chondathian Company, a massive trading company synonymous with the government of Chondath, funded and supported the Aarakocra tribe, forming the Cartuccian Empire. That all changed when a certain group of the CC Company's soldiers nearly massacred a group of lowly workers in the young colony's capital. Summoned by the spirit of the people and the great potential of Cartuccia, a pair of mighty goddesses appeared and demanded the Emperor protect their chosen people and deny these oppressors their continued presence. The Emperor obliged and became the **Torchlight**, leading his citizens to victory in a hard-fought uprising. Since gaining independence, Cartuccia has grown steadily, its five hundred year history focused toward westward expansion, settlement of the land, and the individual pursuit of happiness. ### Nation Features #### Highly Diverse Cartuccia contains the best and the worst of civilization. All the world's races, creeds, and goals are represented in the population. #### Highly advanced magically and mechanically. Cartuccia is covered by a thick blanket of raw magical energy that bleeds in from the outer plains. Extremely difficult to utilize for common magic, advancements in magitech have instead made leaps and bounds by harnessing this power. Practitioners of magic are still uncommon, but devices powered by Galva conductor-harnessed latent magic are commercially available. The industrial revolution in Cartuccia has led to it becoming a major contender in the powers of Toril. Because of this advancement, life is often terribly comfortable compared to that in many nations of Faerûn and beyond, at least for those who can afford it... #### Chaotic but Settled Cartuccia may be a confederacy of territories lead by its governors and Torchlight, but cities, settlements, and territories all have their own senses of culture and justice. In the last couple of centuries, westward exploration has slowed to a crawl, the threats of unknown dangers and the complacency of comfort reducing interest in exploration. Regardless, most of Cartuccia's settled territories still have swathes of unexplored ground and adventure to be found, a credit to just how vast and unknown the land is.

## Closer to home... You will begin your journey in 1494 DR, Cartuccia's 491st year of independence, almost halfway through the reign of the current Torchlight, **Hikkoriik**. More specifically in Puerto Aetharno, a territory on the southeastern edge of the continent. Puerto Aetharno is a small sun-kissed and diverse-terrained section of land that surrounds a glittering bay and archipelago. First settled by gnomes and halflings, the local culture is built off of their laid-back, friendly ways. The current governor is the son of a clan of Dwarves who have since controlled the territory. This family's leadership has turned Puerto Aetharno into a bustling nexus of leisure and tourism for those who can afford the travel to the region. Foreign nobles, fortune-seekers, and workers mix with the local flavor, old and new clashing against each other. **This campaign** will involve a group of petty criminals, rogues, and general troublemakers seeking their fortune and rising to greatness in Puerto Aetharno, using its many affluent citizens and visitors as springboards to their own comfort. Though they may be dwelling in the gutters of society, a certain small party of rogues have devised a plan to get their way into the high crust of those on the wrong side of the law. ##### Cartuccia's Founding: A Brief History ***found in a pile of papers dropped by a busy student in the College of Lore's dormitories in Oprey, Lordston on 26th Kythorn, 1492 DR*** *The history of **Cartuccia** is, in all accounts, short but sweet. In the year 927 life was progressing as normal in Faerûn. Kings were crowned, land explored, and lives lived. Our story begins during the Year of the Rain in 927 DR, the Year of the Red Rain. The titular event had begun, and the Sword Mountains were experiencing a supernatural hurricane of bloody rain and viscera-stained winds. A tribe of Aarakocra who inhabited the peaks of the mountain range were quickly blown off by this massive storm, which soon grew to engulf the entirety of the Sword Coast. Despite their best efforts, the tribe was blown out to sea, where they were battered around, sometimes staying alight, sometimes doing their best to stay afloat, for many months. Eventually, an enormous tree was spotted by one of the folk, and the tribe finally found land. A massive birch tree, what we now know as the **White Perch**, rose above a massive swamp, which the Aarakocra immediately took as shelter. Now, we haven't managed to get a straight answer out of any government officials in our years of research, but many of us historians believe that over the next few years the tribe met and discussed arrangements with the native **Dragonborn**. Though their possible agreement is lost to time, when members of other races began to emigrate to the new land, the Dragonborn had already began their retreat westward. And so, after gaining a steady perch for their talons, the Aarakocra managed to contact a kingdom in Faerûn, that of the merchant nation of Chondath. Immediately claiming the rights to dibs on the new land, the Chondathian government (a kingdom almost synonymous with the powerful **Central Chondathian Company**) immediately formed an alliance with the Aarakocra, promising funding, supplies, and warm bodies to settle this new land in return for a majority share of the governing power of the new nation. The CC. Company began a great migration of settlers to work and live in the new land-mostly Chondathian humans, but a mix of all kinds overall. The Aarakocra provided safe passage, using their innate knowledge of the secrets of the air to guide ships safely over the months-long journey. Civilization grew in the new land, dubbed **New Chondath** by the settlers. The swamp surrounding the great birch tree was paved over by dwarven stonemasons and skilled laborers from the distant regions of Faerûn began their businesses, construction warehouses and trading houses to send novelties and new goods back to Faerûn. After a few decades, the area around the White Perch began to stagnate in business as the majority of the population remained unskilled laborers. the CC. Company reboubled its efforts and began to send its lowest- peasants and lawbreakers destined for hard labor and death-to be used as fodder for discovery and harvesting new product to refine and sell in Faerûn. This treatment of the common man in Cartuccia (named as such around this time) continued for another 50 years before the growing anger and suffering of the common man exploded in a divine event- the first 4th of Flamerule. On the fourth of Flamerule in 1003 DR, seventy-six years after the Aarakocra tribe discovered the new continent, a fateful confrontation occurred in the streets of White Perch. For weeks, an important shipping warehouse of the Central Chondathian Company had been beset upon by a series of misfortunes. Stock gone missing, rats devouring shipments of textiles waiting to be shipped, and so on. This warehouse employed some of the most destitute in the city. On the evening of the fourth, a fire broke out inside the warehouse and quickly grew to consume the whole building. The CC. Company lieutenant who ran the place was furious, and called the nearest law enforcement officers to punish the workers, who he thought had purposefully set the fire. As the workers were lined up and the first guard unfastened his whip to deliver beatings, a rock soared from the crowd of workers, striking a guard in the face. The resulting massacre was quick and bloody.* *But the blood was stopped. Unbeknownst to the workers and their abusers, the emperor of Cartuccia, **Grakki**, was flying above with his entourage on his way to a social gathering. Noticing the commotion, he stopped to observe the events. As a lieutenant put a bullet between the eyes of a dirty and toothless worker, he paused. He had heard of the disregard that his benefactors and partners, the powerful Central Chondathian Company, held for the common man. His predecessor, his father, had told him not to worry about it as cruelty was sometimes necessary to ensure a functional society. Grakki stopped to mull if his father's words held merit.* *And the clouds began to billow.* *And the sea began to bubble.* *Incredibly, a pair of colossal humanoids appeared. A pair of women revealed themselves. A noble and sharp seemingly human woman dressed in the vibrant colors of the evening Flamerule sky fell from the air, landing gracefully on the ruins of the burned warehouse. A slight and rougher-looking high elven woman had risen from the sea, garbed in seafoam commoner's robes and wearing a crown of thorns. The city went quiet in shock for the seconds before the skyborn figure turned herself to face Grakki directly and addressed him.* *As the seaborn goddess suddenly moved to snatch up the murderous lieutenants, the skyborn introduced herself as **Columbia**, the new goddess of Cartuccia, and her sister **Ellistine** as the goddess of its people. She demanded Grakki rise up against the oppression of the CC Company. For too long the rights of the countless poor shipped over to perform labor had gone undefended, generations of emperors turning a blind eye to the gross violation of good. She demanded that he fight for a future of choice and possibility for his people. Become the champion and servant of both her and Cartuccia's people, or perish under the same revolution directed towards himself. After seconds that seemed like hours, Grakki shot down towards the lieutenants desperately striking at Ellistine's assault and defended his citizens personally, becoming the first **Torchlight** of Cartuccia.* *A years-long war then erupted over the continent of Cartuccia. Though the CC. Company had the backing of various mercenary groups and a respectable navy, the guerilla tactics and tooth-and-nail fighting of the Cartuccian people backed by two patron goddesses prevailed. The CC. Company retreated to lick its wounds, never to recover its mercantile might.* And the rest is history, or that's what I would say if damn Professor Ahinar "The Senile" Sylvaranth didn't suddenly add another required two feet of parchment to this blasted essay...

\page # The United Territories of Cartuccia ###### **Ellista**: The first settlement in Cartuccia, as well as the capital city of the Union. A massive, sprawling urban region of advancement, technology, and civilization. Home of the Torchlight and the rest of the Cartuccian government in the White Perch, Ellista is where the majority of immigrants arrive. ###### **Erstland**: Rural farmland bordering the Katadihn mountain range. Boasts being the first Territory to join the Union. ###### **Greyloch**: Oceanbound center of Cartuccia's magitech industry. Sports a large Gnome population. ###### **Northport**: A stormy and cold area that thrives on fishing. ###### **Winoskitegw**: A laid-back and beautiful Territory. Primarily populated by retired politicians and the rich, but maintains a healthy population of craftsmen guilds, who often operate out of this Territory. ###### **Conchordia**: Rolling pasture, forest, and farmland. Takes advantage of the freshwater in the Cartuccian Seas. ###### **Lordston**: The center of Cartuccia's academic advancements. Bardic colleges are dominant and form actual physical schools here. ###### **Kismet**: The smallest Territory, Kismet is a heavy producer of fine seafood and textiles. Clams, lobster, and oysters are famous delicacies exported by the fishermen of Kismet. ###### **Hortswald**: Once green and rolling, Hortswald is now an industrial area covered in villages. ###### **Chesapeake**: Another water-focused territory, focusing on fishing and trade. Home to many companies and guilds' trade warehouses, Chesapeake is where most ships and goods returning to Faerûn leave from. ###### **Keystone**: Forest and farmland. The main agricultural center of the northeastern region. ###### **Atalanta's Grove**: More farmland, home to countless orchards, vineyards, and artisan good processing businesses. ###### **Tayshja**: Sparse plains and fields. dotted with villages, but mostly controlled by half of the Breácaint clan of Dwarves for use in their ranching business. ###### **Mason**: A mountainous region full of rocky terrain and dense forests at the feet of the mountains. Dwarven clans mine the interiors while Goliath tribes populate the peaks. ###### **West Mason**: A backwoods, quiet territory. Working closely with its eastern brother, the mountains in the eastern region of West Mason are mined primarily for coal, and sleepy, quiet mountain settlements dot the land. ``` ``` ###### The western regions form more classic agrarian communities, forming the center of mineral shipment to Lordston and the western Territories. ###### **Jackson**: Though small, Jackson is a well-rounded agricultural state. Famous for the liquor (especially whiskey) that it exports to the surrounding Territories. You should probably avoid the capital though. ###### **Hoosier**: The northernmost beginning of the plains, Hoosier is a sparsely populated Territory that focuses on fishing the Cartuccian Seas and directing river traffic southward. ###### **Longheart**: The meat of Cartuccia's settled plains. Mostly populated by prairie settlers slowly moving westward and starting farms as they go. ###### **Clevaland**: The last bastion of urban civilization. Clevaland is a society similar to many of Faerûn's kingdoms. Known as the capital of the west for its relative power. ###### **Moon's Edge**: Cartuccia's furthest frontier. After the borders of Tayshja fall off, Moon's Edge starts, bringing more wild plains to the north and dense forest and roughage to the south. Houses both a healthy fur trapper population and standard frontier settlers. ###### **Ozark**: Bordering Moon's Edge on the bank of the Moonriver, Ozark shares similarities to its neighbor, but features a rockier, more arid landscape to the southwest. Mining towns have begun to form in these hills. ###### **Puerto Aetharno**: A sunny, thriving population center. Has a little bit of everything, from industry in Hazelmere, to local business in Raft and Wanderousse, to the main draw to the rich and noble of Cartuccia, a heavy tourism business. ###### **North Dixie**: Where the south unofficially begins. Has a healthy mining economy, but is a nexus for logging. ###### **South Dixie**: Very similar to North Dixie, these two states are covered in dense forests that grow back at a supernatural rate. Unfortunately, so do the monsters that live there. ###### **Yellowhammer**: An oddly-shaped Territory. Mining in the north, farming in the south. Fine tobacco is grown here, more so than any other Territory, forming the backbone of Yellowhammer's economy. ###### **The Kissimmee Refuge**: A marshy and mysterious peninsula guarded by tribes of copper Dragonborn, who are uncharacteristically open to limited co-operation with Cartuccian society. Due to their copper heritage, these Dragonborn are able to brave the watery environment.

\page # The Locales #### The Sikkan Isles The home of the Sikkan Halflings, the third-oldest settlers of the region. The Sikkan maintain their lifestyle by processing Sikkan sugar cane into high-quality sugar on opulent plantations in a process only they are privy to. Canes is the main port town of the largest island. #### Wanderousse The bright and colorful home of the Crolean Gnomes, the second to settle Puerto Aetharno. Revels in culture above all else, offering scrumptious food and unique entertainment along its famed boardwalk. #### Lucksmith The massive mountainous home of Governor Thorin Breácaint and his half of the clan's base of operations. Functions as a combination governmental hall and luxury town-a massive community of luxury businesses are open to the rich within, including the Governor's casino that the mountain shares its name with. #### Hazelmere The dusky, constantly smoggy city that the common folk working in Lucksmith and Ladore' live. Separated into a few distinct districts. ``` ``` #### Ladore' A strip of high-class businesses and guild halls that cater to and house the upper-class residents of Puerto Aetharno. The Strand is Puerto Aetharno's famed beachfront. #### St. Orla Gentrified suburb of the rich and noble. #### Raft A mobile city of merchants and adventure that constantly circles the bay, providing business and transport to the various centers of population. Contains a mystifying centerpiece. #### Siltside Swamp The vast muddy and misty swamp that surrounds Wanderousse and the mouth of the great Moonriver. Makes it almost impossible to approach Wanderousse by anything but Raft. Some believe in rumors of a shantytown full of exiled Crolean. Others still speak in hushed tones of... #### The Docks The supposed lair of the thieves' guild, The Longshoremen. Terrifying in their time, their presence has recently waned...

Some are greater gods whose domains reach far across Toril or Cartuccia alone. #### Columbia, Goddess of Life Goddess of the spirit of the Cartuccian people, justice, and their prosperity. Columbia is the most senior of the three sister goddesses that watch over the nation and is likely the most powerful god in the Cartuccian pantheon by far, at least on her own turf. Worship of Columbia is practiced across the entire continent of Cartuccia; she and her sisters are the few gods who have dedicated places of worship in almost every city. These temples are often consolidated into a stately building with three levels. The top floor is dedicated both to worship of Columbia and to the processing of legal trials and tribulations, the ground floor to Ellistine and the running of local government, and the middle floor to Usonia and civil services. The pursuit of justice and truth, the promise of prosperity for every man, and the physical acquisition of the Cartuccian continent are the core virtues that Columbia champions. As an embodiment of the nation and the letter of its law, Columbia is as harsh and expectant as she is just and kind. For the plights of other nations and peoples she cares not, for she is the nation and it is her. In her territory, her word is law, and reality bends to it. In the rest of the world she is still a force to respect, but lacks the domination she enjoys over all that happens in Cartuccia. She appears as a tall and stately human woman of varying ethnic features, but most often depicted with fair skin and short brown or blonde hair. She is invariably depicted dressed in flowing robes and dresses patterned with the red, white and blue stripes and stars of the Cartuccian flag. As Columbia does not show herself often to mortals, depictions of her in art vary wildly, particularly her dress, which artists, sculptors and weavers contantly create variations of in hopes that she will adopt their designs. Columbia is said to inhabit the plane of **Egalité**, where all true patriots default to after death. Egalité is a cloudy plane full of soft light and harmony, where the devout and good continue to strive for justice and prosperity after death by serving Columbia's will as servants and messengers. **Portfolio: The nation of Cartuccia, prosperity, exploration and growth, light, the sky, might. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: Light, Life, Order, Tempest, War. ###### Sacred Oaths: Cartuccian Dream, Crown, Conquest, Devotion. ###### Otherworldly Patrons: Celestial.** #### Ellistine, Goddess of Liberty Goddess of the liberty and tenacity all Cartuccians value, Ellistine specifically watches over the cities, settlements, and other communities the people have formed. With a strong chaotic bent, Ellistine is less about order and continuous acquisition of the new like Columbia, but more about the freedom of choice, the growth of existing societal bonds, the ability of one to do whatever one's heart desires, and the undulating, constantly evolving environment of civilization. Where Columbia embodies the authority and stern power of Cartuccia, Ellistine is the spirit of its law, the ideals behind Cartuccia's founding, and the freedom of its people to live as well as they can. In contrast to her sister, Ellistine's teachings promote an active interest in protecting, cherishing, and nurturing any bond or person, no matter their origin. The debate over the encroachment on native lands by westward expansion is a long one, with the two goddesses, their followers, and by extension the entire populace, arguing over the morality of the country's expansion. Ellistine is depicted as a slightly gaunt yet somehow sturdy and capable adutlt High Elf. As she appears publicly more often than her sister, depictions of her do not vary as much, bar her seafoam robes, which constantly change fashions to match those of the artist's homeland depending on where she is depicted. She wears a crown of golden thorns that protrude out from under her hair. Her skin and aspects of her outfit are covered with golden triangles of various sizes. Ellistine presides over the plane of **Liberté** officially, but is all too often preoccupied with observing and helping those on the material plane. As the place where most Cartuccians without an otherwise destined afterlife default to after they die, it's a rough and tumble vast island populated community of energetic folk. Fitting Ellistine's tie to the sea, the waters surrounding Liberté connect to the astral sea and every length of the river Styx to facillitate postmortem adventuring. A great statue of Ellistine adorns a mountain in the center. **Portfolio: Liberty, cities and other urban centers, ports and roads, tolerance, the sea, change, community. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: City, Life, Tempest, Protection. ###### Sacred Oaths: Cartuccian Dream, Crown, Devotion. ###### Otherworldly Patrons: Celestial.** #### Usonia, Goddess of the Pursuit of Happiness Usonia is the third and final sister of the patron goddesses of Cartuccia and her peoples. Unlike the other two, she was not born during the confrontation that kickstarted the Uprising. Usonia came into existence about two decades later during a harsh winter. This is the same winter story that tells the story of the first Birchhaven. A raging blizzard had consumed the entirety of the settled lands surrounding Ellista, and death by exposure was reaching epidemic levels. Searching desperately for a solution, the government had not managed to stem the flow of death. In an act of desperation the Torchlight, Quinciii, instructed his agents to round up the entire populace and bring them to the White Perch. They complied, and over the course of days, the near total population of Ellista was housed from head to toe in the White Perch. Sacred symbols of Columbia were used as blankets, feathered and furred folk warmed young ones using their own waning strength, and the Torchlight and his subordinates went without every worldly comfort they could give up to their citizens. After a month, the blizzard had stopped on the morning of the 25th of Nightal. Thousands stepped out of the tree, feeling the sunlight on their faces. A red-haired head popped out of the crowd and rushed to the front of the stunned populace. Immediately jumping in front of Quinciii, she loudly proclaimed herself as the next patron goddess of Cartuccia. The exemplary sacrifice and loyalty the people of Cartuccia had shown to each other had resulted in her birth, and she had stopped the blizzard after coming to power. She was Usonia, the goddess of the Pursuit of Happiness. The right to a high quality of life, goodwill between all, and the victory of the good and kind over callousness and evil were her concerns. She whistled and summoned nine giant elk, tied them to an abandoned skiff in the frozen harbor, and flew away, returning

minutes later with incredible vegetables and wild game. Together, she and the population prepared a great feast and rested, recovering from the harsh winter in the White Perch. Though the people regained their strength and soon went to work repairing the city, Usonia was nowhere to be found. Some say she watches from afar pulling subtle strings in the name of prosperity, but the devout of Usonia know she hides in plain sight, finding the time to assist each and every mortal in finding genuine happiness. Every year on the 24th of Nightal, Usonia works divine magic on the world, visiting each and every citizen. She leaves gifts and nutritious foods meant to uplift the spirits and further friendship and love between those who partake in them together. Even villains and scoundrels receive offerings, for those pushed towards evil are considered by her to be the ones in the most need of her help. This occurrence has led to the holiday of Uletide being built around it. Most of the year when she isn't preparing for Uletide or out in the world spreading joy and hope, she looks over her home plane of **Fraternité**, a plane of eternal winter and night. The opposite of what one would expect of a wintry, dark plane, Fraternité is a place of eternal rest and peace. It's a vast expanse of snowy fields and forests, dotted with warm, bright cabins, decorated Uletide trees, and lanterns. At the heart of the plane sits Usonia's fabled workshop, where she and her followers live and work. This is the place those who suffered greatly in life and fought for kindness are bound to go, Fraternité is a place for the weary to find rest and comfort, the devout to continue helping the land of the mortals experience joy by helping Usonia in her workings, and all to experience good cheer. Oddly, elves of all alignments have a small chance to end up here after death regardless of their alignment or the destiny of their soul. Evil and disruptive elves are quickly sent packing. For reasons unknown, the devils of the Nine Hells constantly attack and lurk at the edges of the plane. So far Usonia and her elite force of fallen Elven warriors that guard the great ice shelf that forms the border of the plane have repelled their attempts. Fitting her many public appearances, she is most often depicted as eyewitness accounts report-as a small and wiry teenage half-elf with long, red or blonde hair and a flushed face, decked in green and red clothing of various styles trimmed with white rabbit fur. Her unique floppy red hat is a popular holy garment worn by Joy clerics across the Union. Unlike her sister Columbia, Usonia operates outside of Cartuccia, gradually increasing the range of her domain the further worship of her spreads. **Portfolio: Emotions - mainly those positive & interpersonal, fulfillment, winter, the home and hearth, selflessness. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: Joy, Life, Light, Forge. ###### Sacred Oaths: Cartuccian Dream, Ancients, Devotion, Redemption. ###### Otherworldly Patrons: Celestial.** #### Aunt Nancy, Hoarder of Wisdom When the vast majority of the population of the material plane thinks of Drow culture, religion in particular, the resulting images aren't pretty. Dystopian matriarchies, spider sex cults, and hideous sins abound, all in the name of the Dark Mother Lolth. However all-encompassing her influence seems to be nowadays, Drow society used to worship and venerate a plethora of other gods and figures (most as spidery as ever). Over time, these gods were forgotten and discarded in favor of Lolth, but lore and belief surrounding them traveled to the surface, changing the nature of their worship, and by extension, their very beings. Aunt Nancy is a prime example of such divine metamorphosis. Previously called **Anansi**, she was a middling trickster figure, using her worldliness and caution to overcome the dangers of the Underdark and to exasperate her fellow gods. Over time, the influence of Lolth expanded, taking over the entirety of Drow spirituality, extinguishing or diminishing the power of these various gods. Luckily for her, Anansi had gained a minor following with the deep gnomes, the Svirfneblin. Valuing the morals of sneakiness and survival via the application of knowledge present in her stories, their minor veneration had left her power and influence irrevocably changed and diminished. But most importantly, she had survived. Now dubbed **Aunt Nancy** by a society of gnomes who viewed her as a wise and hardy aunt, she felt the need to settle and hoard wisdom. She took a jar and began gathering the wisdom her followers saw and read, hoarding it. Sometime over the next few centuries, the surface a certain continent was settled by birds, then men, then all sorts of creatures. These creatures eventually made contact with the deep gnomes, who sparingly interacted with them from their mountain caverns. During this time, cultural exchange worked its magic and the veneration of Aunt Nancy passed to a small population of Cartuccians. Is most often depicted as a giant spider or different species or as a wizened and grey Drow womansporting a knowing smirk. Ask any Tiefling in Cartuccia, however, and they'll tell of an additional tale of the Good Sister. Upon her clergy's expansion, Aunt Nancy found her jar of wisdom growing heavy. Realizing that the entire world's wisdom wouldn't fit in one jar, she sealed it and attempted to cradle it in the top of a great birch tree for safekeeping. Unfortunately, the pot was too large and bulky, forcing her to tie it to her chest with her webbing. As she tried to climb the birch tree, she kept sliding down to the base as the pot restricted her movements. As she slid to the earth time and time again, her frustration grew until she was met by the sight of a mere Tiefling. The Tiefling looked at her situation and dryly noted that she should have secured the pot to her back so that her powerful legs would not be obstructed and she could scale the birch. So annoyed at her failure and a mortal outsmarting her, she stomped her legs and dropped the pot, smashing it and watching as the world's wisdom flitted away on the breeze, infusing all across the land with sense and wisdom. Though Aunt Nancy chased the Tiefling away for outsmarting her, she admitted his potential and took him on as a rival and apprentice. This Tiefling was Br'erha. He enjoys the simple pleasures of life- alcohol, tobacco, sex, and parties among others. His direct, rude style is tempered by a magnitude of charm with which he conducts his business. He constantly swears and makes obscene jokes and comments to the other beings he visits, but most who remember their encounters with the Tomb Warden can't help but regard him fondly afterward. Regardless of these reckless pleasures, he is very serious about his job, which ranges the gamut of the concept of death. Before death, the good Baron has the power over mortal health,

both spiritual and physical. A sideways glance towards a mortal can cure even the gravest of wounds if he sees fit to prolong their existence, and a shared drag of his cigar can remove any gruesome hex or curse given Samedi's power over hoodoo magics. If these mercies aren't granted, Baron Samedi judges an individual's passage to the afterlife. No matter the dying person's beliefs or their soul's destiny, while in Cartuccia, Baron Samedi has the final say over whether or not death is final. Just after the dead passes, he meets them in his plane, the dark and swampy Limboesque spirit world of **Loa**, and offers them a drink and a talk. Depending on the destiny of the dead and the quality of the conversation, Baron Samedi may either hand them a shovel and ask for help digging a grave that will pass them along to their final destination beyond the material plane, or he will hand them a cigar and show them the door, resurrecting them in the land of the living. As the final word on the permanency of death, Baron Samedi is the master of true resurrection in this realm. Detestful of undead, he ensures that corpses rot beyond recognition in their graves to ensure their eternal rest beyond his decisions. He is enraged by the meddling of Doctor Obeah to no end, acts that insult the sanctity of death by using hoodoo magics to create zombie thralls. He is traditionally depicted as a dark-skinned human wearing a top hat and glasses. His dark skin is layered over with white face paint, giving the appearance of a skull to his face. He is skinny and bony as a skeleton and his elegant tuxedo of black, purple, and white are classical funeral clothes in Puerto Aetharno. **Portfolio: Death, graveyards, vices and bad habits, health, fashion, appreciation of the bad. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: Grave, Death. ###### Otherworldly Patrons: Raven Queen, The Undying.** #### Old Scratch, Manager of the Crossroads Unfortunately, with the settling of a new land, evil and temptation following is inevitable. The various lords of the **Nine Hells**, in their eternal battle for power against each other, are always looking for more and more agents and soldiers to claim to their side to call upon when the time is right. And what better of a business opportunity would there be for such a place than a country full of the tired and poor, encouraged to reach out and take for themselves? Enter Old Scratch. Hailing from the layer of Malbolge of the Nine Hells, this crafty Devil was assigned by Asmodeus to prowl the land of Cartuccia and prey upon its people to corrupt, barter, and eventually enslave any of them that would give in to such temptations. He hails directly to no other Archdevil other than Asmodeus, but his instructions are to serve as a dealbroker for every other Archdevil, offering contracts and tempations from every level of the Nine to solve the myriad problems of mortals. As a direct emissary of Asmodeus himself, Old Scratch has no clergy, and instead focuses on his acquisitions of a far-reaching number of warlocks across the realm to do the bidding of the various Archdevils. Scratch's preferred method of corruption is a classic Devil's deal: a game of chance, skill, or a simple bargain of service for power. A rare few have managed to outwit the old dog, but the Devil almost always gets his due. Those willing to approach such a creature of their own free will often find the way to do so. An ear for superstition and covert research into urban legend and complied lore can lead an interested individual to discover the magic of Cartuccia's crossroads, where Old Scratch prefers to make his deals. Symbolic of the areas between the planes, a variety of rituals performed at a crossroads can summon Old Scratch or his subordinates, who will be more than pleased to cut a deal. Unbeknownst to most everyone else in existence until just a few years ago, Old Scratch moonlights as a prosecutor in his off hours, infiltrating local law firms and fighting the hallowed ground of Columbia's temples to damn more mortal lives to punishment so that he have more willing visitors down on their luck. Also enjoys a spot of fiddle playing. **Portfolio: Whatever his nine different contractors need or can provide. ##### Suggested... ###### Otherworldly Patron: The Fiend.** #### Br'erha, Patron of Liars The population of Cartuccia's tieflings find themselves blessed by the melting pot that the Union is, offering them a fresh start and a renewed reputation as a race. Feared and distrusted amongst the societies of Faerûn, legends and folklore in the flitting existence of Tiefling culture oft revolved around weak and vulnerable creatures that used their wits to survive and exert their will on the world. Perhaps the most nebulous and consistent legends consist of those of the Patron of Liars, Br'erha. Appearing as a tiefling clad in dark clothes, of a wiry yet healthy build, and sporting a unique set of deer-like antlers, Br'erha is classically depicted as using his smarts, deception, and honeyed words to get his dues against those who would harm him and deny him his fun (almost universally recognizable as thinly veiled expies of the majority population of the home of the tieflings who spread the story). By no means a hero or consistently victorious figure-nearly half of all recorded folktales center around his own befuddlement as a result of his lack of restraint and willingness to lie-Br'erha is considered a patron and ally to those who rely on lies and deception to secure themselves brighter lives. Individually, he represents thieves, criminals, and those who create their own luck. In the few times he's been used as a symbol of the race (history is dotted with minor tiefling uprisings and skirmishes, most extinguished without much fanfare), Br'erha represents loyalty to only those closest to oneself- family, friends, and the self, as well as the oppressed as a whole. Those who earn the patronage of Br'erha tie themselves to ruin-be it what drove them to his domain in the first place, or what the liars who follow him will irrevocably suffer. But in this predestined failure and hardship lies the will to survive and flourish in the face of adversity, a key value in Tiefling culture. Since immigrating to the Cartuccian culture along with his followers, he has gained the form of and is popularly depicted as a jackalope, a Cartuccian beast that appears to be a hare with a deer's antlers.

Aside from his interactions with his mentor and rival, ... , the most famous myth starring Br'erha is probably the tale of Br'erha and the Lion, in which a giant and fearsome lion catches Br'erha red-handed (red-faced, tailed, and palmed as well, for that matter) poaching the game of his forest. Restrained and helpless, Br'erha begged the lion not to send him to the Nine Hells for his transgression, pleading that the flames and heat would pain him endlessly. Gleefully taking the suggestion, the lion wrought a portal to the Nine Hells with his claws and tossed the Tiefling in. His smugness turned to anger as he saw the trickster gleefully dash away into the fire, whooping that the flames and brimstone couldn't hurt him as his infernal heritage had come from there. Br'erha is said to inhabit the minor plane of **Br'er**, a dark and claustrophobic splinter of a plane that lies shunted in between other planes, borrowing areas from all around the multiverse to make its landscapes. Thieves and those on the lam from authority are always welcome to pass through and lay low in the countless dark corners and chaotic remnants of other times and places. **Portfolio: Thieves & rebels, fortune and ruin, lawlessness, loyalty, lies, magic trickery. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: Trickery, Arcana. ###### Sacred Oaths: Vengeance.** #### Doctor Obeah, Patron of False Life Born of the legends surrounding all that is foul, unnatural, and tied to deep and dark hoodoo magics, Doctor Obeah is the local Crolean god of disgusting and insultingly extended life. As one of the least active of the Cartuccian gods, both the public knowledge and worship of the good Doctor are low, and he prefers it that way. Doctor Obeah works in the shadows with a small but dedicated clergy who work in his name, researching forbidden alchemies, twisted versions of druidic magics, and horrible necromancies. Even those who first revered him as a powerful extranormal figure, the Crolean gnomes, see him as a villainous and fearful figure and advise against doing anything but despising the him. Those who spurn these warnings find themselves dragged into a world of dark hoodoo rituals and forbidden recipes. The bulk of Doctor Obeah's tried and true rituals create and control zombies, both undead and mundane. Uncommon in the rest of the world, Obeah zombies are simply creatures that have been drugged and hypnotized into complete submission, following any suggestion given to them. Some see this practice as even more vile than classic necromancy, as the soul remains in the creature, muffled but suffering as normal protections against necromancy fail to smite, cure, or turn. These zombies are best combated with mundane medicine and rehabilitation, but disease and poison-combating magic can provide a promising start to the process. With luck and work, these people can make complete recoveries and begin their lives anew. Doctor Obeah is classically said to take great delight in the annoyance and anger he sows in Baron Samedi. Cartuccia's most famous lawyer instead preferred to send devils packing back to the Nine instead. Naturally regimented and organized for victory in war, most Hobgoblin clans had difficult a time integrating into Cartuccian society. Those that managed turned their order and willpower to use in other vocations- entire families pledged to mobs and dubious guilds, whole clans staffing urban law enforcement groups, and, perhaps most interestingly, a few family law firms. The Weblarr firm was an up-and-coming business fresh on its feet, operating out of a busy tenement in Ellista. Only a few years into its operations it received a fascinating case. An elderly Conchordian farmer, a greying dwarf named Jebediah Stonebeard, approached with a goal: to sue a devil of the Nine Hells for his soul. Turns out, Jebediah had sold his soul to a demon at a crossroads decades ago in return for riches, women, and comfort. He had managed to barter for a few more years, but he had recently been assured that his time was up. Jebediah knew he wasn't a learned man, so he left the task to the dubious group of Hobgoblins. Taking the case with stony-faced seriousness, they sent Daagla, the youngest attorney of the clan. An acceptable loss. On the chosen date, Daagla stood in a courtroom that lay within the largest temple of Columbia in Ellista. Word had spread of the ridiculous claims and a crowd had gathered to watch the attorney make a fool of herself by attempting to defend an old loon from an imaginary plaintiff. But as the trial began, the state-appointed prosecutor disappeared in a flash of fire and brimstone, and the legendary Manager of the Crossroads, Old Scratch, appeared instead. Introducing himself as such, the Devil agreed to the trial on two conditions- that Daagla best him in a contest of wits, and if he should win, that Daagla and her clan's souls would be forfeit as well. Despite cries of despair from her family in the balcony, Daagla accepted. What followed was the most impressive display of well-worded and disgustingly pedantic argument in Cartuccia's history. The back-and-forth took days. Old Scratch, a master of contracts and wording, summoned document after document detailing both the specifics of Jebediah's deal and the general processes of law under Glasya. Daagla pored over the demonic texts, shooting arguments of morality and technicalities back and forth with Old Scratch. Three days later, severely dehydrated, hungry, and delirious from lack of sleep, Daagla finally cinched victory by finding a forgotten half-clause issued into the record that dismissed the souls of Dwarves born without siblings from any service to the Nine Hells. Weakened from spending so much time on the hallowed ground of Columbia's temple, Old Scratch lapsed into a storm of profanities, grasping Daagla's palm and foretelling ruin after ruin, family deaths, and personal suffering in store for the Hobgoblin before disappearing. Though Daagla would suffer these misfortunes, including the untimely death of the entire Weblarr firm, she had successfully defended a mortal's soul from the Nine Hells. #### Daevalur Crockthdal, Hero of the People Born to a backwoods wood elf clan in the deep forests of North Dixie, Daevalur Crockthdal was always destined to lead. Attaining an unofficial position of leadership in his hometown for his uncanny wisdom, Daevalur eventually left North Dixie to join the war effort to the west. The Dragonborn population, at that point not yet totally removed to the western wilds, had pushed back on the fledgling territory of Clevaland. The few years of brutal war had left the central region of the Territory burned and razed by breath weapons and covered in bodies both scaled and skin-covered. During this time, Daevalur exercised his natural and learned skills in guerrilla warfare to great effect. He achieved high rank in a relatively short amount of time and finished the war as a kind of beloved folk hero to the frontier commoners. Upon his retirement he was granted the position of governor of North Dixie by the Torchlight via Ellistine's will. Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished. Despite his short tenure as Governor noted as nothing but competent and compassionate for his citizens, a deluge of accusations of corruption suddenly flooded upon the North Dixie government three years into his appointment. Daevalur attempted to dispute these claims, but found a grand conspiracy had somehow planted evidence to affirm the accusations of embezzlement and moral shortcomings leveled against him. As even his own statesmen rallied against him, Daevalur quietly announced his retirement, grabbed his trademark coonskin cap and disappeared. Daevalur spent his middling years as a wandering adventurer traversing the Union, assisting all those in need. He became beloved again, and was credited with loftier achievements, most of them true. Unfortunately, Daevalur met an untimely end. He found himself entrenched in a battle against Minotaur pirates besieging a southern port of Tayshja. After weeks of back-and-forth, Daevalur directed his new troops to flee as he held off the final assault. Daevalur died that day, but tales and rumors still frequently surface of a coonskin cap-topped elf coming to the aid of the people when they most need it. **Portfolio: Leadership, responsibility, frontiersmanship, common folk, protection. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: Protection, War. ###### Sacred Oaths: Crown, Devotion.** #### Jork'ugg Heinrich, Hero of the Steelworker Another of the most recently ascended demigods, Jork'ugg was a steelworker that operated in Ellista about a century ago. Beginning his career as a simple smith, he eventually worked his way up through the various construction companies with his hard work, knowledge of all things metallurgy, and good spirits. A hero to his neighborhood, Jork'ugg collaborated with his contracts to improve public utilities and beautification with his building projects. Eventually Jork'ugg felt he had done all he could. His style and techniques had left noticeable marks on the cityscape of Ellista's construction. He looked into a new technology being developed by the top machinists in the Union- the engineers developing the Cartuccian railway. Trains were a deft undertaking- too large and covering too much magically weak ground to be powered by a Galva conductor, locomotives were a conundrum on the technological and practical fronts. Jork'ugg approached the top dogs of the R&D team and offered his help, which they readily accepted. Using his experience in orcish smithing, Jork'ugg helped redesign key parts of the engines and locomotives, streamlining the designs and making them more efficient. After years in development, the steam locomotive debuted at the Toril's Fair held in Ellista. The Torchlight at the time was an immediate supporter, and dedicated funding to the creation of a trans-Cartuccian railroad. At this juncture, Jork'ugg took a more practical role, heading excavation and tracklaying teams in the wilderness. He laid rail with his men, led teams to clear land of dangerous monsters and landmarks, and became a symbol of the connection and spread of Cartuccian civilization. Evnentually, the gnomish artificers of Greyloch found their way into the business as they always do, and a gnomish mechanic challenged Jork'ugg and his team to a challenge. The first one to mine a tunnel through a mountain in the railway's planned route would win the right to having the stretch of rail named after them. The Steelskin happily accepted, stating that he'd sooner die than see his fellow metalworkers defeated by that which they melded to their whims. On the morn of the competition's beginning, Jork'ugg showed up with his pick and hammer, while the gnome showed up with a mechanical servant kitted out with drills, claws, and all manner of contraptions. The two began digging, Jork'ugg on the left, the contraption on the right. For days the two dug and dug, Jork'ugg stopping only long enough to eat and drink before picking his hammer back up. And after nearly a week and a half, Jork'ugg's hammer broke through the other side of the mountain, the contration having broken down hours earlier. Victorious though he was, Jork'ugg's health deteriorated from the exertion, and he passed away with his hammer in hand while laying the track on that very rail. Though his ashes were returned to his neighborhood in Ellista, he's since shown up as a protector of those who travel the rails and a champion of creators and metalworkers. **Portfolio: Construction & creation, physical strength, tenacity, practicality, railroads & railworkers. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domain: Forge, City.** #### Myra Pourpot, Heroine of the Inventive In the early days of Cartuccia, the magitech and control over the land's raw magical energies were not nearly as advanced and perfected as they are today. As such, official artificers were rare, often on the copper of the CC Company. Luckily for the Uprising, a few gifted in the arts of magical item creation filled their ranks. Myra Pourpot was a middle-aged halfling woman who worked as a brewer on the outskirts of Ellista, known across the city as one who could coax a delicious liquid out of any fruit or vegetable. When the Torchlight declared the Union's independence, she boarded up her shop and joined the army to serve as a nursemaid. Her reasons for doing so were twofold: first, her pure patriotism. Two, her reasoning that the battlefield was the perfect testing grounds for her first invention.

In her spare time, Myra had developed an incredible Greater Alchemy Jug, a magical jug capable of conjuring an incredible variety of liquids from its hundreds of corks. In the coming years, Myra became the stuff of legend amongst the mercenaries of the CC Company. Reports of a childlike figure carrying a large pot on its back were unfailingly followed by reports of massive supply damage, sabotage, or enemy resurgence. Myra found innumerable uses for her Alchemy Jug in the war, from destroying important bridges with explosive nitroglycerin, to refreshing her fellow soldiers with sips of healing potion, coffee, and simple water, to clogging enemy cannons with massive quantities of cream cheese. In one battle she was spotted by the enemy and narrowly dodged a cannonball fired at her which passed between her legs, ripping her skirt. Eyewitness accounts report her casually saying something to the effect of "lucky for me it wasn't a little higher" before continuing on her way. Nicknamed Sergeant Myra by her brothers in arms, Myra used her jug to find novel and effective solutions to all manner of mundane and incredible problems. After the war, she settled down and continued tinkering, creating many more esoteric and novel magical items before her peaceful death at home. For her cleverness, patriotism, and resourcefulness, she ascended as a demigod, a patron of all those who utilize odd and esoteric magical items, no matter the purpose. Myra's followers are often rogues and artificers who seek to find use out of any magical item they find, from the loftiest artifacts to the weirdest wizarding pet projects. Most followers of Myra keep a small, special workbench as a kind of altar to her where they work on tinkering projects. Skirts and kilts with the bottoms ritualistically ripped out are a favorite amongst those who share her curiosity enough to become Arcana clerics in her name. **Portfolio: Minor magical items, ingenuity, inventiveness, liquids & drinks, war support. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: Arcana, Forge.** #### Paavu Bunion-Soles, Hero of the Wilds Most Cartuccians living on the coast have never met one of the stony folk, and the common conception is that they are a race of loners, serious and rough. While that may be closer to the truth than not for those that live high on the peaks, the goliath who live at the base of the Katahdin mountains couldn't be further from that stereotype. These families of goliath are often boisterous, loud, and fun-loving, and put their natural stamina and strength to good use, often taking up a living of logging and conquering the constantly shifting and regrowing forests of the Dixies and Masons. Revered in this subculture is the legendary lumberjack Paavu Bunion-Soles. The legends surrounding Paavu are older and more abstract than those of the other Cartuccian demigods. The most consistent retellings give his birthday as only a few decades into the settling of the new continent, and with more time for his legends to evolve and spread, so too did Paavu change. The common stories paint him as a precocious lad who was the first of his tribe to reject their new home in the mountains and climb down. Finding a magnificent forest of plentiful resources, he grabbed a nearby wild ox cow and scaled the mountain again, determined to show off this prize as an example of the treasures below. Managing to convince a small band, he descended the mountain still holding the ox, whose fur had turned blue from the severe cold. These goliath began travelling around the base of the mountain range, felling trees, creating cabins for their own future use, and slaying monsters. As their semi-nomadic life continued, Paavu grew to adulthood, and then he just kept growing. Lumberjack myth consistently lists Paavu as having grown to over 60 feet tall, and his blue bull matching proportionally. Paavu laughed that it would simply help him fell bigger trees. As time went on, Paavu was seen less and less as he explored hidden areas of the region on his own, and he eventually passed leadership of the lumberjack society off to his second-in-command. It was then that Paavu moved firmly into fulfilling his role as the Hero of Wilds, inspiring all explorers and harvesters of Cartuccia's bounties. One of the most popular stories of Paavu with those outside of the Mason-Dixie region is his invention and love of flapjacks. One day after a long session of logging, Paavu and his band of Frontiersmen found their stomachs empty and their pantries empty. Grimacing through a pang of hunger, Paavu ran off towards the nearest mountain, shouting to his men to gather as many oats as they could find and to produce as much butter as they could from his blue ox's milk. Hours later, they saw Paavu returning, bounding over the trees with his gigantic legs, holding an enormous wild boar and a mass of wrought iron. Paavu got straight to business, pounding the iron into a flat griddle with the head of his axe, mixing the oats, butter, and some sugar into a batter, and flaying bacon off of the boar. As he lit a fire underneath the gigantic griddle, he instructed his men to tie the bacon to their feet and skate across the warming iron, greasing it. When all was prepared, Paavu poured the batter onto the griddle, creating huge, soft, delicious cakes, the likes of which the Frontiersmen had never tasted before. Paavu had created flapjacks, which are traditionally believed to be his favorite food, and are still considered a staple of both the Frontiersmen and Cartuccia as a whole. **Portfolio: Dominance over nature, masculinity, adventure, strength, challenging the status quo. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domain: Nature. ###### Sacred Oaths: Ancients, Conquest** #### Paelias Reverie, Hero of the Messenger When the uprising began, everyone in Ellista saw the confrontation plain as day-how could one not when a pair of gigantic goddesses erupted from the sky and sea? At that time, Cartuccia was moderately settled- the coastline stretching from Ellista down halfway through what would become Atalanta's Grove was dotted with fledgling communities, mostly colonies established by the Central Chondathian Company. Though the newly rebellious Torchlight had access to magical items and spells to communicate with potential allies in Faerûn, these towns had no such luxuries. As such, Grakki determined it necessary to immediately communicate his order in a mundane fashion. For that, he looked to the Royal Office of the Post, and in particular to a centaur postman named Paelias Reverie. A humble postman who also held a fine silver shop in what was now called Ellista, Paelias stood at attention as Grakki strutted around, telling him the message he wanted to band the common folk together with. Highlights of abuse by the CC Company's lieutenants, the promise of freedom to live as they wanted, and the blessing of one goddess by sky, one by sea backing them. With these final instructions, Grakki sent Paelias on his midnight ride, the last whisps of the vibrant Flamerule sky fading as he lit a lantern and galloped south.

For seven consecutive days Paelias ran, ran faster and with more conviction than he ever had. He zigged and zagged between the coast and further into land as he followed the beaten roads, stopping briefly at sleeping villages to rouse the townspeople and give breathless speeches of the occurrences and the orders of Grakki. A learned centaur, Paelias worked a tongue as silver as his wares back home, and then immediately continued his gallop south. Unfortunately, an almost continuous gallop down the side of an entire continent took its toll. Delirious from lack of sleep, Paelias rode into the southernmost port town of Cartuccia, arriving at midday in the middle of the town market. A rare sight in those lands, the citizenry stopped to stare at the battered and bruised centaur as he began his speech, but he fell down dead halfway through as his heart gave out. Paelias' sacrifice had done its work. Moved by his persuasive argument, the majority of the Cartuccian commonfolk sided with the efforts of the Torchlight and picked up their weapons, prepared to create a fine militia to fight. The legend of Paelias' legendary weeklong ride became a classic story of both the Uprising and the founding of Cartuccia proper and as such, Paelias ascended as a demigod of the side of war focused on communication, sacrifice, and military intelligence. He also operates as a minor god of artistry in forging and the post office. **Portfolio: Messages and communication, travel, wartime strategy, artisanal forgework, determination, the post. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: War, Forge.** #### Perrin Peachpit, Hero of the Orchard One of the newest of the Cartuccian demigods, Perrin was one of the many sons of the Peachpit family on the Sikkan isles. Never the favorite, Perrin preferred tending to the Sikkan cane and his personal garden more than engaging in the daring social games the other Sikkan families did. He declared himself a simple gardener, enjoying the simple pleasure of tending to his orchard of fruit trees and partaking in their bounties. To the ire of his family, eventually his fruit caught on so much that the other Sikkan families and laborers on their plantations offered to buy the surplus, then the Crolean in Wanderousse, then everyone in Puerto Aetharno. Usually any other creature in this position would relish their monopoly and simply rake in the cash, but Perrin valued the beauty and joy the trees and sharing their fruit brought. He managed to steal a bag of holding from his family and filled it with pits, seeds, saplings, sprouts, and stones from his orchard and set off on an adventure to share his orchard with the world in a more permanent way. For the rest of his life he eschewed the comforts of home in order to plant nurseries and groves wherever he went, teaching the native peoples of the land how to raise trees and treat the earth well. His travels ended in a sleepy village in Hoosier as he drifted off to sleep for the last time, his beard long and thick and his feet dirty and calloused. So pleased with his revival of certain plants and his civilization-friendly approach to restoring nature, the power of various nature gods and the appreciation of the public ascended him as a demigod. Appears as a rough-looking and ruddy Sikkan halfling with bushy sideburns wearing a rough tunic, leather trousers, no shoes, and a dinged pot on his head. **Portfolio: Orchards, fruits and vegetables, nature, altruism, kindness. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domain: Nature.** #### Samrock "Rivertwixt" Breácaint, Hero of the Moonriver Samrock Rivertwixt is another lively and recently ascended demigod originating from the southwestern region of Cartuccia. Samrock grew up in the region of Puerto Aetharno as one of the first natural-born generation of the Breácaint clan of dwarves. Through his childhood Samrock showed cunning and wisdom beyond his years, not having traded any of the feistiness of youth. Eschewing the responsibilities of his family's leadership of the region, he took his meager inheritance early and opened his own shipmasonry trade, but he also pursued his hobby of writing. The stories he penned often spoke of clever and brave souls from the southern region and smacked of social commentary of the rumored injustices committed by his branch of the family. His books are still printed and sold everywhere but Puerto Aetharno, where his nephew, the current governor, has outlawed their printing. In his old age, Samrock found himself drawn more and more to the mighty Moonriver, and after some research and communing with nature, discovered a powerful water elemental living in the most ferocious section of the river on the border of Moon's Edge. Firing up his steamboat, Samrock engaged in an hours-long battle with the creature for the sake of a fight. Such was the maelstrom of water and mud that surrounded the two’s battle that most of the populace are sure he fought the spirit of the Moonriver itself. After hours of combat, the water elemental drew the steamboat with Samrock on it into a portal to the plane of elemental water and the river was calm, forgoing its usual deadly floods for years afterwards. Years later, Samrock and the elemental appeared again, chasing each other up and down the river, followed by an even harsher maelstrom than the first time. Since his ascension, the floods of the Moonriver have calmed, and shipping to the rest of the world through Hazelmere's port has become a boon to the Union. Samrock has been adopted by Cartuccia's riverworkers as a sort of patron saint, following his bravery and stubborn nature in conquering the river and his own destiny. Appears as old and grey as when he ascended, with thick hair and an even thicker beard and moustache. Wears nothing but white suits and bowties. **Portfolio: Rivers & rough water, ships, storytelling & literature, wit and intelligence, stubbornness. ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: Tempest, Knowledge.** #### The Great Samtheon, Master of the Arcane (...?) Unlike the actual gods of the Cartuccian pantheon, and even unlike the "demigods" who amount to simple legendary heroes, the only one who seems to consider The Great Samtheon a god is the man himself. Rather than having ascended as a folk hero whose stories and reputation made ripples on Cartuccian society, The Great Samtheon just... appeared. Years ago reports of strange, terrifying magical destruction occurring past the northwestern frontier began emerging. Tales of great pillars of fire, sudden cyclones lasting split seconds, gushes of water, and enormous earthquakes. Rumors of wild magic zones where Cartuccia's latent, usually subtle magical field would rear its head and bend reality oddly. With these reports often came sightings of an odd humanoid- what seemed to be an elderly human male, caped in the colors of the Cartuccian flag and wearing an oddly patterned top hat was seen at the site of these events. The figure has occasionally presented itself to witnesses, who describe it as shifting its

flesh between fiery starstuff, rocky crag, and all sorts of natural materials. The few times this figure has introduced itself (seemingly as a god every time), the two pieces of information it imparts are its name and title, The Great Samtheon, Master of the Arcane, and that all are to stray far from its territory, the land where the Moon sets, whatever that means. As more of a wild, mysterious arcane force than anything close to an actual god, The Great Samtheon has no actual clerics. Those that seek him out are Knowledge and Arcana clerics dedicated to actual gods that seek him out to uncover what secrets he might know and perhaps unravel the mysteries of Cartuccia and the universe itself. ** ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: Arcana, Knowledge... kind of. ###### Otherworldly Patron: The Seeker.**

#### Simmering Ashes, Heroine of Reverence Though most of the dragonborn tribes have retreated to the western wilds, remaining unseen for years at a time, things were not always like this. The westward expansion of Cartuccian society caused the heads of these two cultures to butt. Countless battles between dragonborn defending their traditional homes and sacred burial grounds and Cartuccians claiming the land for themselves occurred. As history shows, dragonborn society eventually receded, mostly giving up these lands to the invaders. One dragonborn warrior remains prevalent in the minds of many Cartuccians, the chieftain Viir-Yol, translated into common as Simmering Ashes. During the initial settlement of the lands that would eventually make up the territory of Ozark, the local tribe sent a messenger, warning the Cartuccian people to back off of the next valley, a sacred place in the tribe's history. Enraged, the more violent of the settlers would not be denied any possible opportunity. The local militia created a raiding party and descended on the valley, bringing guns and as much water they could to slay the natives. Though the dragonborn were initially thrown into chaos, their chieftain and medicine woman appeared to direct her people. Incredibly imposing with her golden-scaled hide and massive 8-foot frame, Simmering Ashes called her people and directed their holdout to the tribe's burial site, creating a natural chokepoint through which the invaders could not pierce. The battle raged through the night, and though the dragonborn battled fiercely with their breath weapons, the raiding crew approached. Chief Viir-Yol demanded the survivors run away into the night, to escape to and find asylum amongst the tribes further west. After securing her people's safety, Simmering Ashes tore down the chokepoint herself, inviting the raiders to approach. Not many survivors remained of the raiding party, and those who did shakily reported the chief savagely fighting off most of the party on her own, surrounded by ghostly spirits, before dying of her many wounds. Though few Cartuccians worship Simmering Ashes, even by the standards of a demigod, those that hold burial sites and the sanctity of death dear often revere the conviction with which she and her tribe defended their dead. **Portfolio: Respect for the dead & the past, tradition, unadultured nature, the ancient magics.** ##### Suggested... ###### Divine Domains: Grave, Nature. ###### Sacred Oaths: Anciencts, Devotion, Vengeance. #### Your own...? ### A note on "demigods"... Most unique to Cartuccia is its abundance of "demigods". The latent magic of Cartuccia has led to the immortal ascension of several mortals from among the ranks of its folk heroes and legendary citizens. Demigods do not usually receive direct worship as actual deities do-the moniker of "demigod" is simply a cultural shorthand; they are closer to saints or patrons of a certain aspect of life. They are generally seen as paragons in their fields who lead and inspire those sharing their beliefs into reaching for greatness. Clerics of these gods usually worship a main greater god, holding the demigod as a sort of personal hero or living ideal of their beliefs and aspirations.

This is a modded FR after all. ## Common Races These races make up the bulk of Cartuccian society and are a common sight most places one would go. Some subraces might be rarer or rather odd... ### Dwarves Dwarves in Cartuccia are all descended from clans of Faerûn. Many settling clans, taking advantage of their resourcefulness and work ethic, have attained positions of political power in Cartuccia. Many dwarves are from affluent families which usually make their homes in the mountain range that stretches up and down the continent, ending in Lucksmith. Other dwarves, either single families who have struck out on their own or exiles from their old lives in Faerûn, sometimes settle down in the cities and frontiers of Cartuccia. This has led to dwarves being spread evenly across the Union. **Subraces available: Hill, Mountain, Duergar** ### Elves Elves find their way into every area of the planes they care, and Cartuccia is no different. Wood elves often take up positions as rangers and bounty hunters on the frontier while half-elves prefer urban centers and Drow occasionally emerge from the mountain tunnels before being driven back by the militia. High elves find a neat middle ground, continuing the duality of sociable yet haughty members of civilization and elusive forest-dwellers they hold in the rest of the world. Eladrin and unseelie Eladrin often migrate from the western frontier past the Moonriver. Some close friends of these individuals have pried a few choice sentences from the lips of overly talkative spring Eladrin-rumors and claims that they came to this land directly from the moon itself, which they claim hides the great Seelie and unseelie fey courts of the Feywild and Shadowfey under its summer seas. **Subraces available: High Elf, Wood Elf, Drow, Eladrin, Unseelie Eladrin (reflavored Shadar-Kai).** ### Halflings Assisted by their great senses of community and general agreeableness, halflings have enjoyed a prolific existence in Cartuccia. Or at least those who ventured out of their holes to immigrate. Though any city vista in Cartuccia will include a few of these diminutive figures in view, halflings make up a large portion of the farming folk in Cartuccia. Following their natural inclination to stay out of trouble and enjoy the pleasures of daily life, territories such as Conchordia, Erstland, and Atalanta's Grove are heavily populated by halflings. Puerto Aetharno is home to a community of halflings that set out south in the first years of Cartuccia's discovery along with the gnomes that would eventually be known as the Crolean. These halflings make their living on the centuries-old process of processing Sikkan sugarcane in a process only they are privy to. These clans each control a plantation somewhere on the isles dedicated to a different strain of the sugarcane, hiring and housing passing travelers to work for them. Some make their livings on these plantations, while others make just enough to catch a train to the next territory before leaving. Though these clans respect each others' turf, their centuries of isolation from the mainland dealing with the same individuals and families have led to an odd culture of recreational gossip, drama, and backstabbing. Decades-long petty intrigue and minor feuds fuel the interest of these halflings, who can seemingly communicate (and tease) others with merely a glace. **Subraces available: Stout, Lightfoot, Sikkan (reflavored Ghostwise)** ### Humans As with the rest of the world, humans are notoriously energetic and prolific compared to other races, in contrast to their relatively short lives. They make up a significant portion of Cartuccia's population. Live a day in Cartuccia and you're almost guaranteed to come across a human at some point. The largest ethnic group of humankind in Cartuccia are those of Chondathian descent, befitting Cartuccia's origins as a colony of Chondath. The other various ethnicities of humans are all present, however, and those of all creeds and appearances are present, from the tall and pale Illuskan to the dark-skinned Turami peoples. **Subraces available: Standard, Variant.** ### Gnomes Most gnomes in Cartuccia are rock gnome immigrants or first-generation Cartuccians that find work as artificers and tinkers that work to improve Cartuccia's magitech. As usual, they stay out of the way most of the time, but are generally agreeable. Forest gnomes are rare nowadays, but their primary population lives on as the Crolean subculture in Puerto Aetharno. The majority of the rock gnome population is centered in the territory of Greyloch, the ocean and bay-filled territory to the north of Ellista. Greyloch has been the center of the magitech revolution in Cartuccia since its conception, and the rock gnomes guard their secrets greedily. Deep gnomes, the Svirfneblin, occasionally emerge from the mountains to grumpily interact with the topdwelling population. Deep gnomes have had access to Cartuccia for long before its official discovery, trading some of its native plants (such as corn and tomatoes) to those in Faerûn without explaining where it came from. Nowadays they just shrug and say no one asked them where they got the stuff. Puerto Aetharno's Crolean gnome population are an offshoot of forest gnomes that explored the wild southern lands of Cartuccia shortly after its initial discovery alongside the Sikkan Halflings. Originally simple farmers on the mainland, the urban development of Puerto Aetharno has led to them settling mainly in the colorful city of Wanderousse or in the dank Siltside swamp. **Subraces available: Svirfneblin, Forest, Rock**

\page ### Half-Orcs Due to a seemingly near total lack of pureblooded orcs in Cartuccia, most half-orcs are immigrants from Faerûn or children of half-orcish citizens. As such, most are more attuned with the culture of their human or otherwise non-orcish blood. Some half-orcs that still hear the call of Gruumsh remove themselves to the wilds to the west and form rough outlaw societies or live solitary lives in the wilderness. Because of the lack of orcish raids, the stigma held by half-orcs in the Faerûn is barely felt in Cartuccia, and many half-orcs in settled lands are welcomed for their toughness and common sense, much to the confusion of fresh immigrants. Befitting their extreme displacement from orcish society, half-orcs in Cartuccia have gained the unique name of Steelskins, referencing both their grey complexions and overall toughness. Befitting the name, Steelskins share a common history as smiths and steelworkers. Retaining the techniques of orcish forgework, which is more focused on creating modular parts and materials than whole weapons or fanciful art like dwarves and elves respectively, half-orcs were essential in building Cartuccia's cities into what they are today. Soon after the conclusion of the Uprising, many bands of half-orcs got to work smelting iron, glass, and stone into grand buildings. About 175 years ago, some of the Steelskin construction companies, partnering with their on-and-off rivals the Rock Gnomes, developed a revolutionary new technology by the name of the steam locomotive. Not even the development of the Galva Conductor has usurped the steam engine used in these locomotives-one would need an incredibly large conductor for every train and laying tracks in accordance with existing ley lines would be a nightmare. Since then, efforts to create a railway system spanning Cartuccia's borders have moved at full speed, and many major cities are connected by gleaming tracks of steel. Since trains have become widespread, Cartuccia's trade and tourism industries have skyrocketed for very clear reasons. The Hero of the Steelworker, Jork'ugg Heinrich, is often revered as a representative of all who work with trains. All from conductors to simple track layers cite Jork'ugg as the exemplar of their craft. ### Tieflings Though still slightly ostracized by much of society, especially families of immigrants from Faerûn, tieflings find solace in the generally accepting culture of Cartuccia, spreading to urban and rural areas alike in search of a place in the world. Some, however, have taken this golden opportunity to prey upon an unexpecting society for their own benefit and operate as thieves and spies. In general, a tiefling in Cartuccia can expect the same level of respect that any other humanoid would receive from many Cartuccians, especially the devout of the three patron goddesses of the country. Columbia's protection of her own, Ellistine's demand of equality and freedom from oppression, and Usonia's belief in a fulfilling and joyous existence for all all discourage the blatant racism tieflings face in the Faerûn. Those raised with values from Faerûn may not be so kind. The citizens of the territory of Jackson are rather wary as well. Why could that be? Tieflings have a long history of oppression and species-wide homelessness in the lands of Faerûn, and often traveled solo or in itinerant families to avoid persecution, deserved or otherwise. Over time, these scattered bands formed a loose Tiefling culture of stories, conflicts, and art. The creation and worship of Br'erha, the tiefling god of trickery, were spurred by this lifestyle. As many tieflings found their first permanent homes in Cartuccia, so did the worship of Br'erha, who soon joined the Cartuccian pantheon. **Subraces available: Asmodeus, Baalzebul, Dispater, Fierna, Glasya, Levistus, Mammon, Mephistopheles, Zariel** ### Kenku Kenku are surprisingly common in Cartuccia. Fit for urban survival, many kenku find it easy to become part of a flock or find a suitable master to serve. Others strike it on their own, attempting to integrate into Cartuccian society as any other race would. These kenku are more readily accepted than in other societies for the same reasons tieflings are, but are still treated with suspicion by many, often for good reason. With their natural stunted creativity, kenku don't have much of a distinct culture of their own, often conforming to the customs and traditions of their surrounding neighbors or masters. Surprisingly, some kenku have reacted to the latent magics of Cartuccia and have physically mutated over time, coming to resemble native Cartuccian corvids-kenku born in Cartuccia have a chance to resemble blue and Steller's jays rather than ravens. **If you're playing a kenku, feel free to play it fast and loose with the lack of creativity thing. They probably just have more difficulty coming up with off-the-cuff plans, needing to rely on extensive research of past situations and attempting to apply that knowledge.** ### Tabaxi As natural wanderers and purveyors of lore and adventure, it's no surprise that the tabaxi were some of the most excited in the prospect of an entirely new continent and society to plunder for stories. While wanderers at heart, a small portion of the tabaxi population stays put in the heart of Cartuccia's busiest urban areas to dabble in all manner of cultural lore, trading information and innovations like gold. Most tabaxi set up businesses such as antique stores, restaurants, and libraries to scratch this itch. Most people will tell a tourist from Faerûn to be sure to stop by a tabaxi fish restaurant once in their days for this very reason-good secrets make good food. Those that give into their natural inclination to wander oftentimes find themselves joining exploration crews spearheaded by the government to settle or scout the wilds west of the Moonriver. Given their gifts in agility and natural survival, many welcome the sight of a tabaxi in their ranks. Like the kenku, many tabaxi have reacted to the latent magics of Cartuccia and have changed physically, coming to resemble mountain lions, lynx, bobcats, and other Cartuccian felines.

\page ### Hobgoblins The most successful branch of the goblinoid races to join mainstream society, Hobgoblins have earned an odd keep in Cartuccia. Reviled as naught but savage warlords in Faerûn, the hobgoblins that found their way to this new continent and quickly realized that it was adapt or die. And so adapt they did. The few clans that found their way suppressed their innate desire to conquer and scheme and instead put that energy elsewhere. Putting their strengths to use, hobgoblin society gravitated towards occupations requiring keen minds and regimented lifestyles-law enforcement, recordkeepers and inspectors, and, interestingly, lawyers. Over time, even hobgoblins have learned to relax to a degree, and are generally seen as productive, if slightly humorless, members of society.

### Goliath Goliath have taken well their niche in Cartuccia as denizens of the mountains and forests. Families and individuals that migrated by chance hundreds of years ago found their ways to the great Katahdin mountains bisecting the continent and managed to form their own tribes in the great heights. There they live lives very much similar to those of goliath in the rest of Toril, only descending in extraordinary circumstances. Separate from this population are the Frontiersmen, followers of the philosophy of Paavu Bunion-Soles.Inspired by his prowess and legendary might, these goliath fight a constant battle of mastery over the the territories of North and South Dixie, supplying the entire country with lumber and keeping the endless flood of monsters at bay. Over time, many followed in these attempts, and groups of hunters and loggers sprung up around the camps of these individuals. For this reason it has become a staple of Cartuccian superstition that having a goliath around brings good luck in living off the land.

## Uncommon Races While not unheard of, individuals of these races are a special sight in Cartuccia. One could probably expect to see these folk mostly in special places-at about a rate of a few a week in populated areas. ### Aarakocra Aarakocra are a race vitally important to Cartuccia's history as the Torchlight, is a title passed from aarakocra to aarakocra by Columbia's will. 600 years ago a tribe of aarakocra living on the material plane were blown to what would become Cartuccia, beginning our story. Aarakocra come in all varieties, and have recently been showing new forms befitting Cartuccian avian life. Most Torchlights take the form of a bald eagle, but condors, turkeys (such as in the case of the 9th Torchlight Fraankaa), robins, and others have all had imitations. Though usually just, the Torchlight can show blatant favoritism, giving any foreign aarakocra important jobs as ambassadors and generals. ### Centaur Easily adapting to a new continent of wide open spaces and rolling plains, centaur have easily found their place in Cartuccian society. Centaur, with their fey leanings, connection to nature, and their relations with the societies of men, have settled extremely well in Cartuccia. Those answering the call to nature more strongly often travel west to the great planes where they hunt, make their homes in the wilderness, and consort with hidden fair folk to divine the future of the material plane. Those more in touch with their humanity remain in more rural areas in their day-to-day lives, preferring tightly-knit farming communities. Though originally a shock for most citizens, the sight of a centaur trotting down main street is now a pleasant sight. Astute in their ability to travel, a select few centaur clans make up the backbone of Cartuccia's postal service, traveling the roads and wilderness with grace and speed through sleet and hail. the image of Paleas Reverie, one of the key figures in the Uprising, is used as a symbol of both the post and urban centaur society as a whole. The propagation of the steam engine has damaged their power in this industry, and these clans now focus on intra-city and territory operations. Not all centaur take the forms of horses as one might expect. Many have the bodies of smaller ungulates. Those with the bodies of ponies, deer, goats, donkeys, and llamas have lived their lives in Cartuccia. ### Dragonborn Dragonborn are a new and curious race native to the Cartuccian continent. Though they have been pushed off of much of their land and they have rubbed shoulders with incoming settlers, the majority of dragonborn tribes have gradually retreated to the wilds east of the Moonriver in the last few centuries. There they and the great beasts of the wilds have set a a hard border to Cartuccian civilization in the last century. Another tribe, the Kissimmee, have retreated to the territory that shares their name. Other smaller tribes isolated in pioneered territories continue to clash with Cartuccians to this day. The native dragonborn population shares a close connection to the wild magic of Cartuccia. This manifests as a terrifying breath weapon differing by tribe. As was discovered by the first warriors sent by the Central Chondathian Company, the physical forms of dragonborn are negatively affected by pure water. Those that have battled with tribal forces for land and wealth have noted that, when covered with water, their scales seem to melt and dissolve, causing immense pain. The few scholars dedicated to understanding dragonborn society have gleaned that as these scales are shed, the dragonborn purposefully dissolve them with water. This mixture forms a thick paste that the dragonborn spread on their bodies to create their trademark body art.

\page Dragonborn art also usually consists of woodcarving combined with this makeshift paint-sculpture is extremely common. There have been no revelations into the reason for the vulnerability itself. ### Aasimar Aasimar are as common in Cartuccia as they are in most parts of Toril, which is to say: not very. Most aasimar in Cartuccia are pilgrims from Faerûn chasing some evil or traveling to spread the good word of their deity to a fresh land. Given Columbia and Ellistine's claim to the land, those representing other major gods can sometimes rub local culture the wrong way. Columbia occasionally reincarnates her agents resting in Egalité as aasimar to follow a destiny of her choosing. Aasimar come in all shapes and sizes- as an aasimar can be born of the (comparatively) mundane races, namely humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, gnomes, and half-orcs. The divine influence acts as an equalizer of sorts- aside from Size and Speed traits, all traits follow the aasimar entry in VGM. The soul of an aasimar raised in a culture other than human might lead to interesting circumstances. **Subraces available: Fallen, Protector, Scourge.** ### Firbolg Firbolg are sparsely seen in Cartuccia, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. Unbeknownst to most, tribes of them are scattered all throughout Cartuccia's western wilds. Finding themselves at peace with the land and its original inhabitants, firbolg in Cartuccia are even more bashful than in Faerûn, taking measures to hide their huge, hairy frames from other intelligent beings. As such, any reports of firbolg are at best vague descriptions of huge, furry beasts, blurry to the naked eye. ### Triton Though not common, triton are not unheard of in Cartuccia. Having little interest in the surface most of the time, triton only began frequenting Cartuccia when the surface-dwelling folk had gotten to it. Adventuring and enterprising triton are uncommon visitors to Cartuccia's port towns. After conducting their business, most triton return to their deep sea civilizations, but occasionally some will request access to the Moonriver for unknown reasons. However, there are whispers that deep in the swamps of Kissimmee sits a great triton city-state. Few have managed to even make it into the territory of the Kissimmee dragonborn tribe in the northwestern part of the territory, but those that have sailed south report glints of beautiful glass and stone architecture surrounding enormous trees... ### Genasi Genasi occasionally wander to Cartuccia as they do to other areas of the material plane. As passage to the elemental planes of air, fire, earth, and water is rather difficult and portals are rare, most of these folk were conceived with djinn on the material plane, or else are born from families that already lived there. For some reason, Cartuccia has a higher population of genasi compared to any nation of Faerûn. They oddly tend to live either in Ellista, near the border of the Kissimmee refuge, or head to the frontier. **Subraces available: Air, Earth, Fire, Water.** ### Goblinoids and Other Monstrous Races Rarely, monstrous individuals and goblinoids other than hobgoblins find themselves in Cartuccia. As rare and often reviled sights, be prepared to be distrusted at best and persecuted at worst. While populous in Faerûn, immigration isn't easy for these usually villainous folk, so they are rather rare. **Bugbear:** Occasionally find their ways across the ocean as stowaways or pirates. They most often turn to crime or join minotaur pirate bands. **Goblins:** Of these races, goblins have the most luck in joining Cartuccian society. Most of them join hobgoblin families and barely stay out of trouble. Treated as second-class citizens, they have no issues repaying the favor, fleecing the gullible and mocking the foolish. **Kobolds:** These small folk sometimes find their ways over the ocean and prefer to gather in urban centers. Without much chance to congregate under dragons, they usually are rather docile and are often exploited as cheap labor. Just don't try to invade their apartments. Some individuals attempt to head west to connect with the Dragonborn tribes, who they hope to find some kinship with. **Orcs:** As most half-orcs have left their savage orcish heritage in the past, orcs aren't taken welcome to in Cartuccia. A few have probably found their way to the new world and probably inhabit the wilds to the west or dabble in crime. ### Minotaur Hailing from Chessenta and the surrounding seas in Faerûn, minotaur have flourished in Cartuccia, especially in the marine environment of the southern sea surrounding Puerto Aetharno. Many take up lives as pirates, criminal enforcers, or seaborne adventurers. Minotaur invariably operate in groups, always followers in need of a guide or born leaders seeking out a posse. For this tendency to form gangs and resort to violence, minotaur carry a social stigma similar to what half-orcs suffer back in Faerûn. Be careful, as a "bull in the china shop" joke is the quickest way to earn a new orifice in south. ### Tortle A race rare even back in Faerûn, the tortle are a reserved and relaxed folk, often good-hearted and wise beyond their years. Tortle do not have much of a set culture in Cartuccia, most being individuals who immigrated alone from their tropical archipelago home to adventure Cartuccia and help the downtrodden. Tortle are generally welcomed as pleasant visitors and ensure that they repay any kindness they receive on their travels. **Age: The ages for Tortle in canon are bullshit. They live lifespans comparable to Dwarves.**

\page ### Warforged Though the Territory of Greyloch and its gnomish research institutions often try to claim a monopoly on the advancement of Cartuccia's magitech sector, they do have competitors, the most successful of which operate in the territory of Clevaland to the west. Miraculously, the personal R&D team of one of the richest and most powerful nobles in the territory (an off-and-on again governor) has recently managed to create artificial life. The warforged, named so simply to exude a tough air to interested investors, are a sentient race of constructs. The creators of these folk are very secretive of the methods and materials needed to create life itself, but many theorize that the warforged tap into the very latent magics that power the rest of Cartuccia's magitech to survive. Regardless of their inner workings, warforged are often impressionable and curious folk, oftentimes facing struggles of morality and self-discovery in their lives. Most warforged are individuals set free as part of an "open beta test" phase that began a few decades ago out of Clevaland. Hopefully they aren't recalled to the factory! **Subraces available: Envoy, Juggernaut, Skirmisher.** ## Rare Races No one's even sure if these races really exist or not. Some of them are mere urban legend, but there's always a first for anything. Note that if you play one of these guys, you'll probably be ostracized, treated with wonder and suspicion, or feared and you'll be pretty special snowflakey. ### Githyanki and Githzerai Urban legend tells of an odd race of alien creatures from a place even beyond the outer planes. The name Gith rests on the lips of those who tell such tales, who are often shunned as mad. But could there be a race of oddities that travel places further than the universe? ### Coldblooded Folk. **Lizardfolk:** Legends tell of a race of tribal lizardfolk living to the far south of the unexplored continent. Only a few have ever been seen, but they could probably pass themselves off as a dragonborn to the average ignorant Cartuccian. **Grung:** Yet another race rumored to live to the south. these folk, beastfolk that are similar to tropical treefrogs, are confirmed to exist by sailors who have dared brave the dangerous seas. Their shorebound villages can be observed from far away, but none have dared to get close after ol' Salty Brian was killed by a poison dart at 300 feet. ### Revenant The land of Cartuccia is one of opportunity and adventure, and unfortunately those involve someone getting the short end of the deal. Perhaps one severely wronged in life could raise to travel the Union once more... *Probably would only allow this in a short adventure, not a long-term campaign.* # Dragonmarks Hidden far across Toril and the various planes of existence lie hidden and bizarre places of compiled knowledge and wonder. These esoteric libraries hold information on the various planes of existence, but if a visitor were bold enough to dig deeper, one could find details on even more exotic places. Tomes bound in odd leathers and synthetic materials, written exclusively in the language of the Gith, would detail impossible accounts of other worlds; encyclopedias of places beyond the watery veils of reality and the stars themselves. Were one to find these accounts, perhaps a record of a magical society and the magical families and houses that dominated it would seem oddly familiar to a modern Cartuccian... Of the races of humanoids that inhabit Cartuccia, some have longer histories than others. The eleven races most common in Cartuccia-dwarves, elves, halflings, humans, gnomes, half-orcs, tieflings, kenku, tabaxi, hobgoblins, and goliath-have all held their places in the Union for centuries, and these races have one other thing in common-the ability to be graced by a *Dragonmark*. Once in a blue moon, a member of these races will be born under a vibrant evening sky and will emerge from the womb bearing a Dragonmark, a mysterious birthmark bearing a resemblance to a word in draconic script. This shimmering, almost mobile birthmark grants both magical skill and mundane affinity for certain arts and professions. Each of the races able to manifest a Dragonmark has an affinity for one specific mark. And all born with this power feel the same internal fire for adventure and excitement burn within them, as well as an odd, almost ingrained connection to the dragonborn and their language within them. ###### *Mechanical rules for Dragonmarks can be found in the Wayfarer's Guide to Eberron. Dragonmarked dwarves, elves, halflings, and gnomes have their subraces replaced with the following features. Dragonmarked humans and hobgoblins are considered variant races that replace normal traits associated with those races. Dragonmarked half-elves, tieflings, kenku, half-orcs, goliath, and tabaxi are variant races, replacing some, but not all of the normal race's traits.* ### Universal: To be born with a Dragonmark, one must be born on Cartuccian soil, though need not be of Cartuccian nationality. As one born with a Dragonmark, you have an affinity for draconic. You can speak, read, and write draconic. If you already speak draconic, choose between pimordial or sylvan instead. You also gain Dragonborns' **Solubility** trait, but you omit the last sentence, meaning you can take the damage more often.

Honestly, these city folk need better locks n' safes if they don't want me rustlin' their C-notes fer as long as I can.* ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Dexterity and Intelligence scores both increase by 1 and your Constitution score increases by 2. ***Master of Locks.*** When you make an Intelligence (History), Intelligence (Investigation), or Thieves' Tools check involving lock and trap mechanisms, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add the number rolled to the ability check. ***Wards and Seals.*** You can use your mark to cast the *alarm* spell once before finishing a long rest. Starting at 3rd level you can cast *arcane lock* once with this trait and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells. ### Kenku: The Mark of Shadow ###### *The sound of a woman's shrieks draw you into the building, sword drawn. Snickers of a an unseen goblin family put you on edge, distracting you from a lanky, blue-feathered being peeling itself from the gloom not three feet from your back. Your own sudden yell of pain impossibly mocks you as a dirk enters your spine and the kenku thief downs her prey.* As a Dragonmarked kenku, you lose your ***Expert Forgery***, ***Kenku Training***, and ***Ability Score Increase*** features, instead gaining the following features: ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Dexterity score, Charisma score, and one other score of your choice all increase by 1. ***Gift of the Shadows.*** When you make a Charisma (Performance) or Dexterity (Stealth) check, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add the number rolled to the ability check. ***Darkvision.*** You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. ***Shape Shadows.*** You know the *minor illusion* cantrip. Starting at 3rd lvel, you can cast *darkness* once with this trait and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells. ***Slip Into Shadow.*** You can use the Hide action as a bonus action, even if you have no cover or if you're under observation. Regardless of whether you succeed or fail, once you use this ability, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest. ### Hobgoblin: The Mark of Scribing ###### *I was once accused of my ancestry's guilt in goblin raids back in Faerûn- little pest of a halfling walked right up to my desk and started ranting and raving. The nerve, honestly. It only took an invitation to go through my self-compiled genealogy records together to scare him off though. And thank Columbia that he was, they weren't even well-forged. I was feeling sick that week.* As a Dragonmarked hobgoblin, you lose your ***Ability Score Increase***, ***Martial Training*** and ***Saving Face*** features, instead gaining the following features. ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Intelligence score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1. ***Gifted Scribe.*** You are proficient with calligrapher's supplies and forgery kits. When you make an ability check using either one of these tools, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add the number rolled to the ability check. ***Scribe's Insight.*** You can cast *comprehend languages* once with this trait, and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for it. ***Whispering Wind.*** You know the cantrip *message*. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability when casting it. ***Extra Language.*** You can speak, read, and write one extra language of your choice. ### Half-Elves: The Mark of Detection ###### *We who walk the lines of civilization are more common over in this neck of the woods, but it's still hard, you know? You grow up either far too ahead or behind of your peers, you're treated as a spectacle at best or untrustworthy at worst, and even the most diverse places feel unfitting, especially when you're even weirder like I am because of this thing. You get a kind of a sense of how to protect yourself eventually. I guess I'm blessed in that regard though, huh?* As a Dragonmarked half-elf, you lose your ***Ability Score Increase*** and ***Fey Ancestry*** features, instead gaining the following features. ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Intelligence score, Charisma score, and one other score of your choice each increase by 1. ***Deductive Intuition.*** When you make an Intelligence (Investigation) or Wisdom (Insight) check, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add the number rolled to the ability check. ***Sense Threats.*** You can cast the *detect magic* and *detect poison and disease* spells, but only as rituals. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells. ### Tabaxi: The Mark of Storm ###### *Humans have an old folk tale that cats detest water more than anything, and that has extended to our people. Hah! What foolishness! Many of us embrace the seas and rivers, for where do stories travel better than on boats and in ports? I've heard some of us are born bonded even closer to the sea than the rest of us as well.* As a Dragonmarked tabaxi, you lose your ***Ability Score Increase***, ***Cat's Talents*** and ***Feline Agility*** features, instead gaining the following features. ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Dexterity score, Charisma score, and one other score of your choice each increase by 1. ***Seabound Feline.*** Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swim speed of 30 feet. ***Windwright's Intuition.*** When you make a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check or any ability check involving operating or maintaining a water or air vehicle, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add the number rolled to the ability check. ***Storm's Blessing.*** You have resistance to lightning damage as well as acid damage taken from contact with water. Drinking pure water is possible for you unlike other dragonmarked folk, but it burns like strong liquor going down. Swimming creates an intense, invigorating tickling sensation at the base of your fur. If you later gain resistance to lighting damage from a class feature, you instead gain resistance to acid damage as a whole ***Headwinds.*** You know the *gust* cantrip. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for it.

Good work, my daughter.* As a Dragonmarked elf, you lose your ***Ability Score Increase*** and ***Fey Ancestry*** features. ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Wisdom score, Dexterity score, and one other score of your choice each increase by 1. ***Hunter's Intuition.*** Your mark sharpens your senses and helps you find your prey. When you make a Wisdom (Perception) or Wisdom (Survival) check, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add the number rolled to the ability check. ***Imprint Prey.*** As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The target is imprinted in your mind until it dies or you use this trait again. Alternatively, you can imprint a creature as your quarry whenever you succeed on a Wisdom (Survival) check to track it. When tracking your quarry, double the result of your Intuition die. When your quarry is within 60 feet of you, you have a sense of its location: it can't be hidden from you, gains no benefit from invisibility, and your attacks against it ignore half cover. Once you use this trait, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest. ***Nature's Voice.*** When you reach 3rd level you gain the ability to cast *locate animals or plants*, but only as a ritual. ### Tiefling: The Mark of Healing ###### *You see, apparently my grandmother always said that I and my father were born this way because of a heinous sin her ancestors had committed, and that our very beings are vile to the bone. If that's the case, why am I blessed with the power to so easily save lives and create mirth? In any case, I'm glad we left that old coot back in Waterdeep before I was born.* As a Dragonmarked tiefling, you lose your ***Ability Score Increase*** and ***Infernal Legacy*** features. ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Wisdom score increases by 1, and your Charisma score increases by 2. ***Ancestral Art.*** You gain proficiency with the Medicine skill and your choice of the Performance skill or one musical instrument of your choice. ***Medical Intuition.*** When you make a Wisdom (Medicine) check, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add the number rolled to the ability check. ***Healing Touch.*** As an action, you can draw power from your dragonmark to spend one of your Hit Dice and revitalize a creature you touch. Roll the die, add your Wisdom modifier, and the creature regains a number of hit points equal to the total. Alternatively, you may neutralize one poison or cure one disease plaguing it. ### Goliath: The Mark of Handling ###### *Phweeee! Alright pups, come back! Martha, get ready for 'em, they're gonna be hungry. What? Yeah, the usual- venison for Aspen, Avalanche, Heather, and Kenai. Oh, and there's half a bison carcass left over for Fluffy. Don't you mind the tentacles, he's friendly. Just don't let him lick ya, though.* As a Dragonmarked goliath, you lose your ***Ability Score Increase***, ***Natural Athlete***, and ***Stone's Endurance*** features. ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Strength score increases by 1, your Wisdom score increases by 1, and one other score of your choice increases by 1. ***Wild Intuition.*** When you make a Wisdom (Animal Handling) or Intelligence (Nature) check, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add the number rolled to the ability check. ***Expert Handling.*** You can use the Help action to aid an ally animal companion or mount within 30 feet of you, rather than 5 feet of you. ***Primal Connection.*** You can cast *animal friendship* once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a short or long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell. ***The Bigger They Are.*** When you cast a spell that affects only beasts, it also affects monstrosities with an Intelligence score of 3 or lower. ### Gnomes: The Mark of Making ###### *Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking. "But Dr. Boondiggles, I thought you would have been the other type of doctor!" Well, you see sonny, sometimes you just get tired of hearing about how brilliant and talented your clan is at the art of artifice and it grinds and grinds on your psyche until you almost go mad and save yourself from it all by flipping them two birds and running away to Ellista to become one of the best damn surgeons in the country without the help of your stereotype-laden family fortune. Does that answer your question? ...Huh? Your pocketwatch is broken? Damntation, ok, give it here then. You're lucky I'm a natural hand at this garbage.* As a Dragonmarked gnome, you lose your ***Ability Score Increase*** and ***Gnome Cunning*** features. ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Dexterity score increases by 1, your Intelligence score increases by 1, and your choice of one of those two scores increases by 1 once again. ***Artisan's Intuition.*** When you make an ability check with artisan's tools, roll 1d4 and add it to the result. ***Maker's Gift.*** You know the cantrip *mending* and gain proficiency with one type of artisan's tools of your choice. ***Magecraft.*** You can create a temporary magic item out of common materials. Choose a cantrip from the wizard spell list. Describe the item connected to it. As long as you possess the item, you know that cantrip. At the end of a long rest, you can replace it with a new item and select a new cantrip from the wizard spell list. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these cantrips. ***Spellsmith.*** You can spend one minute to weave a temporary enchantment into a nonmagical suit of armor or weapon. For the next hour the object becomes a magic item, gaining a +1 bonus to AC if it is armor or a +1 bonus to hit and damage if it is a weapon. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest. ### Halflings: The Mark of Hospitality ###### *No history? Hehe, I guess the taller folk have us there, we were never very ambitious were we? But I think that what we lack in kingdoms we make up for in friends. And take a look at my arm-looks like whatever blue moon shone on my ma when she was heavy with me agrees! This little beaut has helped me make this here diner the most popular in all of Chesapeake. You go out in town and you see all these folk with exciting histories, their own patron gods, tusks, wings, all that jazz. But I always remember how we've made our history and cultures by just moving 'round the world rather than being born with 'em. It's kind of nice that our claim to fame is just worming our way into every part of the planes that we please. And I thank whoever created me every day for the chance to make that history my own.* As a Dragonmarked human, you lose your ***Ability Score Increase*** feature. ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and one other score of your choice increases by 1. ***Adventurer's Speed.*** Your base walking speed increases to 40 ft. ***Intuitive Motion.*** When you make a Strength (Athletics) check or any ability check to operate or maintain a land vehicle, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add the number rolled to the ability check. ***Determined Stride.*** When you use the Dash action, difficult terrain doesn't cost you extra movement on that turn. ***Run Like the Wind*** You can cast the spells *longstrider*, *jump*, and *expeditious retreat* targeting yourself. Once you cast a spell using this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. ***Shared Passage.*** As a bonus action you can teleport a distance up to your walking speed, ending in an unoccupied space that you can see. You can bring one willing creature of your size or smaller who is carrying gear up to its carrying capacity. The creature must be within 5 feet of you when you use this trait. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest. ### Half-Orc: The Mark of Sentinel ###### *Ya know, sometimes I just wake up, go up to the roof, and look at the moon and thank my lucky stars I was born here. We Steelskins are lucky, y'know? People like us here. We don't have sticks and stones thrown at us in towns or eyes on our backs in every tavern like I've heard we do in Faerûn. But even then, sometimes you walk to the market and those eyes... those fresh off the boat follow you and you feel their glares like daggers. One... one tried to pull a knife on my boyfriend and I felt it. The rage my nanna always talked about. She had one of these too. It's like a guard dog is clawing at your skin to be let out and tear into whatever threat presents itself to you and your loved ones. I'm just lucky I jumped in the way and that he ran off terrified at the knife in my ribs not doing a thing. Guess I should be on my guard from here on out.* As a Dragonmarked half-orc, you lose your ***Ability Score Increase***, ***Menacing*** and ***Savage Attacks*** features. ***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Strength score increases by 1, your Wisdom score increases by 1, and one other score of your choice increases by 1. ***Sentinel's Intuition.*** When you roll for Initiative or make a Wisdom (Perception) check to notice a threat, you can roll one Intuition die, a d4, and add it to the ability check. ***Sentinel's Shield.*** You know the cantrip *blade ward*. You can cast *shield* once with this trait and regain the ability to do so after you finish a short or long rest. ***Vigilant Guardian.*** As an action, you can designate an ally you can see as your ward. You have advantage on Wisdom (Insight) and Wisdom (Perception) checks made to spot threats to your ward. In addition, when you are within 5 feet of your ward, and that creature is the target of an attack that you can see, you can use your reaction to swap places with your ward. When you do, you become the target of the attack. \page ## New and Edited Spells #### Ishtar's Incredible Inkantation *1st-level transmutation (ritual)* **Casting Time**: 1 minute **Range**: Touch **Components:** V, S, M (a small needle and an empty inkwell) **Duration:** Instantaneous You touch a creature's skin and ink spreads from your fingertips into their skin. When you cast this spell, you can create a black ink tattoo of your choosing that immediately appears on the skin of a willing creature. If the target of the spell has fur, feathers, scales, or a shell instead of skin, the tattoo may appear there instead as a pattern of differently colored fur, scales, and so on. If you cast this spell again on a creature affected by it, you may erase the tattoo, causing the ink to retreat into your fingertips. Alternatively, when you cast this spell as a ritual, you may choose to transfer an existing tattoo from one willing creature to another willing creature that you are touching. **At Higher Levels.** If you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you may include an additional color of ink in the tattoo for each slot level above 1st. #### On/Off *transmutation cantrip* **Casting Time**: 1 action **Range**: 60 feet **Components:** V, S **Duration:** Instantaneous This cantrip allows you to activate or deactivate any mechanical device within range, as long as the device has a clearly defined on or off function that can be easily accessed from the outside of the device. #### Infallible Relay *1st-level divination* **Casting Time**: 1 minute **Range**: Self **Components:** V, S, M (a small round stone and a small straight twig or stick) **Duration:** Instantaneous With this spell, you can target any creature with whom you have spoken previously, as long as the two of you are on the same plane of existence. When you cast the spell, the nearest functioning telegram receiver within 1 mile of the target begins to tap out a message of up to 15 words of your choosing. If there is no suitable device close enough to the target, the spell fails. The closest creature must make a successful Charisma saving throw or be compelled to decode and deliver the message to the target, which it does regardless of its knowledge, or lack thereof, of Morse code. The creature will then attempt to deliver the telegram within 24 hours of decoding it, either in person or by proxy.

#### Find Vehicle *1st-level transmutation (ritual)* **Casting Time**: 10 minutes **Range**: 30 feet **Components:** V, S **Duration:** 8 hours You summon a spirit that assumes the form of a nonmilitary land vehicle of your choice, appearing in an unoccupied space within range. The vehicle has the statistics of a normal vehicle of its sort, though it is celestial, fey, or fiendish (your choice in origin). The physical characteristics of the vehicle reflect its origin to some degree. For example, a fiendish wagon might be made of jet black burned wood, with skeletal horses and wheels that leave hellfire trails. You have a supernatural bond with the conjured vehicle that allows you to drive beyond your normal ability. While driving the conjured vehicle, you are considered proficient with vehicles of its type, and you add double your proficiency bonus to ability checks related to driving the vehicle. While driving the vehicle, you can make any spell you cast that targets only you also target the vehicle. If the vehicle drops to 0 hit points, it disappears, leaving behind no physical form. You can also dismiss the vehicle at any time as an action, causing it to disappear. You can't have more than one vehicle bonded by this spell at a time. As an action, you can release the vehicle from its bond at any time, causing it to disappear. **At Higher Levels.** When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you can conjure a nonmilitary water vehicle large enough to carry six Medium creatures. #### Remote Access *1st-level transmutation* **Casting Time**: 1 action **Range**: 120 feet **Components:** V, S **Duration:** 10 minutes You can use any mechanical device within range as if it were in your hands. You are able to access only functions that a person using the device manually would be able to access. You can use remote access with only one device at a time. #### Haywire *3rd-level enchantment* **Casting Time**: 1 action **Range**: 90 feet **Components:** V, S **Duration:** Concentration, up to 1 minute This spell plays havoc with Galva conductor, coal, and steam-powered devices, making the use of such devices all but impossible. Each such device in a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on a point you choose within range is subject to random behavior while it remains within the area. A device not held by a creature is automatically affected. If an eligible device is held by a creature, that creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or have the device affected by the spell. At the start of each of your turns, roll a d6 for each affected device to determine its behavior. Except where otherwise indicated, that behavior lasts until the start of your next turn while this spell is in effect.

The target isn't inconvenienced by mundane delays of any sort. Crossroads always clear fortuitously, there's always a waiting elevator, and a taxi is always around the corner. The target can run at full speed through dense crowds, and attacks of opportunity provoked by the target's movement are made with disadvantage. *Synchronicity* grants advantage to Dexterity (Stealth) checks, since the target always finds a handy piece of cover available. Additionally, the target has advantage on all ability checks made to drive a vehicle. In the event that two or more creatures under the effect of *synchronicity* are attempting to avoid being inconvenienced by each other, the creatures engage in a contest of Charisma each time the effects of the spells would oppose each other.

#### Commune with City *5th-level divination (ritual)* **Casting Time**: 1 minute **Range**: Self **Components:** V, S **Duration:** Instantaneous You briefly become one with the city and gain knowledge of the surrounding area. Aboveground, this spell gives you knowledge of the area within 1 mile of you. In sewers and other underground settings, you gain knowledge of the area within 600 feet of you. You instantly gain knowledge of up to three facts of your choice about any of the following subjects as they relate to the area: * Terrain and bodies of water * Prevalent buildings, plants, animals, or intelligent creatures * Powerful (CR 1 or higher) celestials, fey, fiends, elementals, or undead * Influences from other planes of existence * Galva conductors and other sources of energy, and active transit lines and tracks For example, you could determine the location of powerful undead in the area, the location of major sources of refined magical power or interference, and the location of any nearby parks. #### Shutdown *5th-level transmutation* **Casting Time**: 1 action **Range**: 120 feet **Components:** V, S **Duration:** Concentration, up to 1 minute This spell shuts down all powered (Galva conductor, steam, etc) mechanical devices within range that are not wielded by or under the direct control of a creature. If an eligible device within range is used by a creature, that creature must succeed on a Constitution saving throw to prevent the device from being shut down. \page ### Divine Domain: Joy Usonia is the youngest of the three greater goddesses that watch over Cartuccia's people, but she is perhaps the most beloved of them among the common people, and her clerics carry the same reputation. With hearts full of love and joy for anyone who will except it, Joy clerics worship Usonia by spreading cheer and ensuring no living being is deprived of its right to pursue a better, happier existence. Especially beloved by children and the downtrodden, Joy clerics of Usonia spend considerable time crusading on the behalf of good, performing public service deeds and defusing violent situations before the innocent are hurt. As you cast, you may choose to cast the spell without somatic components and without causing the targeted creature to become hostile. You must complete a long rest before using this feature again. ### Heart to Heart Also at 1st level, you gain the ability to reach out and directly empathize with the souls of other creatures, feeling the presence of happiness in their heart, or perhaps the lack of it. As an action, you can touch a creature and magically know the creature's current emotional state. If the target fails a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC, you also know the creature's alignment. The creature knows you have a deeper understanding of it, but not exactly how. Celestials, Fiends, and Undead automatically fail the saving throw. If the target succeeds on its saving throw, it is immune to this feature for 24 hours. You may use this insight a number of times per day equal to your Wisdom modifier. ### Channel Divinity: Full Hearts, Fearless Friends Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to remove the specters of doubt and despair from the hearts of your allies, turning it back on those who would dare extinguish the light of happiness. As an action, choose a number of creatures up to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1) that you can see within 30 feet of you. For one minute, these creatures gain temporary hit points equal to your cleric level and have advantage on any saving throws against being frightened, charmed, and paralyzed. When the minute ends, the targets lose any remaining temporary hit points from this feature. If the targets are frightened, charmed, or paralyzed when you use your channel divinity, they instead gain temporary hit points equal to twice your cleric level and may also immediately make saving throws against every effect they're suffering causing the above conditions that allows a save at the start or end of their turns. ### Channel Divinity: Hearth and Home Starting at 6th level, you can use your Channel Divinity to create a temporary home away from home. At the beginning of a long or short rest, you can channel the protective divinity of Usonia to help guard your respite. At the start of the rest, you touch a point on a flat surface such as the ground or a wall, and a camouflaged 5 square foot chimney opening opens up centered on that point. When inside, you may magically conceal or reveal the entrance as an action. A concealed entrance can be detected by a successful Investigation check against your spell save DC or a successful Perception check against your spell save DC + 5. Barricading or locking the entrance is impossible. The shelter contains a holy symbol of Usonia and a set of cook's utensils that you are proficient with when you are inside the shelter. Otherwise, the shelter appears how you choose, containing space enough for up to six medium creatures to rest comfortably. Any creature that rests in this shelter recovers from trauma more readily. At the end of a long rest, they recover an extra spent hit die and may reduce their level of exhaustion by two instead of one. At the end of a short rest, they may count a number of hit dice rolls up to their Constitution modifier as having rolled their maximum possible value instead of rolling. ### Potent Spellcasting Starting at 8th level, you add your Wisdom modifier to the damage you deal with any Cleric cantrip. ### Usonian Entourage At 17th level, you can call a lift directly from Usonia herself. She left the keys in there for you and everything! As an action, you may summon the famed sleigh of Usonia to a location within 30 feet of you. This sleigh is a Huge land vehicle that seats up to nine medium creatures, can hold up to 5,000 pounds, and is pulled by nine invincible Giant Elk. The frontmost elk sheds bright light out to a radius of 30 feet and dim light out to a radius of 90 feet. These elk will never perform hostile actions against another creature, but will follow your commands otherwise. Only you or another devout of Usonia may drive the sleigh. Friendly creatures within the sleigh are protected by a ward of goodwill and cheer which provides the effects of a *protection from evil and good* spell. The sleigh has a speed of 60 ft when pulled by all nine elk. If the sleigh moves in a straight line for two rounds in a row without stopping, the sleigh gains a flying speed of 120 ft. If the sleigh maintains this speed for an additional two rounds, you may use your action on your turn to instantly teleport the sleigh and everything in it to your choice of the last three locations you used your Channel Divinity: Hearth and Home feature.

\page The sleigh then disappears, safely ejecting everything in it 5 feet to the side. Otherwise, the sleigh is recalled to Fraternité one hour after summoning it. You must finish a long rest before using this feature again. This feature may not be used on the 24th of Nightal. ### Bardic College: College of Structure Contrary to popular belief, the Bardic arts aren't completely pigeonholed into those of musical minstrels, traveling performers, and blessed singers. The entire spectrum of the creative arts can serve as the inspiration to manipulate the Weave for those filled with creativity enough to try. Every so often a collection of like-minded bards will gather in Oprey, the capital of Lordston, and petition to the Governor to form a new college to work their craft. One such college is the College of Structure. These bards take delight in the creativity of architecture. The aesthetics of the building itself and its furnishings, the planning and collaboration in its construction, and above all else, the stories that will occur inside those walls, are music enough to these bards' ears. In Oprey their university is a large stretch of land on the city limits. Each student is allowed their own few acres to bring their visions to life, and the college never looks the same any two terms as new projects are completed and replaced. As a student of the art of architecture, you likely have a signature style in the materials you use, the layout of the building, or the aesthetics of the place. The more you can say with less, the better. #### Firmitas When you join the College of Structure at 3rd level, you gain the ability to bring your designs to reality for split seconds to shelter your allies from harm. When a creature that you can see within 60 feet of you is targeted by an attack or makes a saving throw, you can use your reaction to expend one of your uses of Bardic Inspiration to cause an architectural feature of your choice to spring up into existence between them and the source of harm. The creature gains the benefit of half cover until the beginning of its next turn or until it moves away from the cover. Once while benefiting from this cover, if the target must make a Strength, Constitution, or Dexterity saving throw, you may roll your expended Bardic Inspiration die and add it to the creature's saving throw. The created cover takes the brunt of the force and then crumbles to dust, no longer offering its benefits. At 10th level, this feature instead offers three-quarters cover. #### Building Suspicion In your travels across Cartuccia, you have gained familiarity with its varied cities and their buildings, granting you an acute sense of the properties of structures you enter. Also at 3rd level, while inside a structure or dwelling created by an intelligent being, you have blindsight with a radius of 5 feet as well as advantage to detect the presence of illusions and traps and saving throws against them. You also know the direction of the nearest exit at all times. #### Architectural Specialty Also at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with your choice of either Carpenter's Tools or Mason's Tools. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses this tool proficiency. Your choice grants your *Utilitas* feature an additional facet when you reach 6th level in this class. #### Utilitas At 6th level, your deep understanding of structure allows you to manipulate the Weave into molding the physical space around you. As an action, you may cause one of the following effects to manifest within 30 feet of you. Spells cast through this feature are Bard spells for you. You may use this feature a number of times up to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1). You regain all expended uses after completing a long rest. * Teleport a willing creature you can see to an unoccupied space up to 10 feet away. This effect occurs instantaneously. * Create a staircase out of thin air. These stairs remain in place for 1 minute and can cover a maximum of 50 feet total vertically or horizontally. * You gain the ability to cast one the cantrips *mending*, *mold earth*, or *shape water* for one minute. You may cast the chosen cantrip as part of this action. * Cast the spell *sanctuary* without expending a spell slot. Depending on your Architectural Specialty, you gain an additional option for this feature: **Carpenter's Tools**: Your skill set revolves around the old world comfort afforded by stately and lovely wooden buildings of yore. You may cast *alarm* without expending a spell slot. The creaky and squeaky wood of such buildings offers natural protection against intruders, and you have captured that abjuration for your own use.

\page **Mason's Tools**: Your skill set concerns bending marble, stone, and other metals into powerful structures of grand impenetrability. You may cast *arcane lock* without expending a spell slot. This spell lasts for 48 hours or until dispelled. The security and protection that stone and metal offer allows you to abjure any who might seek to pass through your space unhindered. #### Venustas At 14th level, your travels have brought you to many beautiful places and incredible structures, perhaps some of your own design. It would be a crying shame not to visit some of them again. By performing a minute-long ritual, you may open a supernatural doorway to a man-made structure on the same plane of existence that you have entered. This doorway remains open for one minute or until you close it as an action, at which point it disappears with the sound of a slamming door. Any creature standing in the doorway at this time is harmlessly pushed 5 feet away from the door on the entrance side. The other end of the doorway opens up into an access point of your choice to the structure. The other side of the doorway appears as a smooth, flat plane of marble or mahogany wood, depending on your Architectural Specialty. You can't use this feature again for 7 days. If you designed, built, or otherwise had a major role in creating the targeted structure, you can't use this feature again for 24 hours and can target a structure on a different plane of existence than your current plane. ### Sacred Oath: Oath of the Cartuccian Dream The Oath of the Cartuccian Dream binds a paladin to upholding the faith and spirit of the ideals behind Cartuccia's creation. The values of equality, basic humanoid rights, liberty, and opportunity, while unfortunately not present at all times in Cartuccian society, are personified by these selfless paladins. These wandering champions, often called Yankee Knights or Columbards, usually worship one of the three patron goddesses of Cartuccia, most often gravitating towards Ellistine. These paladins travel Cartuccia sans hearth and home, protecting and supporting those in need and in peril whenever they can. Others even take the Dream overseas, traveling to far off lands to spread their holy ideals to lands in need of freedom and justice, quite literally bringing their nation along with them. ##### Tenets of the Cartuccian Dream The tenets of the Cartuccian Dream are a loose collection of the values Cartuccia was founded on. Each follower of this Oath may pursue them differently, but their patriotism is shared. **Equality and Humility**: Cartuccia was created under the assumption that all men are created equal, and you are to follow this principle. You are no better or worse than the citizenry you have sworn to serve. As a servant of Cartuccia and its people, uphold the possibility of a brighter future for all. Fight oppression by supporting virtuous leadership and striking down tyrants. **Insure domestic tranquility**: Defend the land of Cartuccia from destruction that would endanger daily life. Protect the opportunities and possibilities offered by this society. **Liberty**: Though you are beholden to supporting good and protecting the rights and lives of your people, do not trap yourself in quandaries of conflicting rules. Freedom is paramount to Cartuccia's very being, and that includes your own. Be true to your heart and values, ignoring custom and red tape to do what needs to be done to share this freedom across the world. **Justice**: Though Cartuccia is founded upon the very same principles as those of your oath, unfortunately individuals slip through the cracks. When you do so, choose a number of creatures up to your Charisma modifier that you can see within 30 feet of you. Each of them may immediately use their reaction to move up to their speed without provoking opportunity attacks. Until the beginning of your next turn, each of these creatures gain swimming and climbing speeds equal to their walking speed, if they don't have it already, as the land itself aids their flight. Magical geysers might burst to reach their feet as they glide across water, or perhaps cliffs themselves drag them up with animate vines. **Pledge of Equality**: As a reaction to an ally you can see within 30 feet of you receiving damage from another creature, you can use your Channel Divinity to protect their sovereignty. Your ally gains resistance to the triggering damage and the source of that damage must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they take force damage equal to what they inflicted, or half on a success. #### Aura of Liberty Starting at 7th level, all ground upon which you stride becomes Cartuccian soil. As you walk, the ground shifts and changes for a few moments, becoming as daunting and majestic as Cartuccia's unexplored wilds. While you are conscious, this aura extends 10 feet from you in every direction, but not through total cover. Ground touched by this aura becomes difficult terrain. While in the aura, creatures of your choice ignore difficult terrain and magical effects can't reduce their speed or cause them to be restrained. As you move, all ground affected by your aura retains its effect until the beginning of your next turn.

Draw lines over the spaces which you move through, and we'll just measure if an area is within 10/30 feet of that. Make sure to erase the lines at the beginning of your next turn. *Though your Aura of Liberty's effect may shift and change depending on the circumstances, it likely has a default effect on the land you stride on. At the beginning of your turn, choose whether to conquer your enemies or protect your citizens. If you choose to hinder your foes, all enemies on Cartuccian soil created by your *Aura of Liberty* take fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1). If you choose to aid your friends, all allies on Cartuccian soil created by your *Aura of Liberty* gain temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1). In addition, your standing long jump and high jump distances are equal to your speed. You do not suffer the effects of falling if you fall as a result of jumping. #### Avatar of the Cartuccian Dream At 20th level, you embody the virtues of the Cartuccian Dream, borrowing the hopes and ambitions of the citizenry to fuel your crusade of justice and freedom. As an action, you are surrounded by spectral ribbons of red, white, and blue, and leave behind specks of stardust as you move. You gain the following benefits for one minute: • You gain 30 feet of movement. • You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage • Reaction attacks against you are made with disadvantage. • Creatures of your choice can spend 5 feet of movement to automatically escape from any restraints while within your *Aura of Liberty*. • Creatures above or below the ground affected by your *Aura of Liberty* are considered to be on it. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

\page ### Sorcerous Origin: Spectral Sorcery The areas between and beyond the planes are horrifying regions that lack... everything. Accustomed to existence, mortal perception is boggled and warped in these places where the crushing silence of nonexistence is broken only by the endless screams of eldritch monsters that float aimlessly through this Void. These are the places that the souls of the dead briefly pass through shortly after death, and the souls of Spectral sorcerers are invariably touched by this void. Perhaps a temporary brush with death caused you to bring a mote of this horrible silence past the veil back with you, but regardless of a Specter's origin, most dismiss them as nonexistent superstition. By remaining but slight gusts in the wind and occasional gleams of blades in the dark, most Specters are happy to live up to such a reputation. To have visited this area, you are likely touched by death. Unlike most other sorcerers, your magic isn't bombastic and terrific, but subtle and duplicitous. You gain and may use the Subtle Spell Metamagic early and it costs 0 Sorcery Points for you when used on your sorcerer spells. #### Shinobi Lessons At 1st level, you have embraced the subtle ways your innate magic presents itself in and have trained yourself to compliment your talents. You gain proficiency with Thieves' Tools and the Stealth skill. #### The Mark At 6th level, your experience of the sensory deprivation of the Void makes you hypersensitive to the presence of foreign life forces, allowing you to easily locate the souls of others. If you move zero feet on your turn, you may spend one sorcery point to open your senses to the auras of others. Until the beginning of your next turn you gain blindsight with a radius of 30 feet and are considered to be under the effects of the *see invisibility* spell, but only for creatures. Creatures protected from divination magic are not affected by this feature. In addition, your body rebels against the thought of returning to the Void. You gain resistance to Necrotic damage. #### Pulse At 14th level, you learn to channel your magical power to enforce the oppressive silence of the Void onto reality. Once per long rest, you can focus your latent magics and consolidate them into a rune that appears on a small piece of parchment or a small trinket of your choosing. As an action, you may attach this object to a solid object and activate a Magical Counter-Measure Jammer, casting a special pair of versions of Mordenkainen's Private Sanctum and Guards and Wards. Creatures inside of the radius may not cast any Divination spells. These spells extend outward from the Jammer in a dome with a radius of up to 60 feet and last for one minute, at which point the MCM Jammer burns up in a ghostly flame. #### Screech At 18th level, you teeter your soul on the precipice between the lands of the dead and living, increasing your spectral power. While your MCM Jammer is active, you may use an action to spend 5 sorcery points to charge it with additional power, causing magical feedback to rack the souls of those around you with a Screech. All effects of the MCM Jammer's normal operations are halted during this effect and the range of the Jammer is reduced to a dome with a radius of 30 feet. As an action, you may cause the rune to return to its baseline effect and range. As per normal, the MCM Jammer lasts for one cumulative minute. while the MCM Jammer is charged, all hostile creatures of your choice in the range of your MCM Jammer must make a Charisma saving throw. On a failure, the creature takes 2d8 psychic damage and is stunned until the end of its next turn. On a successful saving throw, the creature is not stunned and takes half as much damage. A creature must repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns it ends in the radius of your MCM Jammer. A creature that succeeds on this saving throw can't be stunned by your Screech for 24 hours.

\page ### Primal Path: Path of the Lieutenant Barbarians who follow the Path of the Lieutenant are accustomed to getting what they want. Be it power, wealth, or pure pleasure, they achieve these things through brute force. Even if he lives for worldly desires and simple solutions, the Lieutenant rarely operates solely on his own terms and whims-his innate brutality and bloodlust requires both one to watch over and guide him and a person or responsibility he is tasked with looking over and leading, similar to a herding dog's needs. Overall, the Lieutenant is focused on breaking barriers both physical and figurative, and works best as part of a tight-knit, if not necessarily moral, family. Leaders and followers both, as a Lieutenant you likely have a guiding hand and a responsibility of your own. While you are raging, attacks from your allies towards hostile creatures within 5 feet of you deal additional damage equal to 1/4th of your Barbarian level (minimum of 1 damage). In addition, your presence bears down on the minds of those that try to ignore you. Every time a hostile creature within 5 feet of you targets a creature other than you with an attack or spell while you are raging, it takes psychic damage equal to your Rage damage bonus. #### Evil Eye Starting at level 6, your inner barbarism in the midst of combat is revealed-you revel in brutality and ultraviolence. While you are raging, whenever you kill a sentient creature, all hostile creatures within 15 feet of the corpse must make a Wisdom saving throw with a DC equal to the Overkill damage suffered by the slain by the finishing blow. On a failure, a creature takes psychic damage equal to your Rage damage bonus and it is frightened of you, its speed is set to 0, and it can't benefit from any boosts to its speed until the end of your next turn. #### Breach of Security Though you focus on enforcement through violence, by level 10 you consider other methods of getting what you want. You have received training from a craftsman in your family and have learned how to destroy objects efficiently. Any melee weapon attack you make against an object deals double damage, is a critical hit, and you may roll the weapon's damage die an additional three times, adding it to the damage roll. #### Full Force Forward By 14th level, your thirst to enforce your desires on others through violence pushes you to your limits when you are yourself brutalized. While you are raging and are reduced to below 1/3rd of your maximum HP, you gain the following benefits until your current HP total is raised above it: + Attack rolls against you are made with disadvantage. + On a successful hit with a melee attack, you may roll one of the weapon's damage dice an additional time, adding it to the damage roll. + You regain an amount of HP equal to 5 + your Constitution modifier at the end of each of your turns that you are conscious. + Whenever you make a saving throw, roll 1d6 and add the die to your saving throw total. If applying the bonus to a death saving throw total increases that total to 20 or higher, you gain the benefits of rolling a 20 on the d20. This feature still triggers if you are knocked to 0 HP while raging.

### The Cartuccian Calendar ###### The Cartuccian calendar is the same as that of the rest of Faerûn (and the real world). Every evening when twilight suddenly breaks, a beautiful sunset-esque phenomenon occurs where gigantic, beautiful, wispy clouds seem to burst forth from the sun. These displays of color led to the development of the 30 days a month, 12 months a year calendar. These clouds change their colors on a monthly rotation, restarting their cycle every year. Occasionally unprecedented color combinations appear, which have been taken as powerful omens in the past. These colors are usually adopted as symbols of events and holidays occurring in their given month. There are some scholars out there who claim the weeks used to be ten days before some great calamity. Pistols and muskets were and still are used widely, but skilled gunsmiths can create revolvers, hunting rifles, and shotguns using pricey materials and advanced techniques, making them much rarer. They are all martial weapons. Ten rounds cost 3 GP and weigh a pound per set. If a class' equipment pack lists a martial weapon of your choice, you may choose to start with a pistol or musket and 20 bullets. You can only suffer this damage once per minute. ### Feats ##### Crossbow Expert When it comes to firearms, the third bullet of Crossbow Expert has been changed to allow the user to make the bonus action attack with either a pistol or hand crossbow. The first bullet applies to firearms as well. Also keep in mind that it only allows the user to ignore the "loading" quality, not "reloading". ##### Lucky Yeah probably banned. Just slows the game down. ## Sorcerers #### Arcane Estuary Sorcerers of Cartuccia experience an extreme difference compared to those that practice elsewhere on the Material Plane. They also gain proficiency with pistols and muskets at level 1. #### Rogues Rogues gain proficiency with whips and pistols at level 1. #### Warlock Pact of the Blade now grants you the following additional benefits: * When you reach 5th level you can attack twice, instead of once, with your pact weapon when you take the Attack action. * * While wielding your pact weapon, you can use it as a spellcasting focus and you may perform somatic components with the hands weilding it. * ###### *The influence of your patron also allows you to mystically channel your will through a particular weapon. Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch one weapon that you are proficient with and that lacks the two-handed property. When you attack with that weapon, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls. This benefit lasts until you finish a long rest. If you later gain the Pact of the Blade feature, this benefit extends to every pact weapon you conjure with that feature, no matter the weapon's type.* As such, the Thirsting Blade Eldritch Invocation has been removed.
