## Round-Ears (Human) The bulk of the Hyrulean population is made up of humans, short-lived beings of great willpower and determination. Humans are split into four subraces as a result of extreme adaptations to life in Hyrule, but the most generic, typically called round-ears, is the only one widely called _human_ in conversation. This broad and unadapted form of human is the baseline against which the other peoples of the world are generally compared. ### Every Shape and Size Humans come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. There is no _typical_ appearance for humans as a whole, though most of the subraces have some small distinguishing traits. The most general type of human is called the Round-eared human, a variety with the same range of skintones, hair colors, and eye colors of all of the other human subraces, and of humans in our own world. A human may range in size from tall to short, from lean to fat, and from lanky to muscular. ### People of the Land Humans are one of the most adaptable races in the world, and this has been the source of their several tribal divisions, as the traits best suited to survival in extreme environments take root and dominance. There may be more subraces of humanity than those presented within this text, as humans adapt efficiently to the land they live in, both culturally and genetically. Humans adapt far more quickly than other races due to their relatively short lives, rarely living more than 100 years. ### Stability over Power Traditionally the various tribes of humans have governed themselves through monarchies and dictators, most of whom are hylians. Humans tend to lead their own small communities in a more egalitarian manner, however: every few years, a community will appoint a mayor, sheriff, or some other title of authority to represent the community outwardly, both on the large and small scales. Mayors are the most common of these temporary leaders, managing the affairs of the community for a short term before returning to their simple life after the next election or appointment. ### Driven by Life Being incredibly diverse, humans can adventure for any reason imaginable. They may seek fame or wealth for mundane or noble means, they may simply seek to find goods to seel for their family's sake, or relief from a boring and predictable life. They may seek to save a life or prolong their own. ``` ``` > #### Round-ears and other Humans > > Round-ears humans tend to be simple to read, literate, and capable in their family's profession. They tend to develop passion for what they do, rather than pursuing deeds they are passionate about to begin with, but live simple daily lives. > > **Hylians.** Humans sometimes consider hylians to be lazy, entitled, and out of touch with other humans. While their relations are on good terms, there is a tension below the surface in most cases. > > **Gerudo.** Humans tend to empathize with the difficult lives of gerudo, while still fearing them through the many stories of gerudo thieves. > > **Sheikah.** Humans look at the sheikah as mysterious, strange, and scary. Most humans know only legends about the sheikah, which depict them as assassins and elite bodyguards. ### Round-ears Traits As a round-ears human, you have the following traits. **Ability Score Increase.** Increase two ability score of your choice by 2. **Age.** Round-ears humans are recognized as adults at 17 and rarely live to see a full century. **Alignment.** Round-ears humans tend to be neutral or good. **Size.** Humans typically stand between 5 and 6 feet tall, with any sort of build. Your size is Medium. **Speed.** Your base walking speed is 30 feet. **Call of Nature.** You gain proficiency in the Animal Handling and Nature skills. **Talented Cook.** You are able to mix natural ingredients together with skill. A meal prepared by a round-ears human may be eaten within 24 hours to recover hit points equal to 1d8 + the cook's proficiency bonus. No character or creature may gain this benefit more than once per long rest.
