A discipline requires you to spend ki points each time you use it. You know the Earth Attunement discipline and two other disciplines of your choice, which are detailed in the “Earth Disciplines” section below. You learn two additional earth disciplines of your choice at 6th, 11th, and 17th level. Whenever you learn a new earth discipline, you can also replace one earth discipline that you already know with a different discipline. ***Casting Elemental Earth Spells.*** Some earth disciplines allow you to cast spells. See the Spellcasting section for the general rules of spellcasting. To cast one of these spells, you use its casting time and other rules, but you don’t need to provide material components for it. #### Earth Disciplines The earth disciplines are presented in alphabetical order. If a discipline requires a level, you must be that level in this class to learn the discipline. ***A Gripping Impression.*** You can spend 3 ki points to press into the earth and cast *[Maximilian’s earthen grasp](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:maximilians-earthen-grasp)*. (6th Level Required) ***Earthen Attunement.*** You can use your action to briefly control elemental earth forces within 30 feet of you, causing one of the following effects of your choice: * Create a harmless, instantaneous sensory effect related to earth, such as a gentle rumbling of stone. * Chill or warm up to 1 pound of earth or stone for up to 1 hour. * Cause earth that can fit within a 1-foot cube to shape itself into a crude form you designate for 1 minute. * Target an area of loose earth no larger than a 5-foot cube, and instantaneously excavate it, move it along the ground, and deposit it up to 5 feet away. This movement doesn’t have enough force to cause damage. * Cause shapes, colors, or both to appear on the dirt or stone with a 5-foot cube, spelling out words, creating images, or shaping patterns. The changes last for 1 hour. * Target earth or stone on the ground within a 5-foot cube and cause it to become [difficult terrain](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat#DifficultTerrain). Alternatively, you can cause the ground to become normal terrain if it is already difficult terrain. This change lasts for 1 hour. ***Earthen Endurance.*** You can spend 1 ki point to cast *[blade ward](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:blade-ward)*. ***Eternal Mountain Defense (11th Level Required).*** You can spend 5 ki points to cast *[stoneskin](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:stoneskin)*, targeting yourself. ***Falling Boulder.*** The first time on your turn that you hit with a melee weapon attack or an unarmed strike, you can encase your strike in stone and deal an extra 2d6 bludgeoning damage to the target. On a failed save, the creature takes 2d10 bludgeoning damage, plus an extra 1d10 bludgeoning damage for each additional ki point you spend, and you can push the creature up to 20 feet away from you and knock it [prone](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/appendix-a-conditions#Prone). On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage, and you don’t push it or knock it [prone](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/appendix-a-conditions#Prone). ***Rocky Defense (6th Level Required).*** You can spend 3 ki points to cast *[spike growth](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:spike-growth)*. ***Sand Shield (11th Level Required).*** You can spend 4 ki points to cast *[wall of sand](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:wall-of-sand)*. ***Stone Stance(11th Level Required).*** You can spend 4 ki points to cast *[meld into stone](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:meld-into-stone)*. ***Stone Vibrato.*** You can spend 2 ki points to cast *[earth tremor](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:earth-tremor)*. ***Till the Soil (11th Level Required).*** You can spend 4 ki points to cast *[earth tremor](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:earth-tremor)* as a 3rd-level spell or to cast *[erupting earth](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:erupting-earth)*. ***Unfettered Entropy (17th Level Required).*** You can spend 6 ki points to cast *[earth tremor](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:earth-tremor)* as a 5th-level spell or to cast *[erupting earth](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:erupting-earth)* as a 5th-level spell. ***Wave of Rolling Earth (17th Level Required).*** You can spend 6 ki points to cast *[wall of stone](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:wall-of-stone)*. ***Wax on, Wax off (17th Level Required).*** You can spend 6 ki points to cast *[transmute rock](http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell:transmute-rock)*.
