```metadata title: Drosera description: '' tags: [] systems: [] renderer: V3 theme: 5ePHB ``` ## Drosera In the deep jungle, a small, unassuming bush lies in the middle of a copse, roots extending in all directions. From it arises a single large flower. Peering into it, a strange sight can be seen. Are those... teeth? No, surely not. An even stranger compulsion arises as the sight begins to become more unusual still. Vines lashing, roots lifting out of the ground. You catch one final glimpse of the Drosera before finding yourself within its clutches, another easy meal. ### Plant People Drosera are plant-folk; sentient, sapient plants with vaguely humanoid shapes, but capable of hiding themselves in a more traditionally plant-like guise. What form these beings take varies greatly, but most have forms similar to trees, ferns, bushes, or flowers. All Drosera are carnivorous and photosynthesizing, drawing energy both from the meat they consume and the sun, able to sustain themselves on either. ### Alone at Birth Drosera reproduce by either emitting spores or planting seeds that they slowly produce. They are rarely sedentary for long, and are almost always far away by the time germination completes and a new Drosera is born. Drosera are born with innate knowledge of their surroundings, what local fauna are safe for consumption, and whether their environment produces enough sunlight to need to eat meat. ### Drosera Names Drosera have no name at birth, and usually accept no name until they are fully mature. When a Drosera comes to maturation, it chooses a name for itself. Drosera often choose to name themselves based on the method of their feeding, such as by Chompy, Hannibal, Snaps, Carnivine, Smiley, or Gobbler for Drosera which use venus fly trap-like trigger hair 'mouths' to eat. Sinkhole, Cups, Nepenthe, or Honeypot for a Drosera which uses pitcher traps to eat. ### Drosera Traits Your Drosera has a set of traits which represent their plant-like form and natural tendencies. **Ability Score Increase.** Increase an ability score of your choice by 2, and a different ability score of your choice by 1. Most Drosera choose to increase their Constitution score by 2 and either their Dexterity or Strength score by 1 **Age.** Drosera begin their lives as saplings, slowing growing in both size and intelligence until they are about 8 years old, at which point they reach maturity. Drosera will continue to slowly grow, reaching about 10 feet tall by the age of 200, the natural end of a Drosera's lifespan **Alignment.** Drosera are not inclined toward any particular alignment. **Size.** Drosera never entirely stop growing through their natural lifespan. By the age of maturity, a Drosera is usually around 4-5 feet tall. As the Drosera grows older, they can reach heights of 8-10 feet tall by the end of their lifespan. Your size is Medium. **Languages.** You can speak, read, and write Common, sylvan, and one language of your choice. **Speed.** Your base walking speed is 30 feet. **Carnivorous Photosynthesizer.** If you spend at least 4 hours in direct sunlight over the course of a day, you do notrequire food. You must still consume water as normal. Drosera are carnivorous by nature, and cannot not eat plant matter. **Perfect Disguise.** If you remain stationary for at least one minute in a location which has other plants that you can see within 60 feet of you, you are under the effects of the Pass Without Trace spell. You immediately lose this benefit if you begin moving. **Plant.** Your creature type is Plant, rather than Humanoid. **Earthen Adaptation.** Drosera originate from many kinds of plants, each with their own adaptations to most effectively harvest their environments. Choose one of the following adaptations. *Lashing Vines*. During your turn, your reach is increased by 5 feet. *Oaken Body.* You use your Constitution modifier in place of Dexterity when determining your AC. *Snapping Leaves.* Your eating appendage has developed for use in combat. You gain a Flytrap natural weapon, which does not require a free hand to use. Use Constitution, rather than Strength or Dexterity, for attack and damage rolls with this natural weapon, which deals 1d6 acid damage on a hit.
