# Weirdo Whoever Plays D&D: Warlocks
This document of *Weirdo Whoever Plays D&D* introduces homebrew materials, specifically a number of warlock's class options, including Otherworldly Patron options and Eldritch Invocation options.
Did I say I like warlocks? If I did, I must have been lying, because I *love* warlocks. Ever since the class made its first debut in C*omplete Arcane*, it was unique in many, many ways. In 3.5rd edition, the class had the balls to defy the traditional spell slot-based spellcasting system, and used its own way of performing magical feats, in the shape of invocations. In 5th edition (I have never played 4th edition myself) the class comply with normal spell slot systems, but with some interesting twists, and provides immense potentials of buildups. There are so many things to choose from: spells, patrons, boons, invocations, and sometimes even more. It's like a full-blown buffet of class features. I love the premise, I love the execution, and I just love this class like nothing else.
The good thing of having homebrew materials in the game is,
you can reimagine your favorite class as much as your
imagination allows, only if you can keep things balanced
enough. So here are two Otherworldly Patron options for
warlocks, as well as additional list of invocations, reimagined
from the "real McCoy" invocations from the warlock's debut in
*Complete Arcane.* (Again, thanks for my old DM for lending
me his rulebook.)

## Otherwordly Patrons
At 1st level, a warlock gains the Otherworldly Patron feature. Here are two homebrew options for that feature: the Dragon and the Genius Loci.
```
```
### Dragon
Your patron is a dragon, an ancient, majestic and powerful being. Although technically a mortal creature, the dragon has the capability of channeling and manifesting power enough to bestow upon other creatures, in exchange of their service.
Warlocks who make a pact with dragons are scarce, but it is safe to say that every single one of them are devoted servants to their patrons, often entitled for a grand quest for their favor.
#### Dragon Expanded Spells
The dragon lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
| Spell Level | Spell |
|:-:|:-|
| 1st | *chromatic orb* |
| 2nd | *detect thoughts* |
| 3rd | *protection from energy* |
| 4th | *dominate beast* |
| 5th | *dominate person* |
#### Draconic Affinity
When you choose this patron at 1st level, you choose one type of dragon as your patron. Your Eldritch Breath feature is determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table below. The damage type of your Eldritch Breath associated with each dragon is used by other features you gain later.
| Dragon | Damage Type | Eldritch Breath |
|:-:|:-:|:-|
| Black | Acid | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Blue | Lightning | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Brass | Fire | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Bronze | Lightning | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Copper | Acid | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Gold | Fire | 15 ft. cone (Dex. save) |
| Green | Poison | 15 ft. cone (Con. save) |
| Red | Fire | 15 ft. cone (Dex. save) |
| Silver | Cold | 15 ft. cone (Con. save) |
| White | Cold | 15 ft. cone (Con. save) |
You can speak, read, and write Draconic. Additionally, whenever you make a Charisma check when interacting with dragons, your proficiency bonus is doubled if it applies to the check.

#### Eldritch Breath
Also starting at 1st level, you can use your action to emulate the dragon's breath weapon with your magic. Your Draconic Affinity determines the size, shape, and damage type of your Eldritch Breath.
When you use your Eldritch Breath, you expend one warlock spell slot, and each creature in the area of effect must make a saving throw against your warlock spell save DC, the type of which is determined by your Draconic Affinity. A creature takes 2d6 damage per spell slot level on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one.
#### Draconic Drift
Starting at 6th level, you can emulate your patron's wings for a limited ability of flight. As a bonus action, you can sprout a pair of spectral dragon wings from your back. The color of your wings is identical to your patron's color.
Your wings last for 1 minute or until you dismiss them without spending action. While you have your wings, your jump distance is doubled, and you are always under the effect of the *feather fall* spell. You cannot fly with your wings, unless you gain a flying speed with other means.
Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you
finish a short rest or long rest.
#### Draconic Resilience
Starting at 10th level, you have resistance to the damage type associated with your Draconic Affinity.
Additionally, when you fail a saving throw, you can choose to reroll it. If you do so, you must use the new roll, and you cannot use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
#### Improved Eldritch Breath
When you reach 14th level, the size of your Eldritch Breath is improved. If your Eldritch Breath's shape is line, its length is increased by 30 feet. If your Eldritch Breath's shape is cone, its size is increased by 15 feet.
Additionally, when you hit a creature within 30 feet of you with an attack, you can use your Eldritch Breath feature as a bonus action. The attacked creature must be within your Eldritch Breath's area of effect when you use it this way.
### Genius Loci
Your patron is a genius loci, or a portion of landscape with a will of its own. Often a genius loci would possess a sentient creature that trespasses itself, borrowing its intelligence and knowledge to interact with other creatures.
A warlock may strike a pact with a genius loci either by coming across such creature, being possessed by a genius loci oneself but managing to retain self to impress it, or actively seeking a genius loci and suggest a bargain.
Often a genius loci is extremely dormant and reclusive, wanting little more than toying with miniscule creatures that roam on it. On a rare occasion would a genius loci would actively seek something greater than its own existence, such as expanding its influence in other landscapes. Because a genius loci cannot move on its own, a warlock is often dedicated to become a messenger for its patron's grand scheme.

#### Genius Loci Expanded Spells
The genius loci lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
| Spell Level | Spells |
|:-:|:-|
| 1st | *entangle*, *faerie fire* |
| 2nd | *moonbeam*, *pass without trace* |
| 3rd | *nondetection*, *meld into stone* |
| 4th | *grasping vine*, *locate creature* |
| 5th | *awaken*, *tree stride* |
#### Fertile Feet
When you choose this patron at 1st level, your patron's magic stimulates the earth as you stride. When you end your turn while standing on a solid ground, the area within 5 feet of you becomes overgrown, spontaneously sprouting with molds and small weeds to cover the area. These plants are magical, and shine dim light within its area. Overgrown terrain lasts for 1 minute, after which it loses its magical properties, and any plants magically created with this feature wilt away.
As an action, you can choose a point on solid ground within 30 feet of you. The area within 5 feet of the chosen point becomes overgrown.
As long as you are standing on overgrown area, you have advantage on all ability checks and saving throws against being shoved, knocked prone, grappled, or restrained.
#### Furious Growth
When you reach 6th level, your patron's magic enforces natural wildlife to grow beyond its natural capability. When you make an area overgrown, any hostile creature suffers one of the following of options of your choice:
* ***Grass Knot.*** Vines grow beneath the creature's feet and attempts to knock it prone. The creature must succced on a Strength saving throw against your warlock spell save DC or becomes knocked prone.
* ***Poison Spore.*** Fungi and mushrooms exhales toxins that cause rash and nausea. The creature must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your warlock spell save DC or becomes poisoned for 1 minute.
* ***Razor Leaf.*** Weeds and plants develop razor-sharp leaves, cutting the creature. The creature must make a Dexterity saving throw against your warlock spell save DC. The creature takes 2d8 slashing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
#### Nature’s Courtesy
At 10th level, your patron's presence over you grants pardoning from beasts and plants. You can pass through nonmagical plants without being slowed by them and without taking damage from them if they have thorns, spines, or a similar hazard.
Additionally, when a plant creature hits you with an attack, or when you start your turn grappled or restrained by a plant creature, the creature takes psychic damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

#### Furious Overgrowth
When you reach 14th level, your patron's magic further enhances the overgrowth. When a creature starts its turn while standing on the overgrown area you can see within 30 feet of you, you can choose one option from your Furious Growth feature and apply to the target.
Additionally, the overgrown area is difficult terrain for creatures hostile to you.
## Eldritch Invocations
At 2nd level, a warlock gains the Eldritch Invocations feature. Here are some homebrew options for that feature.

Constructs and undeads have disadvantage on the saving throw, and takes maximum damage on a failed save.
#### Voidsense

You can perceive your surroundings out to 30 feet without relying on sight.
