## Martial Archetypes Different fighters choose different approaches to perfecting their fighting prowess. The martial archetype you choose to emulate reflects your approach. ### Warrior of the Dancing Chain A warrior of the dancing chain, specializes in a style that was developed by those rare few that have faced a chain devil and lived. They craft a chain weapon that they continually practice with, learning to wrap their opponents with this weapon. True masters of this weapon are able to transform themselves into a whilrling hurricane of destruction wielding both of their chains in a deadly whirling style taking full advantage of their weapons reach and weight. #### Flexible weapon master At 3rd Level your skill with your unique weapon and fighting style allows you to take better adavantage of its unique properties. You may use a bonus action to gain one of the following benefits, while wielding a Devils Chain, Rope Dart, Whip, or an extended weapon with the segmented property: - You gain +2 AC until the start of your next turn. - You gain 5 ft of extra reach. You also gain proficiency with smithing tools, you can add the segmented property to a weapon using your smithing tools, this process takes you one day and costs 10gp for materials. #### Segmented Hand Beginning at 7th level, your skill and finesse allows you to manipulate objects with your unique weapons as well as you can using your actual hands. While wielding a Devil's Chain, Rope dart, Whip or extended weapon with the segmented propety, you may use the weapon to interact with an item as if you had cast mage hand out to a range equal to your weapons reach. > ##### Swinging Using Segmented Hand > By the DM's discretion you can use your segmented hand to "grab" hold of a branch, metal bar, or other such jutting object, to help you swing over a gap (for reference think of Indiana Jones). #### Wrapping Lash Beginning at 10th level, your skill with your weapons unique nature has grown to a point that you wrap it around your opponent, a Large or smaller creature hit by your Devil's Chain, Rope dart, Whip or extended weapon with the segmented propety may be restrained until it is freed. A creature can use its action to make a Strength check DC equal to 8+ proficiency modifier, + your strength or dexterity modifier (your choice), freeing itself or another creature within its reach on a success. When you use an action, bonus action, or reaction to restrain with your weapon, you can make only one attack regardless of the number of attacks you can normally make. #### Fluid Transition Beginning at 15th level, you have mastered the transition between short and long range combat. As an action you can pull a oppenent that you have grappled with your weapon towards you a distance equal to your weapons reach. As part of this Action you may make an melee weapon attack against the restrained opponent, on a successful hit you deal your weapon damage. If you choose to make an attack as part of this action, your opponent is released from being restrained. You may collapse an extended weapon with the segmented propety as part of this action if you choose to attack. #### Devil's Grapple Beginning at 18th level, you have truly mastered your weapon and can apply force upon your weapon in just the right way as to injure them while they are wrapped in your weapon. A creature that you have restrained in your weapon takes damage equal to your weapon damage at the start of each of its turns, so long as it remains grappled by your weapon. ##### Weapons | Name | Cost | Damage | Weight| Properties | |:----|:-------------:|:-------------:|:-------------:|:-------------:| | Devil's Chain | 20gp | 1d10 slashing | 6 lb | Reach, two-handed| | Rope Dart | 20gp | 1d8 Piercing | 6 lb | Finesse, reach, two-handed| ### Weapon Property **Segmented.** This property can be added to any melee weapon. A segmented weapon is one that has been split into sections that are connencted together with a chain or metal wire. This allows the weapon to be extended and to curve and wrap like a whip. As a bonus action you can extend your weapon granting it the reach property, however due to the difficulty of controlling many whipping segments you have disadvantage on attacks against creatures within 5ft of you. You can collapse the weapon back to its original form as an action. The weapon retains all of its properties while it is extended, for example an extended longsowrd retains the versatile property. If a weapon already has the reach property extend its reach by another 5ft, but you have disadvantage on attack rolls against enemies within 10 ft of you while wielding a extended segmented reach weapon such as a halberd. Adding this property to a weapon costs 20gp.
