Within this radius the influence of the Depths dims all light, bright light becomes dim light, and dim light becomes darkness : ***The Gauntlet.*** Any creature or object that the Depths swallows is transported to a Gauntlet that can be entered by no other means except a wish spell or this creature's Crushing jaws ability. A creature can leave the gauntlet by using magic that enables planar travel, such as the plane shift spell or by forcing the Depths' jaws open with a DC 26 Athletics check. The demiplane resembles a dark temple, filled with traps, insects, worshipers, and overly ambitious fools. The Depths can't be harmed from within the Gauntlet. If the Depths dies, its jaws swing open, and everything inside it can freely leave the corpse. The Gauntlet is indestructible. : ***Innate Spellcasting.*** The Depths's spellcasting ability is Wisdom (+ 15, spell save DC 23). The Depths can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components: * At will: Infestation (4d6), hunger of Hadar, swarm of locusts (2d6), flock of crows * 3/Day each: insect plague, giant insect * 1/day each: maddening darkness ### Actions ***Multiattack.*** The Depths Casts a spell, and then uses crushing jaws. The Depths can inhale or exhale at the beginning or end of this action. : ***Crushing jaws.*** *Melee Weapon Attack:* +18 to hit, reach 20ft., one target. *Hit* 115 (10d20 + 10) piercing damage. If the target is a creature of Huge size or smaller, the Depths swallows it. The swallowed target, along with everything it is wearing and carrying, appears in an unoccupied space on the floor of the Depth's Gauntlet. : ***Inhale (Recharge: 5-6) .*** The Depths sucks in a vast amount of air, pulling creatures in a 300-foot cone with it. Each creature in that area must make a DC 26 Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is pulled 200 ft. closer to the Depths and is knocked prone. On a successful save, the creature is pulled 100 ft. closer to the Depths and is not knocked prone. : ***Exhale (Recharge upon using Inhale).*** The Depths releases a sickenening draft from its maw, blowing away creatures in a 300-foot cone and releasing creatures from the gauntlet. Each creature in that area must make a DC 26 Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is pushed 200 ft. away from the Depths and is knocked prone. On a successful save, the creature is pushed 100 ft. away from the Depths and is not knocked prone. One of the following selections of creatures are expelled from the maw and land in random spaces in the cone. On a failed save the creature is covered (using the "Climb onto a bigger creature" rules in the DMG p. 271) in a swarm of rot grubs (VGM p. 208). On a succesful save, the swarm instead appeares in an unnocupied space within 5 ft. of the creature. These Rot grubs have a +8 to their attack rolls, and they take their turns immediately after the Depths. : ***Everchanging (2 Actions).*** The Depths warps reality within 1,200 ft. of itself. the floor, walls, hazards, terrain, and any other structures in range magicaly shift to new spaces of the Depths' choosing. This does not move creatures, change the shape or size of the structures/terrain moved, and terrain cannot be shifted in such a way as to trap a creature. : ***Deathless Stirring.*** The Depths shifts in its slumber/death. You also can’t take a Bonus Action or a Reaction. }} \page {{font-size:89% ### Piety #### EARNING AND LOSING PIETY **Dedication.** In order to gain piety you must first know of a god's existence, and dedicate yourself to them while praying in a ritual circle, or site holy to them. You may only dedicate yourself to two gods. If you wish to dedicate yourself to a third god, you must denounce one you have dedicated yourself to. Upon denouncing your god, you lose all your piety with them, and all features it granted you. : Gaining Piety * Praying to The Depths in a ritual circle, or a site holy to it (Once per circle or site) * Aiding large colonies of insects (once per week) * Taking three long rests without seeing the sun. * Crafting macabre ritualistic totems/statues out of the dead. * Throwing a small or larger creature into the maw of the depths. * Being shunned by the civilized world * Hitting rock bottom * Eating raw corpses. * Engraving the symbol of The Depths upon your face (+3, once) * Doing a service for those most favored by the Depths (such as the Cockroach King) (+3) * Surviving times of desperation (+5) : Losing Piety * Bringing light to the lightless places of the world (such as the underdark, or the bottom of the ocean) * Killing an Insect * Lighting or carrying a torch * Exterminating a massive number of insects (-10) * Rejecting the gifts granted by the depths (-25) #### Locust swarm *2nd-level conjuration* **Casting Time:** :: 1 action **Range:** :: 60 feet **Components:** :: M, V, S (rotting food) **Duration:** :: Instantaneous A cloud of swarming vermin are called to a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on a point you choose within range. The sphere spreads around corners. When the area appears, each creature in it must make a Constitution saving throw. A creature takes 1d6 piercing damage on a failed save, and is dazed until the end of their next turn. A creature takes half as much damage on a successful save. **At Higher Levels.** When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, increase the piercing damage by 1d6 for each slot level above 2nd. #### Flock of crows *3nd-level conjuration* **Casting Time:** :: 1 action **Range:** :: 60 feet **Components:** :: V **Duration:** :: Instantaneous A swarm of crows descends upon a creature within range. It must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 piercing damage and being blinded until the end of your next turn on a failed save. it must then make a Constitution saving throw or lose an eye. Insects will not harm you unless you harm them first, or they are magically compelled to do so. Additionally you gain darkvision with a range of 30 ft. this range increases by 30 ft. each time your piety rank with the Depths increases. #### Votary of the Depths *Requirements: level 5, Piety +10* : You can cast *Locust swarm* and *Flock of crows* once each with this trait, requiring no material components. Once you cast these spells in this way, you can not do so again until you finish a long rest. Choose one spellcasting modifier: Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma. This is your spellcasting modifier for this spell, and any future spells granted by gaining more piety with The Depths #### Disciple of the Depths *Requirements: level 11, Piety +25* : The God of the Depths grants you a splendorous gift. You become infested with parasitic worms who feast on the nutrients that enter your body, and aid you in combat. You require Three times the normal amount of food per day, and gain the ability to cast *Vampiric Touch*, Requiring no material components. Once you cast the spell in this way, you can not do so again until you finish a **short** rest. : If the parasites are removed from your body you lose access to this trait. #### Champion of the Black *Requirements: level 15, Piety +50* : The God of the Depths Accepts you as its own, offering to remake you in the image of its most favored : You are granted the knowledge of a prayer which will transform you into a form more pleasing to the Depths. Once, as an action, you may utter this prayer. Upon uttering the prayer you are instantly gifted with a transformation into an insectoid creature.
