Giants tend to stay with their own, living in tribes far from most other societies, and looking down upon "small folk" both figuratively and literally. Some, however, challenge their kin's customs, venturing out from their communities and even mingling with other races. Occasionally, such adventurous giants will bear descendants in the form of half-giants. Almost always raised in the other parent's community, half-giants stand out from their peers through their exceptional size and build. Additionally, they inherit several of their giant parent's traits, notably their strength, while gaining the ability to grow to a size approaching that of a giant for limited periods of time. Most half-giants never quite fit within their communities, and many are drawn to adventure as they seek others who may welcome or understand them. Some are ashamed of their giant heritage, and call upon it only in times of great need. Others embrace it, even seeking out giant tribes so that they may join them or reunite with their long-lost kin. ## Half-Giant Traits - ***Ability Score Increase.*** Increase one ability score by 2, and increase a different one by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. - ***Languages.*** You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character. - ***Type.*** You are a Giant. - ***Life Span.*** Half-Giants have a life span of 500 years on average. - ***Size.*** You are Medium. - ***Speed.*** Your walking speed is 30 feet. - ***Giant Transformation.*** As a bonus action, you can call upon your giant heritage and transform into a larger form. When you do so, you gain the following benefits for 1 minute, or until you use a bonus action to change back: - Your size increases by one category. For example, if you are Medium, you become Large. Everything you are wearing or carrying changes size with you, and you do not increase in size if you lack the room to do so. - Your walking speed increases by 10 feet. - You gain temporary hit points equal to twice your proficiency bonus, which last until the end of your transformation. You can use your Giant Transformation a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. - ***Legacy of Giants.*** You are descended from giants. Choose one of the following legacy options for your half-giant: - ***Cloud.*** You know the *GustXGtE* cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the *Fog Cloud* spell with this trait. Once you cast *Fog Cloud* with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race). - ***Fire.*** You have resistance to fire damage. - ***Frost.*** You have resistance to cold damage. You’re also acclimated to high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet. - ***Hill.*** You are proficient with improvised weapons, and you can roll a d8 in the place of the normal damage of your attack with an improvised weapon on a hit. - ***Stone.*** Choose one skill with which you have proficiency. You gain expertise in that skill, meaning your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with it. - ***Storm.*** You can cast the *Augury* spell with this trait, without requiring a material component. Once you cast *Augury* with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of 2nd level or higher. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell when you cast it with this trait (choose when you select this race). - ***Little Giant.*** You have proficiency in the Athletics skill, and you count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift. {{pageNumber, auto}} {{footnote PART 1 | RACE}} \page ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ## Half-Giant Feats #### Bane of the Small *Prerequisite: Half-Giant race* ___ You have gained an affinity for killing members of smaller races. When you make an attack roll against a creature whose size is smaller than yours, you gain advantage on the attack roll. #### Giant Growth *Prerequisite: Half-Giant race, 8th level* ___ Your connection to your giant heritage deepens, allowing you to increase in size with greater ease. As an action, you can change your size between Medium and Large. Additionally, when you use your Giant Transformation trait, the transformation lasts indefinitely. ## Half-Giant Magic Items #### Giantkin Weapon *Weapon, rare (+1), very rare (+2), legendary (+3) (requires attunement)* ___ This weapon is imbued with the magic of giants, increasing in lethality the larger the wielder's size. When you make an attack with this weapon and hit, and are of Large or larger size, you roll double the weapon's damage dice. You gain a bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with this weapon, determined by its rarity. :::::::::::::::::::::::::: #### Horn of the Skald *Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement by a half-giant)* ___ This horn is engraved with carvings representing the deeds of giants. If you are a bard, you can use this item as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells. Whenever you use your Giant Transformation trait, you can sound the horn, imbuing you with an aura of courage for the duration of your transformation. While transformed, you and creatures you choose within 10 feet of you are immune to the frightened condition. #### Platform Shoes *Wondrous item, common* ___ Originally crafted by a half-giant envious of their giant parent's stature, these thick-heeled shoes are prized by those wishing to appear taller. While you are wearing these shoes, creatures you choose perceive you as if you were one size larger than your true size: for example, if you are Medium, an affected creature perceives you as Large. A creature can use its action to make a DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check, discerning your true size on a success. Your perceived form will contort unnaturally if it is too large for the space it is occupying. #### Rune Stone *Wondrous item, rarity by rune (requires attunement by a giant or half-giant)* ___ Runes are words of power, used to invoke the magic of giants, often inscribed in stone or some other long-lasting material. Only giants and their descendants can wield the magic of rune stones. Each stone is imbued with the magic of a spell based on the stone's rarity: a cantrip (uncommon), 1st-level spell (rare), 2nd-level spell (very rare), or 3rd-level spell (legendary). The DM can choose this spell from any class's spell list, but the spell cannot restore hit points. While holding the stone and attuned to it, you can cast the stone's imbued spell from it. ![](https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/002/508/939/large/igor-sid-half-frost-giant.jpg?1462608588){position:absolute;top:-50px;left:0px;width:820px} ![](https://i.imgur.com/4Q3HUFE.png){position:absolute;bottom:0px;left:0px;width:950px} {{pageNumber, auto}} {{footnote PART 2 | EXTRAS}} \page # Acknowledgments ## Art This brew uses art assets created by a variety of talented artists.
