They can happen in extreme circumstances that would cause an extreme level of harm and somehow changes the usual shape of the body. - Upcasting a spell does not change the kind of healing it can do, it is simply more of the same original level spell. - After healing, the creature takes one level of exhaustion for each grievous wound, up to a maximum of 5 levels of exhaustion. {{descriptive #### By Spell |Spell Level|-Spell-Name-|Extent of healing| |:----------|:---|:----------------| |Cantrip |Spare the Dying |The creature is still grievously wounded, but stabilized. |1st| Cure Wounds | Good at magically repairing soft tissue damage. It generally has no trouble closing wounds from bruising, slashing, and piercing attacks, like animal bites or stab wounds. It is also capable of stabilizing someone who is critically injured. That said, it is unable to regrow missing parts, and it does a poor job if the body is not aligned the way it should be, such as a badly broken bone, or severed spinal cord. If a broken bone is realigned, cure wounds will repair it. If not, the wound is healed, bleeding stops and skin regrows, but the break will not be aligned and may not function correctly. A simple break is easy to realign. A complex break with many small pieces is difficult and may require a medicine check.| |1st|Goodberry|The creature is still grievously wounded, but stabilized with 1 hp. | 1st|Healing Word | Same as Cure wounds| |2nd |Healing Spirit| Same as Cure wounds, but continues to stabilize and prevent bleeding should any other injury occur. |2nd|Lesser Restoration| Ends one condition such as Blinded, Deafened, Paralyzed (if caused by poison or magical means, not paralyzed by grievous injury), or poisoned (unless the poison is magically resistant).| |2nd|Prayer of Healing| Same as Healing Spirit.| |3rd|Aura of Vitality| Similar to Healing Spirit but much more leeway in terms of how closely things have to go back together. Does not fix severed spinal cord or regrow limbs. |3rd|Life Transference| Similar to Cure Wounds but much more leeway in terms of how closely things have to go back together. Does not fix severed spinal cord or regrow limbs. |3rd|Mass Healing Word |Same as Healing word, but for multiple creatures. |3rd|Revivify|The creature revives and is stabilized with 1 hp but is still grievously injured. |3rd|Vampiric Touch |Similar to Cure Wounds but much more leeway in terms of how closely things have to go back together. Does not fix severed spinal cord or regrow limbs. |4th|Aura of Life| The creature is stabilized and cannot be injured further.| |5th|Enervation|Heals all soft tissue and bone wounds. Can somewhat repair severed spinal cord, but leg coordination is still unsteady. Does not regrow missing limbs. |5th|Greater Restoration |As written. Will reduce the exhaustion level of the injured creature after being healed. Will also successfully remove magic resistant poison. |5th|Mass Cure Wounds| Same as cure wounds but can target up to 6 creatures, and realignment need not be as exact. Can somewhat repair severed spinal cord, but leg coordination is still unsteady. Does not regrow missing limbs. |5th|Raise Dead| Some effort should be made to realign the body, but otherwise works as written. |6th| Heal| Heals all grievous injury but does not regrow missing limbs. |7th|Conjure Celestial| Heals all grievous injury but does not regrow missing limbs. |7th|Regenerate| Heals all grievous injury and regrows missing limbs. |7th|Resurrection| Works as written. |9th|Mass Heal| Heals all grievous injury and regrows missing limbs for any creatures in range. |9th|Power Word Heal| As written and heals all grievous injury and regrows missing limbs. }} }} \page {{wide {{descriptive #### By Wounds |Injury |Level of Healing needed| |:-----|:----| |Broken bone with simple clean break |As long as the bones are held together, cure wounds or healing word will cure it. |Broken bone with moderately complex break (3-4 pieces)|A DC 12 medicine check is needed to see if it can be properly realigned. If so cure wounds or healing word will cure it. If not, cure wounds or healing word will heal the break, but the limb may not be as strong as it was. A level 3 spell or higher does not need a medicine check. |Broken bone with complex break (many pieces)|Level one healing requires a DC 18 medicine check to heal. A level 3 spell needs a DC 12 medicine check to heal. Level 5 or higher needs no check. On a failed check, the break is healed but may suffer penalties. |Dislocation|Level 1 spells can heal, but a simple DC10 medicine check can also pop back into place.| |Disembowelment |If the organs can be gathered and placed back inside, first level healing should cure it. Prestidigitation may be needed to clear any debris and dirt from the wound to avoid infection. |Eye (damaged)|Level 1 or higher can heal it. |Eye (destroyed)|Level 1 healing can restore connection to the body/blood flow but not sight. Level 3 can restore full sight on a DC18 medicine check. On a fail, vision is limited to light sensitivity. Level 6 or higher restores full functional sight with no check. |Eye (removed)|Only 7th level regenerate or 9th level healing spells can replace it. |Limb (Severed, clean cut)|1st level healing can reattach the arm, but will not reconnect all the nerves, leaving the limb unusable, but pain free. Level 3 healing can make a DC 15 medicine check to see if the nerves can be realigned. Level 6 or higher can reattach it with no check. |Limb (Severed, torn away)| 1st level healing cannot reattach the limb. 3rd level healing can reattach the limb with a DC20 medicine check for functionality. Level 6 or higher can reattach it with no check. |Limb (Destroyed)| Only 7th level regenerate or 9th level healing spells can replace it. }} }} {{imageMaskEdge1,--offset:13%,--rotation:0 ![](https://i.imgur.com/mh2EnZM.png){position:absolute;bottom:0px;right:0px;width:820px} }}
