# The Starfire Warlock of Maztica
Many powerful beings reside in Maztica that can grant eldtrich magics, but only one seems to have access to the mysterious power of Starfire.
### The Obsidian Butterfly
Itzapaplotl, also known as the Obsidian Butterfly, is neither god nor demon. Rather, she is something very unique. Those she grants power to are marked and feared throughout Maztica. Her motivations are unknown and the depths of her evils are uncertain, yet few can award any good intentions to the mistress of the stardemons that fall from her torturous realm of Tamoanchan to wreak havoc across the land.
:::::::::::
#### Expanded Spell List
The Obsidian Butterfly lets you choose from an expanded spell list when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
| Spell Level | Spells|
|:---:|:-------------|
| 1st | Ambush, Obsidian Shards |
| 2nd | Stonefall, Scalesnare |
| 3rd | Exhausting Wave, Eyes of the Jaguar Lord |
| 4th | Pestilence, Freedom of Movement* |
| 5th | Breathweird, Flamestrike* |
All spells can be found in the Maztica Campaign guide MZC1 available on DMsGuild with the exception of *spells found in Wizards of the Coast publications.
#### Starfire blast
*Cantrip evocation*
**Casting Time:** :: 1 action
**Range:** :: 30 foot cone
**Components:** :: V, S
**Duration:** :: Instantaneous
A cone of blue and orange fire blasts 30 feet in front of you, going around corners as well giving no benefit to cover. All creatures in the blast make a dexterity saving throw vs your spell DC. On a hit, the target takes 2d4 damage, half damage on a save. The damage can be fire or cold or an equal combination fire/cold.
At higher character levels: 4d4 at 5th level, 6d4 at 11th level, and 8d4 at 17th level.
### Eldritch Invocations
The following eldritch invocations are available to warlocks with the *starfire blast* cantrip.
#### Lingering starfire burns
When a creature fails their save for the *starfire blast* which has both cold and fire damage, they are overwhelmed by the shock of these combined energies and get disadvantage on their next saving throw.
#### Starfire mastery
Any spell you cast with fire or cold damage that deals Area of Effect damage can be replaced with spellfire: the damage can be all fire, cold or split fire/cold equally.
::::::::::::::::
#### Soul kindling
A warlock can burn their own essence to empower their starfire. Whenever landing a hit with starfire you can choose to suffer one level of exhaustion to impose disadvantage on their next dexterity saving throw and the creatures must subract 1d4 from the lowest saving throw dice.
#### Veil of Starfire
When you cast Armor of Agathys, you can choose to expend a 4th level spellslot to simultaneously cast Fire Shield, assuming you can already cast these spells. If you do this, then at the moment of casting you may choose both spells to be entirely of fire or cold for their duration.
#### Perfect starfire command
The mix of cold and fire damage is so perfectly melded that creatures immune to cold or immune to fire are instead resistant to starfire; creatures resistance to cold or resistant to fire damage take full damage from starfire. Your starfire cannot be extinguished by mundane means, even under water or in a vacuum, and flamable objects will continue to burn even under water or in a vacuum.
This applies to your Starfire Blast, any spells affected by Starfire Mastery, and Veil of Starfire.
You must already have Starfire Mastery in order take take this invocation.

### Patron Features
Like all warlocks, you recieve a patron feature at 1st, 6th, 10th and 14th level.
#### Mark of the Obsidian Butterfly
Starting at 1st level, Itzapaplotl makes her presence known by emblazoning her symbol permanently on your forehead. This symbol forever brands you as an outcast but also causes all within sight of the brand to fear you.
:
 {width:325px,mix-blend-mode:multiply}
All creatures in sight of the brand must make a Wisdom save against your warlock spell DC or become frightened by you, if they have a cultural affinity to Maztica or dealings star demons. This fear is a trauma caused by the decades of suffering the creatures of Maztica have endured at the hands of her star demons, rather than a magical affect.
They may attempt to save again at the start of each of their turns and once they have successfully saved they do not need to again for a full day. You are not able to suppress this ability, but the mark can be covered with a simple hood or hat.
#### Starfire nova
Starting at 6th level you may enact a wreath of bright orange and blue flames around yourself as a reaction to taking damage. All creatures in a 10 foot radius, friend or foe, make a dexterity saving throw vs your spell DC. On a hit, the target takes 2d8 damage, half damage on a save. The damage can be fire or cold or an equal combination fire/cold.
Invocations that affect starfire apply. This ability can only be used once between short and long rests.

#### Conjure Tzitzimitl
Starting at 10th level, you may call forth a star demon serving
Itzapaplotl to serve you; it materializes in a space adjacent
to you. The tzitzimitl serves you begrudgingly as long as your
concentration isn't broken or until an hour has expired at
which point the creature disappears in a puff of smoke.
The tzitzimitl is not generally friendly to you but it must
follow your direct commands; although it may also act of it's own judgement. This ability can only be used once between long rests.
The stat block for the Tzitzimitl is shown below.
#### Vision of Tamoacha
The torture chambers of the void realm of Tamoacha are
horrors that few minds can accept. Starting at 14th level, as
an action you may project a vision of this hellish location to
any creature that can see your mark.
This creature takes 8d10 psychic damage and must make a
Wisdom save against your warlock spell DC or become
paralyzed. The creature remains paralyzed until it is
successful on the Wisdom save which it may attempt once at
the start of each of its turns. This ability can be used once
between short and long rests.

***Perfect starfire aura.*** A tzitzimitl is perpetually surrounded by an aura of orange and blue starfire. The aura cannot be extinguished even if the tzitzimitl is submerged in water or in a vacuum. The tzitzimitl can suppress or reignite its aura as a bonus action at the start of one of its turns. This suppression also occurs involuntarily after the tzitzimitl uses a starfire blast.
Creatures that are hostile to the tzitzimitl within 5 feet of it suffer these effects: if immune to fire or cold then they are only resistant to starfire; if resistant to fire or cold then they have no resistance to starfire.
Any hostile creature or flammable object that starts its turn within 5 feet of the tzitzimitl with activated starfire aura takes 2d10 (11) starfire damage with the adjustment made to immunity and resistance described above.
### Actions
***Multiattack.*** The tzitzimitl makes 2 attacks with its claws or one attack of Starfire Blast.
:
***Claws.*** _Melee Weapon Attack:_ +5 to hit, reach 5ft., one target. _Hit_ 2d6 + 2 (9) slashing damage.
:
***Starfire blast (Recharge 5-6).*** The tzitzimitl suppresses it's starfire aura and release a starfire blast in a 30 foot cone. All creatures in the cone must succeed a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 8d8 (36) starfire damage on a failed saving throw and half damage on a successful one.
Adjustments to cold and fire immunities and resistances of the target creatures are the same as the aura as described above. The tzitzimitl loses its starfire aura until this ability recharges and it uses a bonus action to reignite the aura.
