# The Way of Divinity Some monks find enlightenment in martial prowess, while others seek it in connecting themselves with the elements. The Way of Divinity teaches monks to seek enlightenment from a source not of this world; these monks try to gain it from the gods, adopting a domain. When making a monk of this tradition, you should ask yourself the following questions: why did my monk decide that the normal ways of enlightenment weren't sufficient? Were they born into the Way of Divinity, or did they seek it out? Monks of this tradition typically either study religious texts, attempt to contact the gods of their faiths, or both. Does your monk do either, or do they have their own way of learning this Monastic Tradition? ### **Divine Domain** Upon choosing this Monastic Tradition at 3rd level, you have adopted a domain, akin to that of a cleric, but one that exemplifies the tenets of your life as a monk. Your Divine Domain gives you proficiency in a skill. You can use your Wisdom modifier in place of any other Ability Score when making ability checks with the skill you become proficient with. #### Blessings You also gain access to Blessings; a selection of spells which you can cast by spending ki equal to their level as long as you can cast Way of Divinity spells of that level. At the end of a long rest, you can pray to your deity to grant you a different Blessing. When you do so, you replace the spells of your previous Blessing with that of the one you were granted. ### **Spellcasting** Also at 3rd level, you learn to cast spells from your deity with your ki. #### Cantrips You learn two cantrips of your choice from the cleric spell list. You may learn an additional cantrip at 6th and 11th level. #### Casting Spells To cast a spell you prepared from the Way of Divinity spell list, you must expend ki points equal to 1 + the spell's level. At 7th level, you may cast 2nd-level spells and can cast your Divinity spells at a higher level, up to the highest level of Divinity spell you can cast. To cast spells at a higher level you must spend ki points equal 1 + the level at which you are casting the spell. At 13th level, you may cast 3rd-level spells and at 19th level you may cast 4th-level spells. You prepare the list of Way of Divinity spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the Divinity spell list. When you do so, choose a number of Way of Divinity spells equal to the number shown under Spells Prepared in the Way of Divinity table. The spells must be of a level you can cast. For example, if you are a 7th-level monk, you can cast 1st and 2nd-level spells. Your list of prepared spells can include three spells of 1st or 2nd level, in any combination, plus the spells from your Blessing. If you prepare the 1st-level spell *cure wounds*, you can cast it using 2 ki for a 1st-level casting or 3 ki for a 2nd-level casting. Casting the spell doesn't remove it from your list of prepared spells. You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of Divinity spells requires time spent in prayer and meditation: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list. #### Spellcasting Ability Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your Way of Divinity spells, since you learn your spells through your devotion to your deity. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a Divinity spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one. ** ** **Spell save DC** = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier ** ** **Spell attack modifier** = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier #### Spellcasting Focus You can use a holy symbol (see page 150 of the Player's Handbook) as a spellcasting focus for your Way of Divinity spells. ##### The Way of Divinity

### **Channel Ki** At 6th level, your deity gives you the ability to channel ki energy directly from them, using that energy to fuel magical effects. You start with two such effects: Divine Flurry and the Channel Divinity option granted at 2nd level by your chosen domain. When you use your Channel Ki, you choose which effect to create. You must then finish a short or long rest to use your Channel Ki again. Some Channel Ki effects require saving throws. When you use such an effect from this class, the DC equals your Way of Divinity spell save DC. \page Beginning at 11th level, you can use your Channel Ki twice between rests. When you take a short or long rest, you regain the expended uses. #### Divine Flurry Using a bonus action, you whisper a prayer and ask your deity to guide your strikes. You use the Flurry of Blows feature without expending ki. On a successful hit, one of these attacks deals additional damage equal to your Wisdom modifier of a type determined by your domain. **Psychic** if you have the Knowledge domain, **radiant** for the Life domain, **fire** or **cold** (your choice) for Nature, **force** for Order and **lightning** for Tempest. At 17th level, both of these attacks deal additional damage on a hit. ### **Ancient Lore** At 11th level, your devoted study of your deity leads you to discover old legends and knowledge of them. Choose one Blessing not associated to your domain. You can choose this Blessing as well as any other Blessing you could've chosen from when selecting a Blessing at the end of a long rest. Additionally, you can add your proficiency bonus twice to ability checks made with the skill associated with your domain. ### **Devoted Reward** At 17th level, you have proven your devotion to your deity. When you complete a long rest, you can select two Blessings to gain instead of one. You can replace both, either or neither on subsequent long rests. Additionally, you gain the 1st level cleric domain feature of your domain. ## Domains and Blessings This section displays the choices of domains and Blessings for The Way of Divinity Monastic Tradition. You can cast spells from the Blessing you prayed for at the end of a long rest by spending ki points equal to the spell's level. > ##### Unfitting Blessings > Some gods or deities may not traditionally grant a certain type of Blessing. In this instance, work with your DM to create a new domain and list of Blessings, or adapt a domain from the cleric Divine Domain list. **Knowledge Domain.** The gods of knowledge value learning and understanding above all. ##### Author's Notes Hey! I'm u/CptnCopyright and I made this Monastic Tradition. It was a ton of fun to rework and I'm glad I was given the criticism to realize it needed this revision. Special thanks to u/AngusOReily for all their help! I might add a changelog if it differentiates much from this version, but I dont think it needs one right now. I hope this is good, mechanically and flavor-wise. This is a part of a series of subclasses that combine class features and themes from other classes. Previously, I made the Path of the Yaban, which is Barbarian + Monk. If this isn't obvious, the Way of Divinity is Monk + Cleric. The next page is the spell list. That's all I got. ##### Credits The Monk class is made by Wizards of the Coast for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. Monk (with cleric archetype) was made by Paizo Inc for Pathfinder 2e.
