## History
Chaos Knights draw their power from the plane of Elemental Chaos. Their fighting style is composed of ferocious weapon attacks and terrifying blasts of magic energy. Chaos Knights were rarely true knights, but lone warriors who wandered the land honing their skills. Most took up work as bounty hunters, or some other form of sellsword.
## Building a Chaos Knight
When building your character, take into account their origins. In the same way as wild magic sorcerers, Chaos Knights were entangled with the Elemental Chaos and given power far beyond their control. But unlike sorcerers, they chose to shape their power into a weapon that supplements their martial skills. Think about how your character feels about their power, and what steps they've taken/are taking to control it.

## Spellcasting
When you reach 3rd level, you augment your martial prowess with the ability to cast spells.
**Cantrips**
You start with 2 cantrips from the Sorcerer spell list. At level 10 you gain a 3rd cantrip known.
**Spell Slots**
The Chaos Knight Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.
For example, if you know the 1st-level spell Shield and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast Shield using either slot.
**Spells Known of 1st level or higher**
You know three 1st level Sorcerer spells of your choice.
The Spells Known column of the Chaos Knight Spellcasting table shows when you learn more Sorcerer spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots.
Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the Sorcerer spells you know with another spell of your choice from the Sorcerer spell list.
**Spellcasting Ability**
Charisma is your spellcasting ability for your Sorcerer spells. You use your Charisma whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability.
**Spell save DC** = 8 + proficiency bonus + Charisma mod
**Spell attack mod** = proficiency bonus + Charisma mod

# Archetype Features
## Chaos Blade
Starting at 3rd level, over the course of a short rest, you can consume a weapon you choose with chaotic energy, sending it into a state of limbo between the material and aetherial. Doing so allows you to summon a weapon made from pure chaotic energy with the same stats as the consumed weapon as an action. Attacks made with this weapon are magical, and you can choose to use your Charisma modifier for attack and damage rolls instead of Strength or Dexterity. Every time you summon the weapon, roll a d4 and consult the table below to determine its damage type. You can consume a number of weapons up to your Charisma modifier, but only 1 chaos blade can be summoned at one time. Once a weapon is consumed in this way, nothing short of a wish spell can return it to normal. If the weapon leaves your hand, you can summon it back as a bonus action but must do so before the end of your next turn or the weapon disappears back into limbo.
##### Damage Types
| Roll 1d4 | Damage Type |
|:----:|:-------------|
| 1 | Fire |
| 2 | Cold |
| 3 | Lightning |
| 4 | Acid |
## Battle Casting
At level 7, when you use your action to cast a cantrip, you may make one weapon attack as a bonus action.
## Controlled Chaos
At level 10, you have mastered the use of the Chaos blade, and you can now choose the damage type when you summon a weapon, rather than rolling on the table. Your chaos blade now deals one extra damage die. If a weapon uses more than one type of die, choose the biggest one.
## Wild Step
At level 15, you can teleport up to 30 feet to a space you can see when using your Action Surge. The teleport can take place before or after the Action Surge. When you use this ability, chaotic magic energy erupts around you. One creature of your choice within 5 feet of your location before or after you teleport must make a Charisma saving throw against your Spell DC or roll on the Wild Magic Surge table.
## Improved Battle Casting
At level 18, you can make one weapon attack as a bonus action whenever you use your action to cast a spell.
