Some scholars argue that they originated from the Feywild, each born of a mortal's whimsy, while others claim that they were dreamt up by one of the rare Beholders possessed of a sense of humor. By their very nature, Tuhns defy logic, reason, and most known laws of physics, such that they may very well originate outside of typical causality. ### Larger Than Life ___ Tuhns are instantly recognizable in both appearance and personality: standing out in broad lines and vivid colors, Tuhns look and move as creatures drawn on paper. Their anatomy is a mystery, and many a Tuhn has been known to drastically change in size, shape, or clothing at a moment's notice, often in relation to their emotional state. The motion of a Tuhn also rarely corresponds entirely to their movement: a Tuhn may appear to be sprinting as fast as they can, yet hover stationary a foot above the ground, and then vanish the next moment into the distance in a puff of dust. Matching the often exaggerated appearance of a Tuhn is its personality: while Tuhns have a variety of dispositions and temperaments, they often exist in the extremes, sometimes switching from one to the other in volatile mood swings. Despite the intensity of their emotions, every Tuhn has their own set of personality quirks, even behavioral patterns and catchphrases, so consistent as to be predictable. While most Tuhns are chaotic, few are truly evil, and even those who are rarely end up causing real harm, intended or otherwise. ### Infinite Improbability ___ A well-known characteristic of Tuhns is their tenuous adherence to the common limitations of reality and probability: extremely improbable, if not outright impossible situations become common occurrences around a Tuhn, and sometimes the same extremely improbable outcome may happen multiple times in quick succession. Heavy objects launched at high speeds may stop with a skid and a screech before they hit a Tuhn, who may deflate like a balloon or leap several dozen feet skyward from a mere pinprick. Despite this fabulous array of reality-bending powers, it does not appear that Tuhns have full control over them, nor are even entirely aware of their own abilities. In fact, there is little consistency to the warping of reality that happens around a Tuhn, other than the fact that the outcomes are almost always comical to witness. This has led many to dismiss Tuhns as harmless sources of comic relief, though some have tried to identify the source of this power and claim it for themselves, including by attempting to hunt and consume a Tuhn. None so far have been successful. ### Tuhn Names ___ Tuhn names tend to alliterate or include some form of wordplay, sometimes both. More often than not, these names are evocative of the Tuhn's personality and other defining traits. **Tuhn Names:** Chris P. Bacon, Frank the Ferret, Jacqueline Hyde, Miss Direction, Munificent Marmoset, Sir Loin of Beef. ## Tuhn Traits - ***Ability Score Increase.*** Increase one ability score by 2, and increase a different one by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. - ***Languages.*** You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character. - ***Type.*** You are a Fey. - ***Life Span.*** Tuhns do not age, and live indefinitely until killed. - ***Size.*** You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race. - ***Speed.*** Your walking speed is 35 feet. - ***Close Call.*** Whether through luck, agility, or eldritch reality warping, Tuhns have the uncanny ability to evade danger by a hair's breadth. As a reaction when you are targeted by an attack roll or make a Dexterity saving throw, you can take the Dodge action, gaining its benefits against the triggering attack roll or saving throw. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. - ***Tuhn Magic.*** You know the *prestidigitation* and *thaumaturgy* cantrips. You can cast either cantrip as normal and as a bonus action, and do not require verbal or somatic components to cast either cantrip. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these cantrips (choose when you select this race). {{note ##### Brewer's Note As a player race option intended to emulate cartoon and comic book characters, the Tuhn race aims towards light-hearted roleplay, and may therefore not fit the tone of every adventure. Consult your DM and ask them how serious they intend their adventure to be before suggesting this homebrew race. If you want to use the mechanics presented in this brew in a more serious adventure, consider either reflavoring the Tuhn race or formulating an entirely new race better-suited for the adventure's theme. For a darker take, consider changing the Tuhn to a race of inscrutable, reality-warping eldritch abominations, for example, and change their creature type to Aberration accordingly. }} {{pageNumber, auto}} {{footnote PART 1 | RACE}} \page ## Tuhn Feats #### Hidden Item Compartment *Prerequisite: Tuhn Race* ___ You can carry far more than your frame would suggest. Within you is an extradimensional space that can hold objects, up to a total of 500 pounds. You must use an action or a bonus action to stow or retrieve an object from this space, and if you die, its contents spill out harmlessly around you. Additionally, you can use your action or bonus action to retrieve an item from your extradimensional space that previously did not exist. When you do so, choose the item you retrieve: - A nonmagical simple or martial weapon of your choice. - An item of your choice from the Adventuring Gear table in the *Player's Handbook*. - An item of your choice from the Trinkets table in the *Players Handbook*, or any book you and the DM agree is appropriate. - An item of your choice from the Tools table in the *Player's Handbook*. The item disappears after 1 minute or if you stow it in your extradimensional space. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all expended uses after you finish a long rest. #### Reality Warp *Prerequisite: Tuhn race, 8th level* ___ You master your endless potential for improbable antics. You can cast any spell of 3rd level or lower of your choice from the wizard spell list, using the spell's normal casting time, without using a spell slot, and ignoring material components that do not have a cost. The spell’s spellcasting ability is the ability you chose for your Tuhn Magic trait. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest. ## Tuhn Magic Items #### Anvil Containing Mostly Everything *Wondrous item, legendary* ___ This Medium anvil weighs 500 pounds. The initials for the item's name are engraved on its side. **Tuhn Weightlessness.** The anvil is weightless to Tuhns. Should this item fall 10 feet or more and land on a Tuhn, the Tuhn takes no damage, but is still knocked prone as it is temporarily (and comically) flattened by the anvil. \column **Hammer Space.** A Tuhn can use its action or bonus action to reach into the anvil and pull out an item. The item has the properties of a non-consumable item of Very Rare or lesser rarity of the Tuhn's choosing. If the item requires attunement, the Tuhn attunes to it immediately, regardless of class, race, spell, and level requirements, and it does not count against the Tuhn's attuned item limit. The item and its persistent effects, if any, disappear after 1 minute, or if the Tuhn uses an action or bonus action to stow the item back into the anvil. Once this property is used, it can't be used again until the next dawn. #### Booby Trap *Wondrous item, uncommon* ___ This item bears a resemblance to any random Tiny item, differentiated only by an ominous ticking sound it makes. A creature who inspects this item for the first time must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom (Perception) check to notice the ticking sound. A Tuhn can spend 1 hour changing the item's appearance to a Tiny item of its choosing, which can be done during a short or long rest. When doing so, the Tuhn can specify a condition, which must not be specific to any creature or type of creature. When a creature holding or carrying the item satisfies the condition, the item casts *fireball* as a 3rd-level spell, centered on itself (DC 15 saving throw). After the condition is met, the item no longer casts *fireball* until another condition is set. #### Canyon Charm *Wondrous item, common* ___ While a Tuhn holds, wears, or carries this charm and would begin to fall, it only falls at the start of its next turn. #### Gloves of Onomatopugilism *Wondrous item, rare (+1), very rare (+2), legendary (+3) (requires attunement by a Tuhn)* ___ While you wear these gloves, you gain a bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with unarmed strikes, determined by the item's rarity. Your unarmed strikes also become magical. The gloves have 4 charges, and regain 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn. While you wear these gloves and hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can expend 1 charge to roll a d12 instead of the normal damage of your unarmed strike and push the creature 15 feet away. When you do so, your strike is accompanied by a loud sound emulating the hit (your choice; you must enunciate the sound) audible within 300 feet of you, and a bubble briefly appears above you displaying the sound in written form (you choose the language). {{pageNumber, auto}} {{footnote PART 2 | EXTRAS}} \page # Acknowledgments ## Art This brew uses art assets created by a variety of talented artists.
