The primordial fury of **barbarians** who walk the Path of the Primeval allows them to tap into a deep-rooted connection they have with the wilds from which they hail, their rage beckoning ancient beasts to their side in battle.
The cultures in which they were raised teach them to foster their connection with the wilderness, and to draw on it for aid in times of need. They might hail from a tribe with close ties to a druidic circle, have directly descended from one, have received the ability as a gift from a Fey, or somehow came in possession of an artifact that allows you to call these beasts to your aid.

When you choose this path at 3rd level, your rage unlocks a subconscious, {{width:20px}} primordial connection with nature. While raging, you {{width:20px}}are under the effects {{width:15px}}of
the **Speak with Animals** {{width:20px}}spell.

*3rd-level Path of the Primeval feature*
When you enter your rage, your bloodlust summons a Primeval Beast. It appears in an unoccupied space of your choice within 30 feet of you, or directly underneath you.
The beast is friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands. See its game statistics in the accompanying Primeval Beast stat block, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places. You determine the creature’s appearance and whether it has two legs or four; your choice has no effect on its game statistics.
In combat, the beast acts during your turn. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes is the **Dodge** action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. You can also sacrifice one of your attacks when you take the **Attack** action to command the beast to take the **Attack** action. If you are incapacitated, the beast can take any action of its choice, not just **Dodge**.
The beast remains until it is reduced to 0 hit points, until you end your rage, or until you die. Anything the beast was wear- {{width:20px}}ing or carrying is left behind when the beast {{width:70px}}vanishes. Damage dealt to or by {{width:20px}}the {{width:80px}}Primeval Beast counts towards {{width:80px}}sustaining your rage, and its attacks
{{width:70px}}benefit from your Rage Damage.

**Bite:** The target must make a Constitution saving throw or suffer a penalty to its AC equal to your Rage Damage, lasting until the end of your next turn. This effect does not stack.
**Tail:** The target must make a Constitution saving throw or suffer a penalty to its attack- and damage rolls equal to your Rage Damage. This effect lasts until the start of your next turn.

At 6th level, the bond with your Primeval Beast grows stronger, bolstering its strikes. As a result, your Primeval Beast gains the following benefits:
* **Improved Strikes**. Your Primeval Beast's weapon attacks count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
* **Primeval Recklessness**. The Primeval Beast may now also benefit from Reckless Attack.
* **Untamed Retaliation.** When you or the Primeval Beast is hit by an attack, the other may use their reaction to move up to half their total movement speed and make a melee weapon attack in retaliation. Once you have used this feature, you must wait until the end of your next turn to do so again.

Beginning at 10th level, the brutality of your strikes extend through to your Primeval Beast. Your Primeval Beast gains the following benefits:

* **Unrelenting Fury.** when you command your Primeval Beast to take the Attack action, the beast can make two attacks.

* **Primal Hunger.** When you or the Primeval Beast scores a critical hit, the Primeval Beast gains temporary hit points equal to your Barbarian level.
* **Primal Wrath.** Your Primeval Beast's **Bite** deals an additional 1d10 magical piercing damage, and its **Tail** deals an additional 1d8 magical bludgeoning damage.
