Grasping an arrow suspended in midair, aimed for them as they simply turn it around and send it back. Looking up through smoke and flames as their mind is set on rending the sky itself. With how they almost rip the clouds apart, it seems ever possible. The stars pulling themselves to his side. Deep in solitary, a baker thinks of their past. Happier times which make the world vibrant and bright around them. Spreading slowly like a light which cannot be extinguished. In a moment, the light of the outside world shines on their warm smile. Binding the two as a guard brought back to his past reaches out a hand to free them whether ordered to or not. ### Constructs of Sentimentality An Ardent is one risen with an inherent sense of sentimentality. Holding onto emotional moments like precious treasures so that they can keep the feelings of each. Beating as a heart would to them. Filling them with power and courage for their cause. Using this sentiment, an Ardent can carve out an area of psionic influence. Often reflecting the same personal moments they draw inspiration from. A feeling of betrayal may wrench the life out of land, making it dull and malformed. A moment of respect could lead to the land organizing itself around them as if respecting their presence. The matter melding around them under their willpower and resolve. Anything is possible within ones mind- A place which the Ardent can define in reality. ### Bearer of Willpower The mind of an Ardent is a paradox. Something which draws power from mental anguish, and sustainability from willpower. Something where one can burn out momentarily in the radiance of a star or fizzle away over hours at a dull hum. Dedication is their key principal. The mental fortitude of an Ardent is their strongest weapon. Their capability to take that mental burn. An Ardent can come about in multiple ways. Someone could be born with intense emotional outbursts. So strong that they manifest themselves without intent. One could come into it through circumstance- a mind flayers corruption, a mental break, or a lifetime of monotany or service. Some may simply stumble into their abilities as an Ardent. Their construct coming out in a moment of deep thought and self-reflection to which they wake forever changed. \column ### Heart of a Mind When creating an Ardent, consider their motivation as well as emotion: What moment in their life turned them to this state of adventuring? How did it impact their psionics as an Ardent? What moment peaked these powers? Another thing to keep in mind with Ardent is that not all bursts of Psionics are recognizable at first. To a disoriented, insane, or disconnected invidual, this could simply be how they view the world made physical. To others the discoloration shows something immensely wrong whereas to them it could simply be their own perception of the area around them as natural as breathing. #### Quick Build You can quickly create an Ardent using the following suggestions: Your highest ability score should be Charisma, which is used in your psionics. Bending others perception to fit your own. As an action, You may create a **Terrain**. This terrain is a 30 foot radius sphere created centered on you. It does not move along with you. While in your terrain, you are able to use your Manipulations of Mind. Terrain lasts 1 minute, after which it and it's effects fade. Your terrain is always considered this sphere regardless of what it consists of. It represents your thoughts and mind and is non-magical for purposes of antimagic. ### Mindscape Conditions It often changes affected areas in minor ways which grow pronounced as the user becomes wisened in it's usage. Discoloration, odd sensation, and emotional upticks are common effects. All terrain follow these rules: - Your terrain can overlap. If a passive effect is overlapping, it does not stack in the overlap and will only trigger as if only one terrain were there. - Creatures attempting to remove you from your terrain must make a Charisma saving throw against your manipulation save DC, being unable to push you past the edges of this sphere on a failure. \page ### Manipulations of Mind You gain access to **Manipulations**, the effects of which are listed at the end of this document. Manipulations cost Ardent Psionic Points, or AP, as they will come to be called in this document. All AP is restored on a Long Rest. #### Manipulation Detail You gain access to a max number of Manipulation equivalent to two + twice your proficiency bonus, which can be exchanged during a long rest. These are psionic abilities which can be triggered as they detail. Your Manipulation use the following when needing attack rolls or save DC. ___ ___ ___ **Manipulation Attack Modifier:** Your charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus\ **Manipulation Save DC:** 8 + Your charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus\ **Manipulations Available:** 2 + 2xYour proficiency bonus #### Manipulation Rules The following rules apply to all manipulation: - You may only use one Active manipulation a turn. - You may only have one Passive manipulation active at a time, which you can change for it's listed cost at the start of each of your turns. - Your manipulation require you to be in your terrain to use. Any lingering effects persist there if you move outside of it. ### Thought Focus At second level, your mind sharpens to focus on a core emotional state which suits you. A hardened veteran may find their terrain becoming rigid and sepia. Regimented thinking begeting order and equality in all who enter it. One may find themself a core memory of betrayal and harm, brought to feel a need for revenge such that their terrain shifts to something reductive and murderous. No matter the focus, each Ardent has their moments of emotional outcry. These are what they break into and refine as their minds become reality. Your thought focus grants you a unique Passive and Active manipulation, as well as features at 2nd, 5th, 9th, 13th and 15th level. ### Mobile Mind At third level, you gain the following manipulation. It does not count against your number of known manipulation.\ **Withdraw** 2ap, Active.\ As part of the action made to create your Terrain, you may pull it into yourself. The terrain created only covers a 5 foot radius sphere originating from you, which moves along with you. To maintain this manipulation requires your concentration. On a failed concentration save, the terrain created by this is destroyed. ### Ability Score Improvement
