Martial Archetype - Maid

Though it may seem somewhat surprising, even the humble Maid will take to the battlefield in service of their Masters. Serving as a guard, a retainer, and general cleaner, the Maid helps their Master in whatever they need, whether it be cleaning, cooking, or killing their enemies.

Though a Maid is almost universally female, there can be male Maids as well. Sometimes they're called Butlers. Sometimes they're still Maids.

Chosen Master

At the end of a short or long rest you can choose one friendly creature to serve as your Master. While your master is within 15ft, you and they gain a variety of benefits.

  • If you use your Second Wind feature, your Master also gains hit points equal to the total rolled.
  • If you use Action Surge, your Master can use their Reaction to also take an Action.
  • You can choose one of your Master's saving throws to gain proficiency in, and vice versa.
  • If your Master takes damage you can use your reaction to take half the damage in their place.
Variant: One Master Only!

As written the Chosen Master feature allows you to change your Master regularly, however this might seem incongruous for the Maid fantasy! Optionally, a player might choose to only have the one Master which cannot change while they are still alive. This lack of flexibility in Master-choices lets the Maid focus more on defense. Both she and her Master gain +1 AC while within 15ft of each other.

Never Late For Work

When you take this archetype at 3rd level you add your proficiency bonus to your Initiative rolls.

You additionally learn the Mending and Prestidigation cantrips.

Daily Chores

From 7th level at the end of a long rest you decide what chores to focus on that day, from the following list:-

Cleaning: Your focus is on sweeping up enemies. Once per turn when you hit with an attack, the enemy must make a strength saving throw (DC8 + your proficiency bonus + your strength or dexterity modifier) or be knocked prone.

Cooking: At the end of a short or long rest, you can grant yourself and up to six allies temporary hit points equal to your constitution modifier plus your proficiency bonus plus half your fighter level (rounded up). These last until the next short or long rest.

Hosting: Your dedication to catering for others grants you advantage on Charisma ability checks.

You may only have one chore selected, and can change this on completion of a long rest

Master's Safeguard

From 10th level you can use your bonus action to serve as your master's guard. Attacks against your Master have disadvantage so long as they remain within 15ft of you, until the start of your next turn.

Alternatively, you can use the Help action as a bonus action to aid your Master's attack while they are within 15ft.

Eye for Dirt

From 10th level your ability to spot errant dirt is nearly without peer. You gain proficiency in the Perception skill. If you had this already, you instead gain Expertise in Perception, adding your proficiency bonus twice to ability checks that use it.

A Maid's Touch

As an advanced Maid you are more than capable of granting succor to those under the weather. From 15th level as an action, you can touch another creature to do one of the following:-

  • Cast Greater Restoration (without requiring any spell components).
  • Heal a creature 4d10 + your fighter level hit points.
  • Grant the target creature advantage on all saving throws until the end of your next turn.
  • The target regains one use of a feature that refreshes on a short rest (such as bardic inspiration, a warlock spell slot, or action surge).

A Maid's Touch can be used twice. You regain one expended use on a short rest and all expended uses on a long rest.

Apex Maid

From 18th level you can dedicate your Maid Duties to one of two paths, which you can change on completion of a long rest.

Split Employment. You can now choose two Masters instead of just one, gaining and granting benefits for both while within 15ft of them.

Comforting Presence. The range of your Chosen Master feature increases to 30ft. Both you and your Master gain immunity to the Frightened and Charmed conditions while within range of each other, in addition to the other benefits.
