The Illustrated Artist (Artificer Specialist)

The Illustrated Artist is an Artificer Specialist specialized in embeding body art with Infusions and a multiclass selection of spells.

Illustrated Artists gain proficiency with Calligrapher's Tools and Painter's Tools.

Body Art Infuser

Starting at 3rd level, the Illustrated Artist can spend 1d4 hours producing a Spellwrought Tattoo item directly onto the skin of a willing creature. The Spellwrought Tattoo item produced this way contains a spell from a spell list known to the Artist, of a level equal to the Illustrated Artist's level divided by three, rounded down, up to level 5.

A Spellwrought Tattoo item produced this way will consume spell materials in the same amount as needed for casting to be crafted.

The level of the spell in the tattoo determines the spell's saving throw DC, attack bonus and spellcasting ability modifier as shown in the Spellwrought Tattoo table.

Spellwrought Tattoo
Spell Level Spellcasting ability Mod Save DC Attack Bonus
Cantrip +3 13 +5
1st +3 13 +5
2nd +3 13 +5
3rd +4 15 +7
4th +4 15 +7
5th +5 17 +9

The Illustrated Artist's focus in body art also changes his work with Infusions. After an artificer join this subclass, instead of applying infusions to items, they produce a tattoo that carries the effect of an infusion.

An infusion wrought into a tattoo grants its bonuses to any item of its type worn or equipped by the tattoo bearer. Infusion tattoos require an attunement slot from the bearer and don't couunt against regular Spellwrought Tattoos in size and location.

Arcane Art Research

At 5th Level, the Illustrated Artist must choose a class whose spell list they can access solely for the purpose of producing Spellwrought Tattoos.

Arcane Art Research II

At 9th Level, the Illustrated Artist must choose a class whose spell list they can access solely for the purpose of producing Spellwrought Tattoos.

Scripta Manent

At 15th level, a Spellwrought Tattoo produced by the Illustrated Artist can be reinforced so that they don't vanish after activated. Instead, those tattoos remain on the skin discharged for a number of long rests equal to the contained spell's level.

Those tattoos use three times the materials of a regular Spellwrought Tattoo.
