The Magic of Meal Preperation

While one could consider foodcraft a mystic art not all of the preparers need to have access to the font to serve exquisite foods with professional flair.

This tome goes on to detail the discoveries of those who have worked to advance the field, including the advent of Magical Recipes that upon combining certain rare ingredients can produce a wide variety of magical effects.

Magical Food

Dishes created using certain ingredients have magical properties beyond that of their more standardly made counterparts. However to draw out these properties one must have the right tools and skills.

Anyone Can Cook

As how every individual has latent magical potential that can be trained and honed, so does everyone have potential to cook dishes infused with magical energies.

Making use of magical recipes only requires an upgrade to an existing set of cook’s utensils or brewer’s supplies (depending on the recipe) and the skill to use them.

With the Right Kitchen

Enchanting a set of Cook’s utensils or brewer’s supplies is a simple upgrade carving a sigil into the handle of each tool and then being painted with expensive magic inks amounting to a price of 250gp. Once the process is finished any dish that combines the correct ingredients will turn into its magical variant.

Said salt is said to protect against anything that is said to have an aversion to salt be it plants or undead, and Sylph Salt is commonly what was used in those legends of old.

2lbs of this salt can be spilled out onto the floor, and creatures that are Plants or Undead, cannot willingly cross the line made by the salt as it acts like a solid indestructible wall before them. The salt can cover up to 15ft.

Growing gnarly as it ages, absorbing the nutrients of nearby plants, this fruit gains the moniker of Demonic. For a time, these fruits were sought after by pirates who heard tales of the power they could bring, ultimately falling out of use due to the power they grant being limited.

College of Decadence

By Team Adipea

Culinary Training

The College of Decadence not only teaches song and entertainment to best accompany feasting, but also has its students practice culinary arts. When you join the College of Decadence at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Brewer’s Supplies, Cook’s utensils, and the Eating skill.

Inspired Hunger

At 3rd level, you are a master of the feast whose words and art may inspire gluttony and satedness as desired. Those upon whom you use an inspiration die may at their expend it to expand their stomach capacity by the result of the inspiration die. Additionally, the result of the die is added to the target’s next Eating check. You may expend a use of your bardic inspiration to grant this benefit to yourself.

Alternatively, when a creature you can see within 60 feet of you is targeted by a spell or effect that forces them to make a saving throw against being forcefed or by an attack that would deal stuffing damage on a hit, you can use your reaction to expend a use of Bardic Inspiration and roll your bardic inspiration die, subtracting the result from the target’s save or adding the result to the attack roll.

Encourage Digestion

At 6th level, your performances speak not only to the minds of your audience, but also quite literally to their stomachs. As a reaction, you may cast Abyssal Stomach without expending a spell slot. Your taget must be able to hear you. You may also use this ability to cast Hypnotic Hunger without expending a spell slot. You have two uses of this ability, and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a short or long rest.

For twenty-four hours or until their next long rest, a number of your audience equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1) may double their bulk limit.

Druid

Circle of the Harvest

by Storymaker (revisions by echo_tine)

Some druids would rather share nature’s bounty with as many as they can. They help nature grow strong and numerous plants, which they then use to craft delicious delicacies to help show what bounty the earth can bring. And when others still refuse to respect the power of nature, they bring to bear the danger that gluttony and misuse can bring. This is the Circle of the Harvest; the satisfaction of plenty for their allies, and the terrible penalty of overindulgence for their enemies.

Harvest Spells

Starting at 2nd level, you can summon fruiting plants to aid you, feeding your foes and hampering their movement. You learn the Flail of Fruit cantrip.

When you reach certain levels in this class, you gain access to the spells listed for that level in the Circle of Harvest Spells table. Once you gain access to one of these spells, you always have it prepared, and it doesn’t count against the number of spells you can prepare each day. If you gain access to a spell that doesn’t appear on the druid spell list, the spell is nonetheless a druid spell for you.

Circle of Harvest Spells
Druid Level Spells
3rd Emburden, Locate Animals or Plants
5th Hypnotic Hunger, Overabundance
7th Alluring Feast, Nature’s Bounty
9th Blueberrify, Wrath of Nature

Harvestbringer

At 2nd level, you gain the ability to enhance the generation of food around you. As an action, you can expend a use of your Wild Shape feature to gain 5 temporary hit points for each level you have in this class. While this feature is active, you gain the following benefits.

  • When you deal feeding damage to a creature, you may use your reaction to cause it to take additional feeding damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.
  • When a creature eats food or regains hit points from one of your spells you cast of 1st level or higher, you may use your reaction to cause that creature to regain hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier. Only the first creature who consumes food from a given casting of a spell regains these hit points, and only one time.
  • When a creature regains hit points as a result of being targeted by a spell you cast, you can cause that creature to also gain diet points or pounds of food in its stomach equal to number the hit points it regains.
  • You add your Wisdom modifier to the damage you deal with the Flail of Fruit cantrip.

These benefits last for 10 minutes, until you lose all these temporary hit points, or until you use your Wild Shape again.

Harvest Hand

At 2nd level you gain proficiency with Cook’s Utensils, and whenever you make a Wisdom (Survival) roll to forage for food, you add your levels in druid to the number of pounds of food you find.

Additionally, over the course of 1 minute, you can touch a number of pounds of non-meat food equal to your Druid level and affect them as if by the spell Fattening Food, without requiring your concentration and with a duration of 24 hours.

Plant Transmutation

At 6th level, you can use your touch to immediately turn a nonmagical plant into food, and vice versa. As an Action, you can perform one of the following abilities.

  • Plant to Food. You can turn one nonmagical plant you touch into an amount of food equivalent to its weight, by turning a tree into chocolate or a bush into a stack of apples, for instance. The number of pounds you can transmute with one use of this feature is equal to twice your druid level.
  • Form Food and Plants. You may cast the spell fabricate without expending a spell slot. When you cast it this way, the spell is altered for you in the following ways:
  • The raw materials you choose must be plant-based and can include non-meat food of any composition.
  • The object you fabricate may be a construction not typically associated with the materials you use, but its longevity will suffer for it, and the materials you use will revert to their original form after 1 hour.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier between Long rests.

Shape of the Harvest

At 10th level, when expend your Wild Shape to gain the benefits of your Harvestbringer feature, you take on the appearance of a spirit of nature’s bounty, and you gain the following benefits while you have the temporary HP from your Harvestbringer feature:

  • When you cast a spell on the Circle of Harvest Spells table, you may do so without expending a spell slot. Spells cast this way can still be empowered with your Harvestbringer feature. After you cast a spell this way, you cannot cast that spell again without expending a spell slot until you use your Wild Shape again, and you cannot cast it more than twice this way before the end of your next long rest.
  • You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
  • You can communicate with beasts and plants as if you shared a language.
  • Once on your turn, you can use 10 feet of your movement to step magically into one living tree within your reach and emerge from a second living tree within 60 feet of the first tree, appearing in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the second tree. Both trees must be at least one size larger than you.
  • You gain darkvision out to 60 feet.
  • Your AC can’t be less than 16, regardless of what kind of armor you are wearing.

Harvest’s Wrath

At 14th level, you can call down the wrath of the harvest upon a target, forcing them to feel the penalty of their overindulgence. As an Action, you can force a target you can touch to make a Constitution save against your Spell DC. On a failure, the target takes 1d6 feeding damage for each of your levels in this class, and after taking this damage, the target becomes vulnerable to feeding damage for 1 minute if it was not immune to feeding damage already. Once you have used this ability, you must finish a Long rest before you can do so again.

Fighter

Archetype: Food Fighter

By echo_tine

A highly unorthodox but dangerous sort of fighter, food fighters are born from equal parts desire and necessity; that their weapon of choice is both delicious and easy to find when a bar fight goes bad or a banquet becomes bloody makes them surprisingly versatile, even before considering the magical effects they cook into their attacks. Cook, eat, feed, repeat; this is the life and style of a food fighter.

Food Fight Phenom

At 3rd level, you learn how to use whatever food you can find in the dining room as a weapon. When you use the stuffing attack, you may treat the damage you deal with it as 1d6 + your Strength modifier in stuffing damage, and if you take the Attack action on your turn, you may use your bonus action to make a stuffing attack. Whenever you make a stuffing attack, you can throw the food as if it were a weapon with the Thrown (range 20/60) property.

In addition, you gain proficiency with Cook’s Utensils, and you treat mundane food as being one-tenth its weight for the purposes of carrying it on your person.

Secret Ingredient

Starting at 3rd level, you learn to infuse the food you throw with no small amount of magic. When you gain this feature, you learn two Secret Ingredients of your choice (see “Secret Ingredient” options below).

Once per turn when you make a melee stuffing attack, you can apply one of your Secret Ingredient options to that food. You decide to use the option when the attack hits, unless the option doesn’t involve an attack roll. You have two uses of this ability, and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a short or long rest.

You gain an additional Secret Ingredient option of your choice when you reach certain levels in this class: 7th, 10th, 15th, and 18th level. Each option also improves when you become an 18th level fighter.

Feeder’s Frenzy

At 7th level, your ability to cram food into a creature’s gullet–whether it’s yours or not–is enhanced. The damage die of your stuffing attack attack is increased to a d8. Additionally, you add your Strength modifier to your eating rates.

Open Wide, Wide Open

At 7th level, your precision when throwing food is unbeatable. Attacking at long range using your stuffing attack doesn’t impose disadvantage. Additionally, you can use a Secret Ingredient option on your ranged stuffing attack if the target is within short range.

Larger Larders

Beginning when you reach 10th level in this class, the number of Secret Ingredient uses you have increases to three.

Forever Food-Fight

Starting at 15th level, you always have secret ingredients available whenever battle starts. If you roll initiative and have no uses of Secret Ingredient remaining, you regain one use of it.

Secret Ingredient Options

The Secret Ingredient feature lets you choose options for it at certain levels. They are all magical effects.

If an option requires a saving throw, your Secret Ingredient save DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier.

Ample Apple. A piece of dried fruit packs more pounds than its appearance suggests. The creature hit by your attack must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or it takes 2d8 fattening damage. On a successful save, it only takes half.

The damage increases to 4d8 when you reach 18th level in this class.

Bloating Bean. An inconspicuous sweet bean induces potent swelling. The creature hit by your attack must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or it takes 2d8 inflating damage. On a successful save, it only takes half.

The damage increases to 4d8 when you reach 18th level in this class.

Charming Chocolate. You slip a piece of sweets into your food to make your target sweet on someone. The creature hit by your attack takes an extra 2d8 psychic damage, and you choose one of your allies within 30 feet of the target. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw, or it is charmed by the chosen ally until the start of your next turn. This effect ends early if the chosen ally attacks the charmed target, deals damage to it, or forces it to make a saving throw.

The psychic damage increases to 4d8 when you reach 18th level in this class.

Dragonfire Spice. You spice your food with impossibly hot pepper. Immediately after the attack hits your target, the target and all creatures in a 25 foot cone originating from the target in a direction of your choice take 2d8 fire damage.

The fire damage increases to 4d8 when you reach 18th level in this class.

Feezing Frosting. Chilly icing saps your target’s strength. The creature hit by the attack takes an extra 2d8 cold damage. The target must also succeed on a Constitution saving throw, or the damage dealt by its weapon attacks is halved until the start of your next turn.

The cold damage increases to 4d8 when you reach 18th level in this class.

Honey Bomb. When the attack strikes its target, honey explodes from the food and covers the target. The creature hit by the attack takes an extra 2d8 stuffing damage, its speed is reduced by 10 feet, and it takes 2d8 slashing damage the first time on each turn it moves 1 foot or more without teleporting as the honey pulls painfully at the target’s skin. The target or any creature that can reach it can use its action to eat the honey and free itself with a successful Constitution (Eating) check against your Secret Ingredient save DC, eating 2 pounds of food with every attempted check. Otherwise, the honey lasts for 1 minute or until you use this option again.

The stuffing damage and slashing damage both increase to 4d8 when you reach 18th level in this class.

Munchie Mushrooms. This secret ingredient makes food so appetizing it doesn’t even need to be swallowed first. When you use this option, you don’t make an attack roll for the attack. Instead, all creatures within 5 feet of you, ignoring cover, must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes damage as if you had hit them with a melee stuffing attack, plus an extra 1d8 stuffing damage. On a successful save, a target takes half as much damage as they resist eating the teleporting food.

The stuffing damage increases to 2d8 when you reach 18th level in this class.

Seeker Salt. You forego the need to feed your target yourself as the salt in your food seeks them for you. When you use this option, you don’t make an attack roll for the attack. Instead, choose one creature you have seen in the past minute. The food flies toward that creature, moving around corners if necessary and ignoring three-quarters cover and half cover. If the target is within 300 feet and there is a path large enough for the food to travel to the target, the target must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, it takes damage as if it were hit by the food, plus an extra 1d8 force damage, and you learn its location. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage, and you don’t learn its location.

The force damage increases to 2d8 when you reach 18th level in this class.

Shadow Sugar. Black sugar makes your target’s cravings tunnel-vision on any food in sight, to the exclusion of seeing anything else. The creature hit by the attack takes an extra 2d8 psychic damage, and it must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be unable to see anything farther than 5 feet away besides prepared food until the start of your next turn.

The psychic damage increases to 4d8 when you reach 18th level in this class.

Monk

Monk: Way of the Bao

Original Concept from MammaryMaenad, Homebrew by Blank

Through the preparation of delicious morsels, the monks of the Way of the Bao are taught to become as steady and round as a simmering pot. Stoic in the face of adversity and generous with their serving sizes, these individuals are far plumper than other monks. Yet, as those with the largest bellies are also the hardest to knock down, they tend to view plumpness as an invaluable asset in battle, and incorporate it directly into their fighting style. Kindly monks of this tradition might travel far in search of exotic recipes or mouths in need of feeding. However, others might be more selfish, and only concern themselves with finding their next meal.

Hospitable Helpings

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Cook’s utensils, and add double your proficiency bonus to checks you make with them. Using your Cook’s utensils, you can spend 1 hour preparing an amount equal to your monk level in pounds of mouth-watering dumplings or other foodstuffs. Any food you prepare spoils if uneaten for 8 hours. Creatures who eat 1 pound of food prepared this way regain 1d4 hit points and gain weight equal to your martial arts die. If a creature already has full health, they gain temporary hit points instead.* In addition, you gain a bonus to the Eating skill equal to your proficiency bonus, if already proficient, you add it a second time.

Ki Transfer

Also at 3rd level, when you would use Step of the Wind or Patient Defense, you can instead choose to touch an ally and grant them the benefits of that ki feature until the end of their next turn, you can do this a number of times up to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once) and regain all uses after a short or long rest. Additionally, when you use this feature, you can choose to roll your martial arts die + your wisdom modifier, and lose a number of BP equal to the total, while the target gains that number of BP.

Iron Stomach

At 6th level, your abdominal fortitude improves your endurance. When you’re subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Constitution saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage if you succeed, and only half if you fail.

Food for Thought

At 11th level, when using your Hospitable Helplings feature you may imbue your cooking with your own inner ki. By spending a ki point, you can create a dumpling that heals an amount equal to your martial arts die + your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1) + your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1). Any creature who eats a ki enhanced dumpling also gains BP equal to the amount healed. Dumplings made in this way count towards the maximum amount you can make using your Hospitable Helplings feature.

Hungering Palms

At 17th level, you can now choose Flurry of Blows or Stunning Strike as one of the ki features to use with Transfer Ki, as well as this, when you end a turn where you have used a ki feature, until the beginning of your next turn, if a creature attacks you while within 10 feet of you, you can use a reaction to move up to 5 feet toward them and make an unarmed strike, if the attack hits, the creature is knocked prone.

Rules Reminder

Healing can’t restore temporary hit points, and they can’t be added together. If you have temporary hit points and receive more of them, you decide whether to keep the ones you have or to gain the new ones. For example, if a spell grants you 12 temporary hit points when you already have 10, you can have 12 or 10, not 22. If you have 0 hit points, receiving temporary hit points doesn’t restore you to consciousness or stabilize you. They can still absorb damage directed at you while you’re in that state, but only true healing can save you. Unless a feature that grants you temporary hit points has a duration, they last until they’re depleted or you finish a long rest.

Spells

Create Meal Amalgam

*3rd level conjuration

  • Classes: Wizard, Artificer
  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: touch
  • Components: V, S, M (a sappy plant stem)
  • Duration: instantaneous
This spell creates an undead servant. Choose a pile of uneaten food or scraps from leftovers within range Your spell imbues the target with a foul mimicry of life, raising it as an undead creature. The target becomes a Meal Amalgam (the GM has the creature’s game statistics). On each of your turns, you can use a bonus action to mentally command any creature you made with this spell if the creature is within 60 feet of you (if you control multiple creatures, you can command any or all of them at the same time, issuing the same command to each one). You decide what action the creature will take and where it will move during its next turn, or you can issue a general command, such as to guard a particular chamber or corridor. If you issue no commands, the creature only defends itself against hostile creatures. Once given an order, the creature continues to follow it until its task is complete. The creature is under your control for 24 hours, after which it stops obeying any command you’ve given it. To maintain control of the creature for another 24 hours, you must cast this spell on the creature again before the current 24-hour period ends. This use of the spell reasserts your control over up to four creatures you have animated with this spell, rather than animating a new one. At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, you animate or reassert control over two additional Undead creatures for each slot above 3rd. Each of the creatures must come from a different pile of food.
