Barbarian Primal Path: The King Fisher

You hail from a tribe of proud fishermen who pride themselves on their unparalelled skills at hunting sharks, whales, and other large aquatic creatures using a specialized set of hooks.

Seaborn

When you choose this path at 3rd level, you become adapted to a life at sea. When you forage and have access to a body of water with bountiful fish or other edible aquatic life, you acquire twice as much food as normal.

Additionally, while you are not wearing heavy armor, you have a swimming speed equal to your normal speed.

Hook, Line, and Sink 'Em

Also at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the hook chain (see the hook chain sidebar), a specialized weapon used by your tribe for fishing large aquatic creatures, as well as an effective combat tool.

In addition, while you are raging, when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can make a free shove attempt to knock that creature prone, or make a grapple attempt using a free hand.

If the weapon you hit with is a hook chain, you can instead make a grapple attempt using that weapon, either pulling the hit creature to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you, or pulling yourself to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of that creature on a success. If there is no such space, and the creature is greater than 5 feet away from you, you cannot perform a grapple this way.

Hook Maneuvering

Climbing icy outcroppings and leaping fissures is a breeze for you. Beginning at 6th level, you can use your hooks to efficiently maneuver yourself. While you are not wearing heavy armor you gain a climbing speed equal to your normal speed, and you can jump vertically and/or horizontally up to 10 feet without a running start.

You must be able to anchor yourself using your chain hook (or an equivalent item) to an object, structure, or creature within or adjacent to your destination in order to benefit from this feature.

Wide Net

Also at 6th level, you have mastered the art of hooking and combatting creatures much larger than you. While you are raging, you can grapple and shove creatures up to two size categories larger than you, and the reach of your melee attacks increases by 5 feet during your turn only.

Back Breaker

Beginning at 10th level, you can employ a deadly technique used to assist in the swift dispatch of sharks and other creatures you fish, and which is equally effective on your foes. You can attempt a Back Breaker maneuver as a bonus action. When you do, select one creature you are grappling, or that is prone within 5 feet of you. That creature must make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier), taking 2d12 damage and being paralyzed until the start of your next turn on a failure.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

King Fisher

At 14th level, you gain the ability to swing your hook around obstacles to strike at targets unerringly. You ignore half and three-fourths cover when attacking with a melee weapon. In addition, your hook chain can go around corners or other obstacles to hit its target, provided it has enough length and you know your target is there.

Hook Chain

A nasty hook attached to the end of a long chain. The wielder essentially hurls the hook at their foe, then instantly retracts it.
