Class Features

The following are the class features of the Void Mage.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

Void Mages are proficient with all simple and martial weapons and are proficient in light and medium armor as well as shields (not including tower shields).

Disruption (Su)

At 1st level, a Void Mage gains the ability to disrupt spell casting with a touch. As a melee touch attack, the Void Mage can place a disruptive field around the target. While the field is in place, the target must make a concentration check to cast any spell or to use a spell-like ability in addition to any other required concentration checks. The DC of this check is equal to 15 + twice the spell’s level. If the check is failed, the target’s spell is wasted. This field lasts for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 your Void Mage level (minimum 1). You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

Counter Spell Casting

A Void Mage is adept at countering all types of magic using the void. As an immediate action whenever a spell or spell like ability is being cast the Void Mage may make a spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell level) to identify the spell and counter it with an equivalent level counter spell slot. The Void Mage adds 1/2 their effective Void Mage level to all spellcraft checks made to identify spells. Once the spell has been identified, the Void Mage must make a Dispel Check of 1d20 + Void Mage caster level against the opponent’s DC of 11 + opponent’s caster level. A Void Mage may choose to use a counter spell slot of a greater level to help overcome the magic. For every counter spell slot higher the Void Mage uses to counter the spell being cast, the Void Mage gains an additional +2 to their Dispel Check.

They may also target on-going effects with this ability as well, provided they are able to identify the correct level spell that is in effect. Retries are allowed on on-going effects but cannot be retried on instantaneous effects. A Void Mage may counter orisions, 0 level spells, an unlimited amount of times per day.

To prepare and cast counter spells, the Void Mage must have a Charisma score equal to 10 + spell level of the spell they are countering. In addition, a Void Mage gets bonus counter spell slots with a high Charisma score. A Void Mage must spend an hour each day attuning to the void to gain their counter spell slots back. Casting counter spells is not subject to an armor’s arcane spell failure rating, but does provoke an attack of opportunity if cast while the Void Mage is threatened.

A Void Mage may use this ability to temporarily suppress a permanent spell or magic item’s effect in the same manner. The DC = 11 + the item’s caster level. The magic item’s properties return after 1d4 + 1 rounds.

A Void Mage can permanently dispel magic items and permanent spell effects with their counter spells. The Void Mage must be higher level than the caster who had originally cast the spell / created the magic item at the time it was cast/made and they must use a spell slot 1 level higher than the target spell being dispelled.

A Void Mage must have a free hand to be able to use this ability. The Void Mage may use a hand that is wielding a shield as their free hand for this ability.

Evasion (Ex)

At 2nd level and higher, a Void Mage can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If she makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, she instead takes no damage. Evasion cannot be used if the Void Mage is wearing Heavy armor. A helpless void mage does not gain the benefit of evasion.

Void Reinforcement (Ex)

At 3rd level and beyond, a Void Mage gains a boost to their dispel check when attempting to counter a spell. At 3rd level a Void Mage gets +1 to their dispel check plus an additional +1 every 3 levels beyond 3rd, up to +6 at level 18.

2

Suppression Strike (Su)

At 4th level a Void Mage can imbue their weapon with void magic which suppresses a spell caster’s ability to cast and use magic. On a successful hit the void magic is expended from the weapon and merges with the target. The target must make a Fortitude save against the Void Mage’s DC of 10 + 1/2 Void Mage Level + Charisma Modifier. On a successful save the target overcomes the void magic’s influence and the void magic dissipates leaving the target unaffected. On a failed save the target cannot cast magic spells or use spell like abilities for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 the Void Mage’s level. At the end of their turn, the target may make a new Fortitude save on each subsequent round thereafter to try and break the effect. If the Void Mage misses with the strike this ability stays active on the weapon until either the void mage hits a target, drops the weapon, gets knocked unconscious, or voluntarily releases the void magic from the weapon. A Void Mage may choose instead to target an item held or worn by an opponent. Attempting this is considered a sunder attempt therefore all bonus and conditions to a sunder attempt apply. For instance, if the Void Mage does not have the Improved Sunder feat, this action provokes an attack of opportunity. A Void Mage can use this ability up to 3 + their cha mod per day. A Void Mage must have a free hand to be able to use this ability. The Void Mage may use a hand that is wielding a shield as their free hand for this ability. This effect does not suppress any magic on the weapon the Void Mage is wielding. At level 20 the void mage may use suppression strike an unlimited amount of times per day.

Siphon

At 4th level and higher while Suppression Strike is affecting a target that has magic casting capabilities a Void Mage may choose 1 siphon bonus to add to themselves from the stolen magical essence of the target. The Void Mage can only benefit from one siphon bonus from one target at a time. The Void Mage may choose a new/different siphon bonus each time Suppression Strike takes effect, but only one bonus may be active at a time.

Combat Casting (Ex)

Quick Counter (Ex)

At 6th level a Void Mage can use their attack of opportunity to cast counter spell as an immediate action. A Void Mage can use this ability once per day at 6th level, plus one additional time per day for every 3 levels beyond 6th.

3

Diamond Soul (Ex)

At 11th level, a void mage gains spell resistance equal to his current Void Mage level + 10. In order to affect the Void Mage with a spell, a spellcaster must get a result on a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) that equals or exceeds the Void Mage’s spell resistance.

Greater Counter Spell Casting

At 11th level a Void Mage gains Greater Counter Spelling ability. With the use of a 6th level slot or higher the Void Mage may instead target any number of spells that are 5th level and below on a single target or area. They can choose to end some or all of the spells affecting that person or area.

Void Protection (Ex)

At 13th level a Void Mage gains immunity to all magical diseases, poisons, and cannot be magically aged.

Improve Evasion (Ex)

At 14th level and higher, a Void Mage can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. Now even if she fails a Reflex saving throw against an attack she instead takes half damage instead of full damage. Improved Evasion cannot be used if the Void Mage is wearing Heavy armor. A helpless void mage does not gain the benefit of improved evasion.

Spellbreaker (Ex)

At 19th level and higher, a Void Mage gains the Spellbreaker feat. Enemies in a Void Mages threatened area that fail their checks to cast spells defensively provoke attacks of opportunity from the Void Mage.

Anti-Magic Field Permanency (Su)

At level 20 a Void Mage becomes a spell caster’s worst nightmare. At will the Void Mage may use Anti-magic field on themself as a supernatural ability. As a standard action they can activate or deactivate this ability with unlimited duration. The Void Mage must be conscious to use and maintain this ability.

Ex-Void Mage

While a character has class level in Void Mage they cannot take classes in any class that uses or casts arcane spells. However, If a Void Mage wishes to devote their life to casting magic rather than dispelling it with the void, they may spend a considerable amount of time transitioning into a class that casts arcane spells. Once a Void Mage decides to drop the Void Mage class and become an arcane caster they may redirect all class levels to the selected arcane spell class they’ve worked to become. (e.g. If a 6th level Void Mage wants to become a Wizard The must choose to spend all of level 7 training as Wizard, forgoing all benefits of the Void Mage. Once they’ve gained enough experience to level, they would then be considered an 8th level wizard)
