Phoenix Sorcery

Your power draws from the immortal flame that fuels the legendary phoenix. You or your ancestors perhaps rendered a phoenix a great service, or you were born in its presence. Whatever the cause, a shard of the phoenix’s power dwells within you. That power is a mixed blessing. Like the mythical creature, you can invoke fiery energy and gain the ability to cheat death itself.

Phoenix Spells

You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Phoenix Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.

Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be an abjuration or evocation spell from the cleric or sorcerer spell list.

Mantle of Flame

Starting at 1st level, you can unleash the phoenix fire that blazes within you. As a bonus action, you magically wreathe yourself in swirling fire, as your eyes glow like hot coals. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:

  • Holy Ember. You shed bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet.
  • Rebuke of Flame. When a creature hits you with a melee attack within 5 feet of you or touches you, the creature takes damage equal to half of your sorcerer level (minimum of 1).
  • Flames of Life. Once on each of your turns, when you cast a spell that either deals fire or radiant damage, or restores hit points, the damage dealt or hit points restored gains a bonus equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1).

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all expended uses once you finish a long rest.

Nourishing Flames

Starting at 6th level, your divine and fire spells soothe and restore you. When you expend a spell slot to cast a spell that includes a fire or radiant damage roll, you regain hit points equal to the slot’s level + your Charisma modifier.

Holy Flames

Additionally at 6th level, your divine flames cannot easily be resisted and protects you from other flames. You gain resistance to fire damage. Additionally, when you cast a spell that deals fire damage, you can expend 1 sorcery point to change the spell’s damage type to radiant damage.

Phoenix Spark

At 14th level, the fiery energy within you grows restless and vengeful. In the face of defeat, it surges outward to preserve you in a fiery roar. Whenever you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to instead be reduced to 1 hit point and restore a number of hit points equal to your sorcerer level. Additionally, each creature within 10 feet of you takes either fire or radiant damage (your choice when you use this feature) equal to half your sorcerer level plus your charisma modifier.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Additionally, if a spell, such as Raise Dead, has the sole effect of restoring you to life (but not undeath), the caster doesn’t need material components to cast the spell on you.

Form of the Phoenix

At 18th level, you finally master the spark of fire that dances within you. When you use Mantle of Flame feature, you can give yourself the following benefits as well(no action required):

  • You have a flying speed equal to your walking speed and can hover.
  • Immunity to Fire damage and resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from non-magical attacks.
  • When you use the Holy Flame feature, you can choose to reroll a number of damage dice equal to your charisma modifier (minimum of +1) and take the higher roll for each die.
  • If you use your Phoenix Spark, that feature deals an extra 20 fire damage to each creature.

Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest or use 6 sorcery points to use it again.
