Merits/Flaws

Disfigured Ø Ø O O O The difficulty of all challenges relating to social interactions increase by two.May not have an Appearance rating higher than two.
Rotten Liar Ø Ø Ø O O The opposite of the Perfect Liar Merit; no matter how good your story is, no matter how well-prepared you may be, your deceptions are rather transparent. Add two to the difficulty of any roll in which you attempt a lie, disguise, misdirection or other form of deception.
Echoes Ø O O O O Colin’s voice, when heard by someone with a personal connection to one or more Avatar shards in Mia’s grasp, will hear that Mage’s voice over Colin’s - whether replacing Colin’s voice, or as someone(s) chorusing Colin’s words.
Parlor Trick Dot O O O O Entropy; Can always call the result of a coin toss or a die roll. Not influence it, just predict it.
Parlor Trick Dot O O O O Correspondence; Can always draw or engrave perfect patterns or geometric shapes in freehand - circles, squares, Fibonacci spirals, fractals, etc. - so long as he’s using familiar tools. This does not extend to magical runes and handwriting and the like, only mathematical shapes. He could carve a perfect cube without rolling, but not a perfect - or even good - d6.
Poker Face Dot Dot O O O No matter what happens, you maintain a facade of perfect calm. Nothing short of an extradimensional deific manifestation can make you blink, and even that might not do it. The appearance may be deceptive — you could be screaming inside for all anyone knows — but quite complete… and very disconcerting.
Apprentice Dot Dot Dot Dot Dot Sweet little Anna is a legal handful in oh so many ways, AND a bundle of trauma to be treated therapeutically and carefully.

Foci

A set of various engraved monocles
Flat lenses set in finely engraved silver loops, each sporting a set of glyphs for their appropriate sphere aspects, used for up-close analysis (First-dot spells, really). Entropy-attuned lens is gone, broken and gifted to a trash Spirit.
A pair of glasses
Perfectly round, each with a complex set of glyphs and runes along the inner rim of the frames, for essentially all first-dot needs for all seven Spheres Colin knows. These replace the monocles for daily use. Currently broken by troll knee to face. Colin’s face didn’t fare much better, but was quickly repaired.
A Chaos Wand
Twisted, gnarly and only vaguely wand-shaped, dark wood with odd silver squiggles embedded throughout, primarily for the purpose of applying Entropy (obvously).
Space-time cutting Dagger
A silver dagger inscribed with runes and odd equations pertaining to distance, used for manipulating space and time. Bugger all edge, will hardly cut liquids.
Small silver cup
Shallow cup, perfectly circular, with a carefully engraved pattern around the rim; very good for scrying across space and time, also useful for pouring a drink of water in a pinch.
Small silver “laser pointer”
Does not actually contain power source or electronics, but is a thin tube with a perfectly polished inner surface, capped on one end and with a narrow aperture on the other. This is a Focus specifically for opening a portal to somewhere sunny, to create a ray of sunlight which can be aimed with pinpoint accuracy to avoid another tragedy like at the junkyard.

What I Got

Rotes

Games of Luck (Entropy 2)
Standard rote, usually used for lottery tickets with just enough success to win one of the lower prizes; never the Big One more than once every seven or eight years, to avoid too much undue attention.
Locate Disorder and Weakness (Entropy 1)
Standard rote, mainly used to find and fix weak points in jewelry during production.
Analyze Substance (Matter 1)
Standard rote, see above.
Clearing the Ways (Prime 1)
Basically this rote “flushes out” leftover resonance from the Mage’s system. It can be used on a larger scale, but that requires a somewhat larger circle and more elaborate material representations; a simple octagram on a single sheet of paper, with a few doodles to symbolize the involved elements, will suffice for just the caster.
Essence Scrambler (Prime 2 Entropy 2)
Creates a ward, a barrier either around a person or persons, or around a solid object like a vehicle, a container or a room, or even a house, which renders everything inside the barrier virtually impossible to pinpoint magically, and completely disrupts personal Resonances, and even some supernatural impairments that might otherwise be noticed at a distance, such as Adley’s carrying voice. Has the disadvantage of disrupting wireless signals in the process, making mobile communications difficult - though wired signals are not impaired, enabling Colin to get internet in his apartment via a cabled wireless extender in the apartment.
Power Drain (Prime 2)
An enhancement on Clearing the Ways’ octagram, tapping into a nearby available source of Quintessence and using it to fuel a shard of Prime energy without going through the caster; the effect is similar to the Void Engineers’ Divert Prime Force, but the purpose is to drain a power supply rather than to make any practical use of it. The shard does reflect the qualities of the Quintessence hovered up.
Under the Radar (Entropy 2)
a simple little ritual that decreases the chance toward zero for Colin to accidentally run into trouble when he’s out - such as getting spotted as a Mage by your friendly neighborhood HIT-Mark in the dairy aisle at the local grocer’s. It will not have any effect on anyone specifically looking for him, whether that be an Archmage with a grudge or the sleeper mailman with a letter needing a signature.
Spider-Sense (Correspondence 1)
Allows Colin to sense when anyone or anything changes their vector in his presence, whether it be a pedestrian who suddenly turns to cross the street in front him, or a car that slows conspicuously down as it approaches from behind. Essentially, an early warning radar, which Colin has not really used since he had his PTSD treated.
Morning News (Entropy, Correspondence, Spirit and Prime 1)
Colin reads the newspaper, and as he skims the pages, he can immediately tell whether or not a case is, in fact, related to the supernatural world. Additional successes will yield more precise insights, to the tune of determining whether something was related to spirits, vampires, Mages, werewolves, etc. - an extreme number of successes might reveal identifying information about the involved individuals themselves.
Parma Magica - Old Form.
Colin’s not relying much on it, for obvious political reasons. Working on adapting its principles to his own scrambler.
Maxwell’s Demon (Forces 2)
An area is separated from its surroundings, whether a cylinder reaching to the ceiling (best not done outside, as it can get vulgar as all hell if it hits a plane or satellite or something), where the demarcation line serves like Maxwell’s Demon, keeping air molecules above a certain velocity (heat) outside, bringing the internal temperature down to a predetermined level and keeping it stable, or keeping the heat within the designated area, up to a predetermined temperature. Very good for keeping refrigerated food cold, or preventing heat loss in freezing climates.

Background

Former RAF helicopter pilot, participated in Desert Storm in 1990-1991, where he Awakened as his helicopter was shot down. His first spell managed to protect his copilot and passengers from injury, though Colin himself suffered extensive facial lacerations, and looks somewhat less than appealing, even 25 years later. He rooted his understanding of magic in rather an immense pile of Fantasy books while in convalescence (adding to his literary predilections prior to enlisting), and is essentially entirely self-taught, though his methods seem to an extent to align with Hermetic approaches (seeing as how a large majority of Fantasy seems to draw on those tropes for wizards), and he remains an Orphan, while essentially trying to remain on cordial footing with the Traditions. His affinity for Entropy has, however, allowed a few lottery jackpots, so his finances are fairly comfortable, even if his actual skills with money are… less honed. After his dismissal from the RAF, he learned the silversmith’s craft, and eventually emigrated to America, where he found a new home in a cozy Chantry in Boston.

Paradigm

At the base level of Reality, Magic is, well, impossible. Reality is an Immovable Object, and a Mage is absolutely not an Unstoppable Force. Trying to affect the world directly with magic is, at best, dangerous, as the world will react swiftly with immense resistance, and probably a backlash, to any attempt to build a magical effect. A Mage who wishes to do something, however, has the advantage of a small “breathing space” - the ability to establish a tiny pocket of nonreality, where anything the Mage wishes can be accomplished, and then turning that pocket inside out to unleash a completely established effect into an unprepared Reality. When this is done, Reality seldom has the time to prevent the effect from happening - not being able to “perceive” the spell coming into existence before it is finished - but swift and harsh retribution on the Mage and their Foci might yet occur…

Appearance

Around average height, brown hair, and a face which looks slightly more patchy than Robert de Niro’s portrayal of Frankenstein’s Creature. He remains a bit shy and awkward around crowds of strangers, but makes an effort to be polite.

Belongings

A comfortable amount of wealth, and a small, convenient Sanctum of his own, adjacent to the Chantry, sporting a few small workbenches, a large, permanent silver circle embedded in the floor, several shelves with assorted materials and the like - mostly silver bars and plates, and some wide range of more or less precious gemstones. The Sanctum does, in fact, sport a small storefront, and the clerk is an honest, efficient and capable young lady fairly compensated for her work - the jewelry store doesn’t run with much of an actual profit, but not so poorly as to make it a financial liability. There’s also the old service pistol - a 9mm Browning Mark III - for which he has the necessary ownership permits and carry permit. 2 drams of slightly Dynamic Tass. 1 pile of Tremere Tass, to be used for something beautiful and combustive. 1 pile of Ventrue Tass, to be used as and when needed, perhaps for demonstration purposes.

More recently, a brass cane, decorated with perfect circles around its length, reshaped from the twisted and many-branched staff that once belonged to the Fallen chronomancer Rust, as well as a large brass keyring with Rust’s many keys.

Notes

Colin doesn’t exactly spend long hours at his Sanctum; usually only when he has to make something - and the store clerk doesn’t have access to it - but some of his less mundane pieces have found their way out on the open market; the display of “little Good Luck Charms” does seem to keep its promise, for example. So far, there haven’t been any unpleasant visits from unspecified “government” organizations or the like, and Colin hopes to keep it that way… Not that he actually sells anything really powerful through his store, of course. Colin’s second language, which he reads, writes and speaks quite fluently, is Latin. There are a few Hermetics and Choristers in the Chantry, however, who would dispute that. One younger sister (still unmarried at 36), parents still alive in England. His girlfriend (wife-to-be) is Freddy, the Virtual Adept with an internet troll for an Avatar. Colin has also legally adopted Anna, the Fallen reincarnation of Louis DuMonte, who is also his apprentice.
