Halfling Subraces

Presented in this document are two new subraces for the halfling: the Scalespoken halfling and the Trickstep halfling, both touched by the magic of some greater power.

Scalespoken

Scalespoken halflings have passed down legends, advice, and occasionally a few magic tricks taught to them centuries ago by some dragons observant enough to take notice of the little folk underfoot. Whether these dragons were originally chromatic or metallic doesn’t matter much now; matters of the great schisms between the dragons are largely considered too weighty for polite company in halfling society.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma or Wisdom score increases by 1.

Ancient Rhetoric. You gain proficiency in either Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion.

Draconic Spark. You learn one cantrip of your choice from the following list: acid splash, fire bolt, poison spray, ray of frost, shocking grasp, thaumaturgy. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma (your choice when you gain this trait) is your spellcasting ability for this cantrip.

Trickstep

Trickstep halflings form loose communities in areas where the Material Plane borders the Feywild, and commune frequently with fey creatures. Of all the halflings, these ones are said to be the ones with the greatest affinity for playing pranks, an instinct that carnivals and spymasters alike have utilized when recruiting them.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma or Intelligence score increases by 1.

Bag of Tricks. You gain proficiency in either Acrobatics, Sleight of Hand, or Performance.

Trickstep. As a bonus action, you can magically teleport to a visible, unocupied space within 30 feet. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
