Sacred Oath

At 3rd level, a paladin gains the Sacred Oath feature. Here is a playtest option for that feature: the Oath of Revolution.

Oath of Revolution

The Oath of Revolution is one that strives for the only true equality that can exist in this world. Those who hold power and wealth divide us and it is those divisions that breed war, suffering, and hatred. It is your mission to bring true peace to this world, but it can only be accomplished through a single means: inspiring sweeping, radical revolution. All who desperately cling to power will be called to account.

Tenets of Revolution

The tenets of the Oath of Revolution reflect a paladin’s commitment to peace, prosperity, and equality through the collective revolution of all oppressed peoples.

  • Social Classes Breed Inequality. As long as the world is divided into the haves and the have-nots, there can never be peace.
  • Creation is the True Mark of Mortality. Until all people are free to pursue their passions, they shall always be in chains.
  • Inspire Radical Change. Any true revolution must be started from the ground up. Encourage others to fight for their freedoms.
  • One World, One People. The lines that divide us are the source of all conflict. Abolish power, abolish classes, abolish nations. Abolish even the gods.
  • Eat the Rich. This goes without saying.

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of Revolution Spells table. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how oath spells work.

Channel Divinity

3rd-level Oath of Revolution feature

You gain the following two Channel Divinity options. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how Channel Divinity works.

Inspire Resilience. You can use your Channel Divinity to inspire resilience in your comrades. As a bonus action, all non-hostile creatures that can hear you gain advantage on saving throws against being blinded, charmed, deafened, frightened, paralzed, and stunned for the next minute.

Voice of the People. You can use your Channel Divinity as a bonus action to gain supernatural persuasiveness: for the next 10 minutes, you have advantage on all Charisma ability checks.

To Each According to Need

7th-level Oath of Revolution feature Your revolutionary zeal and demonstrations of progress can supernaturally bolster your allies. Whenever you score a critical hit or reduce a creature to 0 hit points, you can choose one or more creatures that you can see within 30 feet of you, up to a number equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of one creature). All the chosen creatures are affected by one of the following effects of their choice:

  • The creature gains temporary hit points equal to half your level (rounded down) + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1 temporary hit point).
  • The creature may immediately make a saving throw against a single spell or effect they are currently under.
  • The creature gains advantage on their next attack roll.
  • The creature may use the Dodge action as a bonus action on their next turn.

Call to Action

15th-level Oath of Revolution feature You inspire revolutionary fervor. On your turn as a bonus action, you unleash a rallying cry to all of your comrades. All non-hostile creatures that can see and hear you may immediately use their reaction to make a single weapon attack against a target in their range. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short rest.

Instrument of Transformation

You take the spirit of revolution inside you, letting it change you so you can change the world. As a bonus action, you gain the following benefits for 10 minutes:

  • You are immune to all conditions except for invisible and unconscious. Any conditions besides these that you are currently suffering from immediately end when you use this feature.
  • And illusions or magical effects that create barriers (such as the various wall spells) within a 10 foot radius circle around you automatically fail, even if they already fail.
  • Once per turn as a bonus action, you may activate the effects of your To Each According to Need feature, even if you have not scored a critical hit or reduced a creature to 0 hit points.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest
