Actions

Multiattack. Smiling Ape makes two attacks: one with his staff and one with his fists, or two with his fists.

Quarterstaff. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage.

Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage. On a hit, instead of dealing damage Smiling Ape can grapple the target (escape DC 13).

Flurry of Blows (Recharge 5-6). Smiling Ape makes three attacks: one with his staff and two with his fists. Any creature hit by his fist attacks this round must succeed on a DC 12 Strength save or be knocked prone.

Step of the Wind (Recharge 5-6). Smiling Ape can take the Dodge, Disengage or Dash action as a bonus action on his turn, and his jumping distance is tripled until the end of his turn.

Reactions

Deflect Missiles. When Smiling Ape is hit by a ranged weapon attack, he can use his reaction to deflect or catch the missile. The damage he takes from the attack is reduced by 8 (1d10+3).

Description

As the name implies, this is just a CR 1/2 Ape raised by Open Hand monks and with three levels worth of class.

Math gives me offensive CR 3, and deffensive 1/2 before counting Step of the Wind and Deflect Missiles.
