Cantrips of Festivus

Happy holidays!

These twelve Cantrips of Festivus may be cast by any magic user during the holiday season. Even non-magic users may employ these spells if they believe with all their heart in the magic of the holidays. (Of course always consult your DM before game time!)

Holiday Cheer

Enchantment cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: 30 feet
  • Components: S, V, M (a sip of alcohol is consumed)
  • Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes

You improve the mood of all creatures in range that are aware of the holiday season for the duration. Against the grumpy and bitter few, if you succeed on a Charisma check, you bring a smile to their face and joy to their heart.

Declare Miracle

Enchantment cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Self
  • Components: V ("It's a Festivus Miracle!")
  • Duration: Instantaneous

When you use the phrase "It's a Festivus Miracle!" just about anything ordinary that occurs seems to become special.

Dream of Snow

Transmutation cantrip

  • Casting Time: 10 minutes before going to sleep for the night
  • Range: 2 mile radius around self
  • Components: V, S, M (burn incense and bits of earth and wood mixed in water)
  • Duration: 1d8 hours

A light snow falls during the night. 1/8" of snow falls each hour the Duration is in effect.


Illusion cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Self
  • Components: S, M (a scrap of colorful paper)
  • Duration: Instantaneous

Rewraps a gift so that the recipient can give it to someone else. No guarantees it isn't returned to the original giver!

Twinkling Lights

Evocation cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: 120 feet
  • Components: V, S, M (a bit of phosphorus or wychwood, or a glow worm)
  • Duration: 1 night

You create firefly size lights that line up along the edges of any surface, covering 10 square feet per level of the caster. The light produces a pleasing glow, enough to see by, but no heat. The lights look particularly pretty if placed on buildings or trees. Twinkling Lights can be covered or hidden but not smothered or quenched.

Heavenly Choir

Transmutation cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: 30 feet
  • Components: V, S
  • Duration: 1 song, about 3-5 minutes

You motion towards one creature you can see within range, and the sound of melodic voices singing a popular carol fills the air around it for the duration. The singing can be heard for up to 120 feet.

Horse Whisper

Enchantment cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Self, whispered in a horse's ear
  • Components: V
  • Duration: Instantaneous

Over the river and through the woods, to the place the horse will go. The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh, through the white and drifted snow.

Magic Mistletoe

Conjuration cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Self, indoors
  • Components: S, M (kiss a mistletoe leaf)
  • Duration: 10 minutes

Conjures a sprig of mistletoe above the casters head. On a successful Charisma check, another consenting person will be persuaded to kiss the caster.

Pumpkin Spice

Transmutation cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Self
  • Components: M (a pinch of spice)
  • Duration: Until item spoils or in the case of fruit cake, forever!

Makes any food or drink taste like it is flavored with pumpkin spice.

Redeem Tree

Transmutation cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Target
  • Components: S, V ("It's not such a bad little tree.")
  • Duration: Remainder of holiday season

Transforms a scrawny, bare sapling into a nice looking, full and festive tree. The surprising transformation may make some declare, "It's a Festivus Miracle!"

En Pointe!

Enchantment cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: 2 feet
  • Components: S, V
  • Duration: 1 hour or once 1 shoe is thrown

Enchants a pair of shoes to allow the wearer to dance on their tiptoes. Note that 1 hour might not be enough to complete some ballets!

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a 2nd level spell slot, a shoe can become a ranged weapon that can be thrown up to 20ft. Thrown at a rat head, it requires you to make a ranged weapon attack to hit it. A targeted creature can make a Dexterity saving throw. On failure, rat head is knocked unconscious.


Enchantment cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: Self
  • Components: V ("Humbug!")
  • Duration: Instantaneous

Nullifies a single Cantrip of Festivus. After casting Humbug, the caster cannot cast any other Cantrip of Festivus except Humbug. If Holiday Cheer is cast by 3 different people on the same person, that person can no longer cast Humbug.
