Monastic Tradition - Storm Sentry

Calling the winds to fill sails of merchant vessels or summon gentle rains are commonplace for members of House Lyrandar, but those with the Mark of Storm can use their dragonmark to turn their powers in a more martial application. These are the Storm Sentries, colourful warriors who charge into the fray, unleashing powerful winds and crackling lightning. Often used as guards on Lyrandar vessels (be they of sea or sky), more than a few pirates have fallen prey when they found a Storm Sentry onboard their target of plunder.

Though many Storm Sentries find gainful with the house, a number of them feel the pull to go further, fly higher and strike out on their own, seeking ever changing experiences just as the wind sweeps the land.

In order to take this subclass, you must be a half-elf with a Mark of the Storm

Dragonmark Spells

At 3rd level you automatically learn the spells added to your spell list by your Spells of the Mark racial feature when you reach certain levels in this class as on the table below. In addition, you can use your dragonmark as an arcane focus for these spells, even if both your hands are occupied. You can cast each of your dragonmark spells once without expending a spell slot, refreshing on a long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability score.

Storm Strike

Storm Sentries weave together piercing strikes along with brawling fists. At 3rd level you gain proficiency with the rapier and scimitars, if you did not already have it.

In addition, once per turn when you deal either slashing/piercing or bludgeoning damage, you deal additional lightning or thunder damage respectively. You may only deal additional damage of one damage type in a turn, such that if you choose to do lightning damage, you cannot also deal thunder damage.

The additional damage is equal to your martial arts die.

Lyrandar's Fist

The force of your strikes holds the wind's very fury from 6th level. Once per turn when you hit with a flurry of blows attack, or when you spend 1 ki point on a successful unarmed strike, you can unleash a burst of wind. All creatures in a 60 foot long, 10 wide line must succeed on a strength saving throw or be pushed 15ft away from you. On a successful save, they are only pushed by 5ft. The blast of wind disperses gas or vapour, and it extinguishes unprotected flames. It has a 50% chance of extinguishing protected flames, such as lanterns.

Wind's Embrace

The wind cradles you as you fall. From 6th level Slow Fall now reduces fall damage by an amount of damage equal to 10 times your monk level. You also do not need to spend your Reaction to use it, instead it activates automatically whenever you might take fall damage. In addition, your jump distances are tripled.

Improved Storm Strike

Your powers over the storm improve. From 11th level you can now deal both lightning and thunder damage in the same turn from your Storm Strike feature, instead of choosing which to make use of. You may still only deal lightning damage on a slashing/piercing strike, and thunder damage on a bludgeoning strike.

Squallsharer

From 11th level you are able to share a portion of your power with others. At the end of a long rest you may touch a number of creatures equal to your proficiency bonus and grant them the Slow Fall monk feature, reducing fall damage taken by an amount equal to your monk level. They do not get the benefit of Wind's Embrace.

Mastered Storm Strike

From 17th level whenever you deal damage with your Storm Strike feature, the damage pulses out from your target, dealing the same damage to creatures you choose within a 10ft radius.

Step through the Storm

Your connection to weather patterns grants you the ability to walk through them as if untouched. From 17th level you may choose to be unaffected by any inclement weather including, but not limited to, rain, heavy winds, snowfall, hail, and more. If you are piloting a ship (including airships), you can extend this benefit to the entire vessel and its other occupants.
