Arcane Tradition - School of Familiar Advancement

To many wizards, familiars are little more than idle tools - no different to a magical item or assistant construct. Disposable, replacable, their cost little more than time and a pittance of gold. Some wizards however see the potential in what familiars can offer. By enhancing the link between caster and familiar, they boost its performance in a number of ways, allowing it to serve far more as a partner than a simple tool.

Bonded Soul

When you take this subclass at 2nd level you learn the Find Familiar spell if you didn't already know it. Your grasp of the intricacies of familiar summoning allow you to cast the spell without any material components. In addition, the familiar has additional HP equal to your wizard level plus your Intelligence modifier, and you can choose to share the effects of any spell cast on you with your familiar, so long as it's within 30' of you.

In addition, you can cast Find Familiar as an action, without expending a spell slot or material components. When cast in this manner, you must complete a short or long rest before being able to do so again.

Enhanced Summoning

Your grasp of familiar construction increases at 6th level. Your familiar adds your proficiency bonus to its armour class, and to any saving throws that you have proficiency in. It also gains advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects. It's intelligence score now equals half of your own (unless higher) and it learns one language that you speak.

Desparate Dispersion

You know better than most that a familiar can be quite flimsy even with your enhanced summoning techniques, and are easily put down by any focused efforts. At 10th level when your familiar takes damage that would reduce it to 0hp, you can use your reaction to have it blink out of existence to a pocket dimension, negating the damage. It reappears at the start of your next turn. You must complete a short or long rest before being able to do this again.

In addition, the range of your telepathic link with your familiar is unlimited, so long as it remains on the same plane of existence.

Linked Arcanum

By reaching 14th level your studies allow your familiar to fight alongside you in ways neverbefore thought possible. When you cast a spell of 1st level higher on your turn, you can use your bonus action to command your familiar to cast a cantrip that you know from your familiar's space. The cantrip uses your spell attack modifier or spell save DC, however any damage the cantrip may deal is reduced by half. If the cantrip requires Concentration, your familiar concentrates on this for you.
